Abstract

This research focuses on the traditional recitations in Hiang Karya Village, known as the “three-village traditional recitation” (Hiang Karya, Hiang Tinggi, and Hiang Sakti). These recitations are typically studied by ninik mamak (traditional elders), syarak officials, village heads, and village staff from the three villages. The recitations are recognized as mixed traditional recitations, passed down through generations. Within this tradition, ninik mamak, syarak officials, village heads, village staff, and datok (former ninik mamak) learn the traditional and religious values embedded within them. Additionally, Hiang is home to a special recitation for women, known as the BKMT recitation (Badan Kontak Majelis Taklim). Hiang hosts a variety of recitations, not only those related to tradition within the traditional recitations but also those with profound religious significance. This study found that these recitations play a vital role in the lives of the Hiang community, both in preserving traditional customs and in strengthening Islamic values that serve as their guiding principles.

Abstract

The number of adherents of traditional beliefs in Indonesia is approximately 12 million, spread across 27 provinces. However, despite this significant number, they have not yet been recognized by the state as equal to formal religions in the religion column on their Identity Cards (KTP). This study employs a descriptive-qualitative method based on a critical paradigm, using Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony as its analytical framework. The findings reveal that state hegemony began with the consensus to label traditional beliefs as "faith streams" through the Ministry of Religion in 1961. This was followed by political, ideological, and leadership hegemony through various discriminatory laws and regulations targeting those identified as adherents of traditional beliefs. The Constitutional Court's decision to allow the inclusion of “Belief in the Almighty God” in the religion column of the KTP represents a form of resistance to hegemony through intellectual movements.

Abstract

Each region has numerous historical sites developed as a form of cultural heritage preservation, including Indonesia, which is home to various ancient manuscripts. One of the most significant ancient manuscripts is the Kerinci Manuscript, written in the Incung script. The Incung script was used by the Kerinci people to document spells, customary laws, and other important records. However, this script has largely been forgotten by the younger generation of Kerinci. This study aims to explore the history, functions, and development of the Kerinci Incung script. The research employs a qualitative historical method through literature review. The findings reveal that the Incung script has a long history and diverse functions, ranging from serving as a medium for writing legal codes and historical records to oral literature. The script was inscribed on various media such as buffalo horns, bamboo, tree bark, and paper. Although it is less known today, efforts to preserve it are ongoing, including through education and cultural events. This study underscores the importance of the Incung script as a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and developed to enrich the cultural identity of the Kerinci community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the anti-Shia movement within the context of international and national geopolitics, emphasizing how sectarian issues are exploited as tools for political, ideological, and power mobilization. The research is based on the premise that the anti-Shia movement is not merely a theological conflict but also encompasses geopolitical dimensions that affect international relations and domestic stability in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection was conducted through literature studies, media analysis, and reviews of relevant documents from both primary and secondary sources. Social movement analysis was applied to understand the mobilization strategies of anti-Shia groups, while a geopolitical approach was used to evaluate the influence of international relations on the emergence of this movement in Indonesia. Furthermore, content analysis of publications in print, digital, and social media was conducted to explore the narratives and communication strategies of anti-Shia groups. The findings reveal that the anti-Shia movement is closely tied to the geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East, particularly the conflict between Sunni and Shia forces supported by state actors such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. In Indonesia, this issue has been adopted by certain groups as a political tool to bolster the dominance of specific ideologies, often leveraging religious sentiments. The study also found that media plays a critical role in amplifying anti-Shia narratives, thereby creating societal polarization. These findings underline that the anti-Shia movement cannot be understood in isolation but must be examined as part of a broader and more complex geopolitical dynamic.

Abstract

The demand for energy is increasing in this technological era. However, the supply of natural energy resources is decreasing. The establishment of Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) aims not only to meet the public's energy needs by utilizing batteries as a source of energy but also to contribute to Indonesia's economic development. This initiative serves as a catalyst for Indonesia in the development of battery energy. The purpose of this research is to examine the government's interest in enhancing Indonesia's economy through energy transition, using mercantilist economic theory to explain government intervention. The research method employed by the author is a qualitative method, utilizing secondary data from various sources such as journal articles, books, websites, and other sources. Data collection techniques involve literature study, and the data is then analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. The findings of this research indicate the importance of government intervention in the production process of batteries as energy sources for global electric vehicles, which can enhance Indonesia's economy and promote Indonesia's position as a strong country in the global electric vehicle battery production market.

