Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of an animation video–based story impressions learning strategy on students’ narrative text viewing skills in Grade VIII of SMP Negeri 15 Kota Sukabumi during the 2025/2026 academic year. The research was conducted in the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year at SMP Negeri 15 Kota Sukabumi. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students, with a total sample of 60 students divided into an experimental group of 29 students and a control group of 31 students. This study employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental design with a post-test only control design. The research instruments included a viewing skills test, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test. The results indicated that students in the experimental group demonstrated better narrative text viewing skills than those in the control group. The mean score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. The Mann–Whitney U test showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the animation video–based story impressions learning strategy has a significant effect on the narrative text viewing skills of Grade VIII students at SMPN 15 Kota Sukabumi.

Abstract

his study aims to examine the effect of implementing digital media through a podcast-based project on students’ speaking skills. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The participants were students from a selected educational institution who took part in speaking skills instruction through a podcast project. Data were collected using speaking skill tests administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically a paired-sample t-test. The results revealed an improvement in students’ speaking skills after the implementation of the podcast-based project. The mean score of the pretest was 77.64, which increased to 86.16 in the posttest, indicating a gain of 8.52 points. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores at a significance level of a = 0.05. These findings indicate that the use of digital media through podcast projects has a positive effect on enhancing students’ speaking skills. Therefore, podcast-based digital media can be considered an effective alternative for teaching speaking skills. Learning through podcast projects encourages active participation, creativity, and students’ confidence in expressing ideas orally, making the learning process more meaningful and relevant to digital-era education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the defense mechanisms of marginalized characters in the novel Sisi Tergelap Surga by Brian Khrisna. The research was conducted as a library study without a specific location, using primary data in the form of the novel’s text and secondary data from books, journals, and relevant scientific articles. The population of the study includes all marginalized characters in the novel, while the sample was determined through excerpts depicting defense mechanisms. The researcher acted as the research instrument, assisted by a data recording guide using the read-and-record technique. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results show that marginalized characters face social pressures, internal conflicts, and injustice by employing defense mechanisms such as repression, projection, rationalization, and displacement. Repression is shown through the suppression of feelings and experiences that cause anxiety, projection through the transfer of guilt and faults onto others, rationalization through logical justification of painful actions or conditions, and displacement through the venting of negative emotions toward safer targets. These defense mechanisms enable the characters to maintain psychological balance amid a life full of pressure, while also reflecting the social, economic, and structural impacts on the mental condition of marginalized groups. The findings contribute to the study of literary psychology, particularly regarding the representation of mental health among marginalized groups in contemporary Indonesian novels.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth description of the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in poetry writing instruction at the senior high school level, with a particular emphasis on the learning process and students’ literacy experiences. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted in a tenth-grade class at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Mojoagung. The participants consisted of 30 students and one Indonesian language teacher. Data were collected through participatory observation during the project implementation, in-depth interviews with students and the teacher, and documentation of poetry drafts and final products. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data display, and interpretative conclusion drawing, using source triangulation techniques to ensure the credibility of the findings. The findings indicate that the implementation of PjBL fostered a more dialogic, collaborative, and reflective poetry writing environment. The poetry anthology project encouraged students to explore themes contextually, develop diction and imagery creatively, and engage in iterative revisions through peer feedback. These experiences contributed to the development of aesthetic awareness and a sense of responsibility toward the quality of their work. Moreover, collaborative interactions throughout the project strengthened students’ intrinsic motivation, empathy, and confidence in expressing personal experiences through poetic language. Therefore, the implementation of PjBL not only improved the quality of students’ poetry texts but also shaped meaningful and contextual literacy experiences in senior high school literature instruction.

Abstract

Teacher-student interactions in negotiation text learning utilize language as the primary means of classroom management. This study aims to describe the forms of directive speech acts and politeness strategies used by teachers in Indonesian language learning in class X at SMK Negeri 3 Padang. This is a qualitative study using descriptive methods, aiming to deeply uncover the meaning and phenomena of speech in a natural, uncontrived context. The research data consisted of teacher utterances containing directive speech acts, such as commands, requests, prohibitions, invitations, and advice. These were obtained through non-participatory observation, audio-video recordings from the opening to the closing of the lesson, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data sources were the Indonesian language teachers of class X who were observed in several meetings. The researcher acted as the primary instrument, supported by recording devices and observation sheets. Data validity was ensured through data and source triangulation, member checking, and diligent observation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions repeatedly until credible findings were obtained. The results of the study show that the most dominant form of directive speech act is an order; direct strategies are used in situations that require assertiveness and efficiency, while indirect strategies are used to maintain politeness and create a conducive learning atmosphere, thus supporting the effectiveness of interactions and achieving the learning objectives of negotiation texts.

