Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving skills are essential for all students so that they can learn to adapt their approach to more complex problems. However, students still have a modest level of this talent. Applying an open-ended approach in learning is one of the solutions. This study sought to compare the effectiveness of conventional open-ended approach in improving such ability in class XI FASE F SMA Negeri 1 Bonjol. Using Non-Equivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design as its research framework, this study utilizes a semi-experimental approach. Better skill improvement compared to conventional learning is the result of the open-ended method, according to data analysis. Keywords – Open-Ended, Conventional Learning, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Abstract

Achieving learning objectives characterises good learning outcomes. Grade VII students at SMPN 1 Sungai Beremas still performed poorly in the first summative assessment in the 2023/2024 academic year.  This study aims to compare and contrast the conventional model with the Student Team Achievemen Division (STAD) type cooperative learning model to determine whether the STAD model produces more optimal results for grade VII at SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Beremas. This study was a pseudo-experiment, and the control group was designed using a non-equivalent posttest. The basic random sample procedure was used for sampling. Learning outcome test was used in the instrument. With a p-value = 0.000, H0 was rejected. Therefore, in grade seven at SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Beremas, students who used the STAD model to learn mathematics outperformed their counterparts who used the conventional model. Keywords– STAD, Learning outcomes, Conventional learning

Abstract

Improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts is one of the main goals of education. This is the case in class XI at SMAN 1 Lintau Buo which still has low scores, which is most likely due to the fact that the learning model used is less varied. Therefore, class XI F5 was used as the experimental group and used cooperative learning approach based on Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) paradigm, while class XI F3 used conventional model. This research is a quasi-experimental with posttest-only control group. Random selection of students from class XI at SMAN 1 Lintau Buo was used to make the research population (random sampling). Data analysis showed a P-value =0.004, which means the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Based on this result, it appears that the TSTS model outperforms the conventional model approach. Keywords– Cooperative learning model, Two Stay Two Stray, Understanding Mathematical Concept.

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is necessary to hone other skills. In reality, that understanding is still very lacking. The results of the first test given to the students of class XE at SMAN 1 Sungai Limau in the 2023/2024 academic year support this. One approach to better understand this is by implementing the cooperative learning model Think Pair Share. (TPS). The type of research is quasi-experimental. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. Higher conceptual understanding is shown in students who learn with TPS compared to students who use the conventional approach (P-Value = 0.000 < α = 0.05).Keywords. – Understanding of Mathematical Concept, Think Pair Share

Abstract

One of the most valuable skills is the ability to solve problems. However, initial assessments and classroom observations showed that students in grade X at SMA Negeri 9 Padang had low levels of this ability. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach was used in an attempt to hone this skill. Learners' progress in this area was detailed, and compared with learners using the direct learning approach and PBL methodology. The study was descriptive in nature and was conducted as a quasi-experiment. Sampling was done randomly. Two classes, X 8 and X 7, were used as samples. Non-Equivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design was the research design used in this study. The PBL methodology improved all measures of problem-solving ability, as indicated by the quiz and final test results. The results showed that problem-based learning (PBL) was more effective than direct learningKeywords– Problem Based Learning, Direct learning, Mathematical Problem Solving Abilities

Abstract

Good learning outcomes are the aim of mathematical education. Level IX MTsN 1 Padangsidimpuan TP. 2024/2025 students are only one example of how this goal is frequently discovered to be achieved in the other way. One possible approach is a cooperative learning strategy known as Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS). This study verifies that the model can outperform more traditional methods of instruction in terms of learning results. The Non-equivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design was the quasi-experimental method utilized. The study's sample population consists of students enrolled in TP 2024/2025's ninth grade at MTsN 1 Padangsidimpuan. Using Simple Random Sampling, the sample groups were chosen from classes IX-2 and IX-8. The rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) is indicated by a result of P-value = 0.001 below α, suggesting that the TSTS model outperforms conventional learning in terms of learning outcomes.Keywords- Two Stay Two Stray Type Cooperative Learning Model, Learning Outcomes.

Abstract

The first goal of learning mathematics is concept understanding. However, the initial test results indicated that in the number pattern material of class VIII SMP Negeri 7 Padang 2023/2024, students' concept understanding was still relatively low.  The purpose of this research is to find out whether students who use the Discovery Learning model get better results than those who use conventional learning models and to evaluate how students develop during the learning process. This study used quasi-experimental and descriptive research and used a static group design. Class IX of SMP Negeri 7 Padang was the population studied. Quiz and test results showed that the Discovery Learning model was able to improve all indicators observed. Hypothesis testing showed rejection of  due to P-value < α. This result indicates that the application of the Discovery Learning model is more effective than the conventional learning model. Keywords– Discovery Learning, mathematical concept understanding

Abstract

A strong understanding of math problem solving skills is essential for students to develop thinking skills in a variety of real-life situations. Lack of student engagement in class made this ability very low in SMPN 1 Ampek Angkek VIII class. A Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, which utilizes the interactive features of PowerPoint, was used to address this problem. The purpose of this study is to find out in detail how mathematical problem solving skills improve after using PBL using PowerPoint interactive media. The secondary objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of traditional learning model with PBL approach using PowerPoint as interactive media. This study used a descriptive posttest-only control group design, which is a form of quasi-experiment. We can reject H0 because the resulting P-value is 0.005, which is less than the significance threshold of 0.005, when we use a real level of 0.05. There is evidence of skill growth using the PBL model assisted by Powerpoint interactive media, and the results show that the PBL class outperformed the standard class. Keywords– Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Problem Based Learning, Conventional Learning

Abstract

To help students become better problem solvers in mathematics, teachers can apply the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model. The objectives of this study were (1) to characterise the development of students' abilities after using the CPS model and (2) to determine whether their abilities were better after using the CPS model than the direct learning model. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group with a posttest-only control group. Students using the CPS model outperformed the direct learning method in the skills highlighted in this study.Keywords. –Mathematical Problem-Solving Abilities, Creative Problem Solving, Direct Learning

Abstract

Learners are expected to have problem-solving skills in mathematics as one of the crucial things. However, in reality this ability is still low among school-aged individuals. Using the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) paradigm is a model to address this issue. The purpose of the study was to identify, evaluate, and characterize these abilities in class VIII of SMPN 3 Batusangkar whose learning used the CPS model more than the traditional model. The research design was a pseudo-experiment with a control group that only received a post-test. Students from SMPN 3 Batusangkar in grade eight became the population of this study. We used a basic random sampling strategy to collect the sample. The null hypothesis was rejected because the test data analysis resulted in a P-value = 0.00. This indicates that the eighth grade students at SMPN 3 Batusangkar who learned using CPS were superior to the conventional method in solving problems.
