Abstract

This study aims to examine how the implementation of Personal-Social Guidance and Counseling can improve the social adjustment of migrant students from Medan in the Minangkabau cultural environment. The research employs a qualitative approach with interviews and observation methods involving a subject identified as SS. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations to identify patterns of communication barriers and the adjustment process experienced by the subject. The intervention applied used a Personal-Social Guidance and Counseling approach based on Alfred Adler’s theory to help the subject develop their social adjustment abilities. The results indicate that the problems experienced by SS are closely related to the process of adjusting to a new cultural environment, differences in communication styles, and the need to be accepted within the social environment. These conditions led to feelings of inferiority, overthinking, and withdrawal behavior that affected SS’s emotional and social well-being. Through the KOPSIN approach grounded in Alfred Adler’s theory, the counseling process helped SS understand themselves, change negative thought patterns, and develop social adjustment skills, thereby improving self-confidence and interpersonal relationships. The findings affirm that the implementation of Personal-Social Guidance and Counseling, oriented toward strengthening social interest and social courage, effectively facilitates the adjustment of migrant students in the Minangkabau cultural environment without compromising their original cultural identity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the application of cross-cultural counseling improves the social adjustment of migrant students from West Java in the Minangkabau school cultural environment. The study uses a qualitative approach with interview and observation methods on the research subject, a student with the initials R.D.A, 18 years old, studying at SMA N 1 X Koto. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations to identify patterns of communication barriers and the adjustment process experienced by the subject. The intervention applied used a cross-cultural counseling approach that considers the differences in culture, language, values, customs, and habits of the counselee. The results show that the problems experienced by R.D.A are closely related to differences in language, accent, communication style, and ways of expressing emotions that affect the counselee’s ability to adapt to the social and school environment. This condition leads to low self-confidence, difficulty in social interaction, and barriers in communicating with the surrounding environment. Through the cross-cultural counseling approach, the counseling process helps R.D.A understand that cultural differences are not a weakness but part of self-identity that should be respected, as well as developing communication skills, self-adjustment, and self-confidence in the new social environment. The findings affirm that the application of cross-cultural counseling based on empathy, tolerance, openness, and cultural awareness effectively facilitates the adjustment of migrant students in a culturally diverse school environment without sacrificing their original cultural identity.

Abstract

Indonesia is a multicultural country characterized by diversity in culture, language, and social communication patterns. Cultural differences in higher education settings often create communication barriers and adjustment difficulties for students from other regions. This study aims to examine the dynamics of cross-cultural counseling for Malay students in a Minangkabau cultural environment and to understand the forms of communication barriers and social adaptation processes experienced by these students. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research subject is a Malay student pursuing education in a Minangkabau cultural environment. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, while data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that students face communication barriers due to differences in language, communication styles, and social customs, leading to feelings of awkwardness, shyness, and low self-confidence. Cross-cultural counseling helps students improve their interpersonal communication skills, understand cultural differences positively, and strengthen their social adaptation skills through empathy techniques, role-playing, and cultural psychoeducation. In conclusion, cross-cultural counseling plays a crucial role in helping students build harmonious social relationships in a multicultural environment.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh isu perlindungan data pribadi yang menjadi sangat krusial di era digital, terutama setelah disahkannya Undang-Undang Nomor 27 Tahun 2022 tentang Pelindungan Data Pribadi (UU PDP). Regulasi ini membawa tantangan besar bagi lembaga kearsipan karena arsip modern kini banyak memuat data sensitif seperti riwayat medis, nomor identitas, dan informasi keuangan yang memerlukan protokol pengamanan khusus. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tantangan nyata yang dihadapi pengelola arsip pasca UU PDP serta merumuskan solusi praktis yang dapat diterapkan secara efektif di berbagai instansi. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, yang mengumpulkan informasi dari literatur ilmiah, regulasi, serta laporan kasus kebocoran data untuk membedah fenomena secara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan empat tantangan utama: belum adanya pedoman teknis baku mengenai prosedur pemusnahan arsip data pribadi, rendahnya pemahaman petugas kearsipan dan HRD terhadap kewajiban hukum baru, keterbatasan anggaran untuk sarana pemusnahan seperti mesin penghancur kertas, serta belum adanya kebijakan internal yang mengatur siklus hidup arsip secara spesifik. Selain itu, ditemukan kesenjangan antara kewajiban menghapus data demi privasi dengan kewajiban menyimpan dokumen demi kepentingan sejarah (nasional). Kasus kebocoran data yang terus berulang di berbagai institusi menunjukkan bahwa sistem keamanan saat ini masih sangat rapuh terhadap ancaman siber maupun kelalaian fisik. Sebagai solusi, pengelola arsip harus segera menyusun kebijakan internal yang adaptif, mengadakan pelatihan rutin bagi staf, serta menerapkan sistem keamanan berlapis untuk memitigasi risiko. Rekomendasi penelitian ini menekankan perlunya pengawasan ketat dari lembaga independen serta penerapan sanksi administratif dan pidana bagi instansi yang terbukti lalai dalam menjaga keamanan data pribadi masyarakat demi tegaknya kedaulatan data. Abstract