Abstract

Learning guidance with memorization methods is an important form of guidance service that should be provided in educational institutions. Memorization means the activity of intentionally and earnestly remembering. Learning guidance through memorization focuses more on identifying difficulties in memorizing lesson material, which includes problems with recognition difficulty, recalling, and the ability to use old memories to recognize new ones. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research in the form of library research, which utilizes books and other literature related to the research theme. Based on the issues of difficulties in memorizing lesson material among students, this shows that if these problems are not immediately addressed, they will significantly affect the students’ learning achievement. Therefore, solutions to the problems related to difficulties in memorizing lesson material among students should be found to avoid poor academic performance. This aligns with the duties and roles of counselors in providing learning guidance and counseling through memorization methods.

Abstract

On June 5, 1967, Israel attacked and destroyed the air forces of Egypt, Syria, and Iraq, thereby crippling the Arab nations. This defeat is known as the Six-Day War or the June 1967 War. This loss also transformed Nizar Qabbani from a poet who wrote passionate love poems into a poet who wrote with a knife. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method based on a critical paradigm. The analytical tool employed is Teun A. Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis from three dimensions: text, social cognition, and social context. This study reveals that the poem “Hawamisy ala Daftar al-Naksah” textually narrates the condition of the Arab nations post-Arab-Israeli War, where history had changed, and they had been defeated by Israel. In terms of social cognition, Nizar wrote the poem out of the grief experienced by his people. In terms of social context, the poem was written based on the reality of the Arab nations’ defeat by Israel, which brought shame, disappointment, and despair to them. Particularly, it addresses the 50,000 new refugees, the leaders who could only engage in rhetoric, and the silencing of voices through his poems.

Abstract

Pesantren, as religious educational institutions, play a crucial role in shaping Muslim intellectuals. However, the emergence of the “santri punk” phenomenon within pesantren indicates a new dynamic that challenges the traditional religious image of these institutions. This study aims to explore the motives behind the construction of the santri punk identity at Pantura Lamongan pesantren and to analyze the influence of identity status in this process. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through individual life history methods and interviews, then examined through Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological theory and James Marcia’s identity status concept. The findings reveal that the formation of santri punk is influenced by “because motives,” such as shock culture, difficulties in social interaction, and cultural encounters, as well as “in order to motives,” including the pursuit of solidarity, social identity, and self-actualization. This process is reinforced by identity crises experienced by santri aged 16–18 years, with a tendency toward identity achievement and identity moratorium statuses. External factors such as globalization, advancements in information technology, and the cultural characteristics of the Pantura region further accelerate the access to and adoption of punk culture within pesantren environments. These findings demonstrate that the santri punk identity represents a form of cultural hybridity within the context of pesantren’s social transformation.

Abstract

This study focuses on the economic policy strategies implemented by Trump and their implications for economic reform in Indonesia, while also uncovering the multidimensional and complex interactions between foreign policy and its impact on the domestic economy. The purpose of this study is to understand the influence of Donald Trump's economic decisions on public behavior, as well as their suitability to policies in Indonesia. The data collection method was carried out using a qualitative approach, using literature studies and analysis of the applicable policy context. The data were analyzed through interdisciplinary nuances that include Public Choice Theory, Behavioral Economics, and Sustainable Economic Development, each of which provides thematic-impressive and case-impactful insights into the dynamics of policy and public response. Primary sources used in this study include academic reports, news articles, and analysis from experts in the field of political economy. The research findings prove that economic policies in the US can trigger sentiments and behavioral patterns that directly affect Indonesian society, especially in the context of dissatisfaction with local policies. The conclusion of this analysis boldly asserts that economic reform in Indonesia needs to capitalize on existing psychological and social factors. The novelty of this research is seen in the development of an analytical framework that links foreign economic policy with broader public responses, as well as the importance of public involvement in the decision-making process. Limitations of this research include the lack of specific quantitative data, and further research is recommended to explore the interaction between policies from other countries and their impacts on Indonesian society more holistically, both directly and indirectly.
