Abstract

This study aims to describe: 1) the benefits of PowerPoint media in learning to write popular scientific articles; 2) the effectiveness of PowerPoint media in improving students' understanding of popular scientific articles; 3) the impact of using PowerPoint on students' interest and involvement in the learning process of writing popular scientific articles. The research activities were carried out in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year by applying a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were all eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 27 Medan. An Indonesian language teacher acted as the main informant. Research data were collected using two non-test instruments, namely simple observation guidelines and semi-structured interview guidelines. The observation guidelines were used for observation activities to obtain data on the use of PowerPoint media in learning to write popular scientific articles, data on the effectiveness of PowerPoint media in improving students' understanding of popular scientific articles, and data on the impact of using PowerPoint on students' interest and involvement in the learning process of writing popular scientific articles. Semi-structured interviews were used to obtain validation data for the observation guideline instrument. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings show: 1) PowerPoint media is useful because teachers can easily clarify the structure of popular scientific articles by visualizing elements such as titles, leads, body paragraphs, and conclusions systematically so that they are easily accepted by students; 2) PowerPoint media is effective in increasing students' understanding of popular scientific articles; 3) the use of PowerPoint has an impact on students' interest and involvement in the learning process of writing popular scientific articles.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Al Arabiya and CNBC Arabiya frame news reports on the United States-China trade negotiations using Robert Entman’s framing theory. The research focuses on news published in May and October 2025, with the study context referring to trade meetings held in Geneva, Switzerland. The population of the study comprises all news reports related to the US-China trade negotiations in both media outlets, while the sample consists of two main articles directly reporting on the Geneva negotiation rounds. The research instrument includes a structured news analysis guide based on the 5W+1H framework and Entman’s four framing elements: Define Problems, Diagnose Causes, Make Moral Judgement, and Treatment Recommendation. Data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative technique to identify issue selection, issue salience, and meaning construction within each media outlet. The findings show that Al Arabiya frames the negotiations from a bilateral and nationalistic standpoint, emphasizing political positioning and national interests. In contrast, CNBC Arabiya highlights the global economic implications of the trade war, stressing disruptions to supply chains, global market instability, and the involvement of third parties such as Switzerland and the WTO. These differences demonstrate that media framing significantly shapes public perceptions of international economic issues by selectively emphasizing certain facts and perspectives.

Abstract

This research is predicated on the urgency of the “fatherless” phenomenon in Indonesia and the scarcity of children’s literature that comprehensively represents paternal emotional involvement. This study aims to elucidate the representation of the father-child relationship in the picture book Ayahku Seorang Nelaya by Zunda. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method utilizing a Children’s Literature criticism approach (Peter Hunt’s perspective), integrated with multimodal discourse analysis for visual elements and hermeneutics for textual elements. The findings demonstrate that the father figure is represented in a multidimensional and egalitarian manner. The findings include: (1) a high level of paternal involvement in the domestic sphere; (2) a relationship quality characterized by democratic interaction, communicative engagement, and emotional warmth; (3) parenting and education implemented through role modeling in daily activities integrated with nature; and (4) paternal roles and responsibilities that function not only as a breadwinner but are also fully engaged in fulfilling the child’s psychological and developmental needs. The conclusion asserts that this work presents an ideological construction offering a counter-narrative to the issue of father absence, rendering it relevant as an educational medium for the internalization of fatherhood values within the family.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze genetic structuralism in the novel Egosentris by Syahid Muhammad by focusing on structural elements, human facts, and the author’s worldview. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with the novel Egosentris serving as the primary data source. The research population consists of the entire content of the novel, while the sample comprises selected textual excerpts relevant to the genetic structuralism approach. The data are in the form of quotations that represent structural elements, human facts, and the author’s worldview, which were collected through intensive reading and systematic note-taking techniques. The researcher acts as the main research instrument, supported by data classification tables. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis by relating the structure of the literary work to its social context, the author’s background, and the worldview underlying the creation of the novel. The results indicate that 67 relevant excerpts were identified, consisting of 60 excerpts related to structural elements such as theme, plot, characters and characterization, setting, point of view, and moral values that dominate the narrative development, 3 excerpts reflecting human facts in the form of psychological conflicts, social relations, and social pressures experienced by the characters, and 4 excerpts representing the author’s worldview that convey criticism of egocentric attitudes, a lack of empathy, and the search for personal identity in social life. These findings confirm that the novel Egosentris demonstrates a close relationship between literary structure and the author’s social reality as examined through the genetic structuralism approach.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the personality structure of the main character Arissa in the film Dunia Tanpa Suara by Hanung Bramantyo using Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory which includes the aspects of id, ego, and superego. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a literary psychology approach. The instrument in this study is the researcher herself who acts as the planner, implementer, data collector, and data analyzer of the research. The data collection technique in this study is the observation and note-taking technique which is carried out repeatedly to obtain data relevant to the focus of the study. The data analysis technique in this study is carried out by systematic data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions based on the theoretical concepts used. The results of the study show that (1) the id aspect is seen through Arissa’s instinctive urge to fulfill needs, vent emotions spontaneously, and avoid discomfort without much consideration; (2) the ego aspect is seen when Arissa considers reality before acting, adapts to social situations, and makes logical decisions based on real conditions; and (3) the superego aspect is reflected in Arissa’s attitude of adhering to moral values, showing guilt after violating norms, and refusing to carry out actions that are contrary to ethics even though they can benefit her. The findings of this study indicate that the personality structure of the main character is formed through the interaction between instinctive drives, real conditions, and moral control.

Abstract

This study tested the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in teaching writing fiction review texts. This study took place in the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year using a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test single group design in class XI SMKN 3 Padang. The population of this study were students of class XI TKJ 2 who participated in learning activities to write fiction reviews before using the PjBL model and who participated in learning to write fiction reviews after using the PjBL model and submitted fiction review writing tests in each learning activity. They numbered 34 students. The sample was determined to be 32 students based on a statistical formula developed by Slavin. Data on writing fiction reviews were collected using a test for work on one of two short story texts provided. The test was compiled using a systematic and objective procedure using eleven indicators. The answer sheet was scored using a scoring rubric involving eleven indicators containing 80 maximum scores and 0 minimum scores. A checklist was used to internally validate the scoring results and the results of the data analysis. The research data were analyzed using parametric inferential statistical procedures, namely a one-sample t-test for each test result and a paired sample t-test to determine the effectiveness of the PjBL model in learning to write reviews of fictional works. The results of the study: 1) the results of learning to write fictional work review texts before using the PjBL model were in the low category; 2) the results of learning to write fictional work review texts after using the PjBL model were in the high category; 3) the PjBL model was effective for use in learning to write fictional work reviews in class XI of SMKN 3 Padang.