College students have various academic and social responsibilities that require good time management skills to maintain a balance between their academic, organizational, and social lives. However, many students still struggle with time management, leading to academic procrastination, late assignment submissions, and low self-discipline. This study aims to determine the importance of student time management from a cross-cultural counseling perspective and to understand the factors influencing poor time management among students. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study of a student identified as DV who struggles to balance time between classes, organizations, and social activities. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that poor time management is influenced by procrastination habits, the influence of the social environment, and a collective culture that emphasizes togetherness. A behavioral counseling approach using self-management techniques helped the client improve self-discipline and the ability to set priorities. Thus, good time management is crucial in supporting students’ academic success and social balance.

Abstract

Migrant students often face difficulties adjusting to new social environments, particularly in managing personal finances. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cross-cultural counseling based on the Transactional Analysis (TA) approach in addressing financial management problems among migrant students with a Melayu Riau cultural background. The method used is a Single Case Experimental Design (SCED) with an A-B design, where phase A represents the baseline condition prior to intervention and phase B represents the counseling intervention phase. The research subject is one student with the initials DD, aged 19 years, from Taluak Kuantan, Riau. Data were collected through pre-intervention assessment interviews, behavioral observation during counseling sessions, and post-intervention follow-up interviews. Behavioral analysis was conducted using the Behavioral Pattern (PTL) framework comprising Pancadaya, Likuladu, and Masidu components. Results show positive behavioral changes following the intervention: the client was able to manage finances more systematically, understood financial priorities, and maintained an active social life without compromising financial stability. These findings indicate that TA-based cross-cultural counseling is effective in enhancing self-control and financial awareness among migrant students.

Abstract

Perkembangan pesat sektor e-commerce di Indonesia mendorong para pengembang aplikasi untuk berlomba dalam meningkatkan konversi transaksi, namun hal ini sering kali dibarengi dengan praktik desain manipulatif yang dikenal sebagai Dark Pattern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi antarmuka aplikasi Tokopedia guna mengidentifikasi elemen desain yang melanggar etika profesi teknologi informasi dan prinsip kenyamanan pengguna. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Heuristic Evaluation berdasarkan 10 prinsip Jakob Nielsen melalui observasi langsung pada alur transaksi aplikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya beberapa jenis Dark Pattern yang signifikan, yaitu Sneak into Basket pada fitur proteksi tambahan, Confirmshaming pada dialog pembatalan transaksi, Artificial Scarcity melalui penghitung waktu mundur, dan Forced Cross-selling melalui interupsi layar. Temuan ini mengindikasikan pelanggaran terhadap prinsip User Control and Freedom, Error Prevention, dan Aesthetic and Minimalist Design. Kesimpulannya, meskipun memiliki fungsionalitas tinggi, antarmuka Tokopedia masih menerapkan strategi desain yang dapat merugikan otonomi pengguna. Artikel ini memberikan kontribusi berupa rekomendasi bagi desainer UI/UX untuk memprioritaskan etika profesional di atas manipulasi perilaku demi menciptakan ekosistem digital yang lebih transparan dan inklusif bagi konsumen.