Abstract

This study analyzes the persuasive strategies used in the Sayang Hijab version of the Sayang detergent advertisement that uses Dr. Tirta as an expert endorser. This study was conducted to uncover the mechanism of medical authority construction and persuasive strategies used in the Sayang Hijab version of the Sayang detergent advertisement, which involves Dr. Tirta as an expert endorser. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model from Norman Fairclough’s theory. Norman Fairclough’s CDA theory has three dimensions: text analysis, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The results of this study indicate that in the text analysis, Dr. Tirta as an expert endorser in this advertisement uses medical language to create new standards of cleanliness and safety in the advertisement of detergent products. In this discourse practice, there is a synergy of authority between the emotional experience of consumers, as depicted by Ria Ricis & Moana, and the rational validation of medical experts, as depicted by Dr. Tirta. From a sociocultural perspective, this detergent advertisement reflects a shift in public mindset after the pandemic, where there is an increased reliance on expert judgment rather than domestic decisions. This study concludes that the use of laboratory settings and medical attributes is not only about the marketing appeal of an advertisement, but is more an attempt to reposition detergent from a household necessity to a preventive health instrument.

Abstract

Regional languages play an important role in maintaining cultural identity and politeness values in a multicultural society. However, the use of Javanese, particularly the krama variety, has shifted among the younger generation due to the dominance of Indonesian in various social domains, including educational settings. This situation poses challenges in efforts to maintain regional languages, especially at the elementary school level, which is the phase in which students' language habits are formed. This study aims to analyze the impact of a Javanese language familiarization program on improving elementary school students' mastery of krama vocabulary and politeness as part of a regional language preservation strategy. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included the principal, class teachers, and students at Pati Kidul 01 Public Elementary School. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and interactive conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the familiarization program, which is implemented routinely every Thursday, has an impact on increasing the use of krama vocabulary in formal communication in the classroom. Furthermore, there was an increase in students' politeness in terms of speech and attitude, demonstrated through the use of respectful expressions, more refined diction, and changes in nonverbal behavior in interactions with teachers. These findings imply that familiarizing yourself with Javanese can be an effective pedagogical strategy for strengthening communicative competence while supporting the ongoing maintenance of regional languages in formal educational settings.

Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the growing use of digital media and Japanese popular culture in Japanese language learning in the era of technological openness and globalization. The study aims to explore students’ experiences of integrating Japanese popular culture–based digital content in learning Japanese and to examine its contribution to communicative competence and intercultural awareness. Using a qualitative case study design, the study involved 40 third- and fifth-semester students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically. The findings show that the use of Japanese popular culture–based digital content supports students’ understanding of vocabulary, sentence structures, and appropriate expressions, increases speaking confidence, and enhances awareness of Japanese cultural values and communication norms. However, students’ interactive speaking skills and two-way communication ability remain limited, and difficulties in interpreting implicit meanings and applying politeness strategies persist. In conclusion, Japanese popular culture–based digital content is beneficial for developing linguistic awareness and intercultural understanding, but its effective impact on communicative competence requires pedagogical mediation, interaction-based tasks, and guided cultural reflection

Abstract

A song is a literary work that possesses poetic qualities and is combined with music. Arya Galih is a singer and songwriter recognized for his distinctive vocal character and his ability to arrange words aesthetically. This study aims to describe the combination of imagery and personification in the lyrics of Arya Galih’s songs. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The object of the study is the lyrics of five songs by Arya Galih: Kobaring Asmara, Lereng Gunung Lawu, Sarangan Nglarung Rasa, Magetan Sewu Kenangan, and Esemu Semangatku, with a focus on the integration of imagery and personification. Data collection techniques include reading, note-taking, and literature review. Reading and note-taking were conducted by carefully and repeatedly examining Arya Galih’s lyrics, then recording sentences that indicate the presence of imagery and personification. Literature review involved analyzing various relevant sources related to imagery and personification in song lyrics. Data analysis was conducted using the model proposed by Miles and Huberman, which includes three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data reduction involved selecting and filtering the relevant data, while data display was organized in the form of descriptive text, followed by drawing conclusions based on the presented data. The results of the study show that Arya Galih’s lyrics employ visual imagery, gustatory imagery, tactile imagery, and kinetic imagery. Among these, visual imagery appears most frequently. The study also indicates that the most prominent stylistic feature in his lyrics is the combination of imagery and personification. This combination enhances the poetic and expressive quality of his songs, allowing the lyrics to convey emotion and meaning vividly, while engaging listeners both intellectually and emotionally.
