Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of the teacher’s role in integrating literacy into the learning process through the Learning Stage of the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah/GLS) in elementary schools. The study aims to describe the level of teachers’ readiness to implement GLS at the learning stage based on demographic variables, namely gender, educational level, length of teaching experience, and certification status. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving 180 teachers from 11 elementary schools in the Lancang Kuning Cluster, selected using proportional random sampling. The research instrument was a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 42 statements that had been tested and proven valid (r > 0.312) and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.987). The results indicate that overall teacher readiness falls within the high category, with mean scores ranging from 3.72 to 3.96. Demographic analysis also shows consistent results. Female teachers have a mean score of 3.82, while male teachers score 3.56. Teachers holding a master’s degree (S2) show the highest mean score of 4.25, whereas those with a bachelor’s degree (S1) have a mean of 3.76. Groups based on length of teaching experience obtain mean scores ranging from 3.72 to 3.85. Certified teachers have a mean score of 3.80, while non-certified teachers score 3.75. These findings indicate that teachers demonstrate strong readiness in planning, applying methods, implementing strategies, and evaluating literacy activities at the GLS learning stage.

Abstract

The results of this study indicate that the Ecobites Pimnas-37 booklet, developed as an English learning medium, was systematically designed to support vocational high school students in improving their descriptive writing skills. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method based on the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. In the analysis stage, students’ needs and difficulties in writing descriptive texts were identified, particularly in organizing ideas, using appropriate vocabulary, and constructing grammatically correct sentences. The design stage focused on determining learning objectives, writing indicators, and the booklet structure. The development stage involved producing the Ecobites Pimnas-37 booklet by integrating English for Specific Purposes (ESP) principles with an eco-based learning approach. The implementation stage involved applying the booklet in classroom learning activities to facilitate students’ practice in writing descriptive texts. Students’ writing performance was measured using several indicators, including the ability to identify the generic structure of descriptive texts (identification and description), use appropriate vocabulary, apply simple present tense correctly, and develop clear and coherent descriptions of objects related to environmental topics. The evaluation stage was conducted through expert validation and feedback to assess the quality and feasibility of the booklet as an instructional medium. The validation results showed that the Ecobites Pimnas-37 booklet was categorized as very good and suitable for use in English learning. Overall, the booklet demonstrates strong potential as a valid and practical medium for teaching descriptive writing in vocational high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the process of revitalizing regional languages and analyze the results of implementing these activities through read-aloud activities, especially at the elementary school level in Bangka. This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the threat of regional language extinction in daily activities. Regional languages are one of the cultural identities that are characteristic of a region. The active role of a community's culture is directly proportional to the enthusiasm and pride of the community in using their regional language. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative conducted naturally on natural objects. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers, questionnaires with students, and documentation of classroom activities. This study obtained findings in the form of an overview and process of implementing storytelling through the read-aloud method using children's storybooks in the Bangka regional language. Data analysis shows that the read-aloud method functions as an introduction in the cognitive process that makes it easier for students to understand regional languages. Based on this explanation, it can be concluded that revitalizing regional languages through read-aloud storytelling activities is effective in rekindling interest in the habit of daily conversation in formal and non-formal settings using regional languages. Furthermore, it is recommended that schools integrate this research method into the local content curriculum which will have an impact as a solution so that regional languages in formal and non-formal environments do not experience the phenomenon of extinction.

Abstract

This study presents an analysis of the implementation of differentiated learning in Indonesian Language courses at the university level. The main focus of the study is to uncover lecturers’ operational strategies in accommodating the diversity of student learning styles. Through a qualitative research design with a descriptive case study approach, this study involved 28 students as subjects. Data were collected through triangulation methods, namely a comprehensive diagnostic assessment, participant observation, in depth interviews with lecturers and students, and analysis of Semester Learning Plan (RPS) documents. The results of the diagnostic assessment empirically mapped the learning style profiles of the 28 students into three main neuro-cognitive preferences: visual dominance (13 students), auditory (8 students), and kinesthetic (7 students). The research findings indicate that the implementation of differentiated learning was executed systematically through three essential instructional dimensions. In the content differentiation dimension, lecturers adjusted the format of teaching materials to be multimodal (interactive digital text, infographics, podcasts, and short videos). In the process differentiation dimension, the orchestration of the Project Based Learning and Flipped Classroom models was applied. In the differentiation dimension, students are given autonomy to produce assignment outputs in the form of academic essays, literary appreciation, or observational videos/vlogs. This strategy has been empirically proven to increase students’ academic engagement, intrinsic learning motivation, and comprehensive understanding of language materials, while also deconstructing the historical stigma that Indonesian language courses are monotonous and dogmatic. Further discussion of this study highlights that the effectiveness of the differentiation strategy highly dependent on the pedagogical competence of lecturers as curriculum designers, facilitators, and innovators, even though in practice they are faced with the challenges of high administrative burdens and time constraints.

Abstract

The Minangkabau language is unique, having 19 consonant phonemes in the vocabulary used in daily communication. The existence of phonemes indirectly affects the meaning and shift of the original sound. This is due to the reduction of consonant phonemes when young Minangkabau speakers tend to absorb the consonant system of Indonesian or their local environmental language, rather than Minangkabau. Thus, this study aims to: 1) describe the phonetic reality of Minangkabau plosive consonants in Bengkulu City and 2) describe the phonetic reality of Minangkabau fricative consonants in Bengkulu City. The research method used is qualitative descriptive. The research data was in the form of native Minang speech in Bengkulu City with 50 samples based on 4 criteria: age > 60 years, 50-60 years, 25-50 years and < 24 years. Data collection techniques are in the form of interviews and recordings as well as documentation. The results of this study were obtained 6 plosive consonant phonemes, namely: p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, and /g/ and 3 fricative consonant phonemes, namely: phonemes /s/, /h/ and /f/ in the daily speech of the Minangkabau people which have similarities with the structure of the Malay language. The conclusion of this study is that the plosive consonants and fricative consonants of the Minangkabau language have been proven to appear productively in various word positions, with the phonological structure of Minangkabau still functioning consistently in daily speech practice. Illustrating that the Minangkabau community in Bengkulu City still maintains its strong phonological identity and pronunciation system with a relative, stable, conservative and consistent sound system.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the representation of moral values in Mahmoud Darwish's poem Fii Bayti Ummī Sūratī Tarnū Ilayya. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The formal object of this study is Michael Riffaterre's semiotic theory, while the material object is the poem itself. The analysis was conducted through heuristic and hermeneutic reading and hypogram tracing to reveal the literal, symbolic, and intertextual meanings in the poem. The results show that this poem represents an inner dialogue between the poet and his past self as a reflection on identity and change. Symbols such as self-image, walls, and heavenly gardens contain moral values in the form of honesty towards oneself, existential awareness, and moral responsibility in facing the dynamics of life. This study concludes that Mahmoud Darwish's poetry not only displays the beauty of language but also contains relevant moral messages, especially regarding the importance of self-reflection and the search for truth in the midst of changing times. Keywords: Moral, Poem, Michael Riffaterre's