Abstract

This This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cross-cultural counseling in addressing assertiveness difficulties in subject SH within the Javanese cultural context. The research employed an experimental approach using assertive training as the analytical technique to enhance the subject’s assertiveness skills. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with SH, a student from a Javanese cultural background who exhibited a pattern of being overly accommodating. The findings indicate that the overly accommodating behavior experienced by SH cannot be separated from Javanese cultural values such as politeness, unggah-ungguh, tepa selira, and the maintenance of social harmony. These values, which initially functioned as positive internalization, became maladaptive when practiced excessively, causing SH to have difficulty refusing requests, setting personal boundaries, and becoming vulnerable to stress, fatigue, and emotional strain. The social environment, which tended to rely on SH, further reinforced this behavioral pattern. The cross-cultural counseling intervention applied integrated assertiveness training and cognitive restructuring while respecting Javanese cultural norms. The findings show that cross-cultural counseling helped SH understand that cultural values can be upheld without compromising personal well-being. The counselor’s multicultural competence was a determining factor in adapting intervention strategies to align with the client’s sociocultural context. Based on these results, the effectiveness of cross-cultural counseling is determined by the counselor’s cultural awareness, orientation toward diversity, and the selection of relevant techniques such as assertive training. Recommendations for SH include gradual assertiveness practice, establishing personal boundaries, emotional regulation, and daily reflection to achieve a balance between maintaining social relationships and psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cross-cultural counseling in addressing adjustment difficulties in subject NA within the context of Malay and Minangkabau cultures. The study uses a single-subject experimental approach with cognitive restructuring intervention and assertive communication training based on the behavioral approach to improve the subject’s social adaptation skills. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with NA, a second-semester student at UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi who comes from Riau with a Malay cultural background. The results show that NA’s adjustment difficulties cannot be separated from the differences in language and communication patterns between Malay and Minangkabau cultures in the boarding house environment. The use of the Minangkabau language by roommates that NA did not understand created communication barriers, confusion, anxiety, and overthinking. Misunderstandings regarding the cleaning schedule and the accusation of taking a friend’s lipstick further strengthened NA’s feelings of being distrusted, less accepted, and tending to withdraw from the social environment. The cross-cultural counseling intervention applied integrated humanistic, cognitive, and behavioral approaches while still respecting the differences between Malay and Minangkabau cultures. The findings show that cross-cultural counseling helped NA understand that the use of the local language by roommates was a communication habit, not an attempt to mock her. Through cognitive restructuring, NA was able to replace negative thoughts with more rational ones, while assertive communication training helped NA express feelings and reduce withdrawal behavior. Based on these results, the effectiveness of cross-cultural counseling is determined by the counselor’s cultural awareness, openness to diversity, and the selection of relevant techniques such as cognitive restructuring and assertive communication training. Recommendations for NA include practicing positive thinking, gradual assertive communication, independent emotion monitoring, and periodic evaluation to achieve better adaptation in a multicultural environment.

Abstract

Academic stress among senior undergraduates is a common problem resulting from the demands of completing a thesis, academic pressure, and uncertainty about the future. These conditions can affect students’ mental health, motivation to learn, and academic success. This study aims to determine the influence of emotional regulation and perceptions of social support on the academic stress of students currently writing their theses. The research method employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. The sample consisted of 197 active undergraduate students currently working on their theses, selected using accidental sampling. Data collection was conducted via Google Forms using the Student-life Stress Inventory (SIS), the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Data analysis used multiple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics 22. The results showed that emotion regulation did not have a significant effect on academic stress with a significance value of 0.924, while perceived social support had a significant effect with a significance value of 0.008. Simultaneously, both variables contributed 3.6% to students’ academic stress. In conclusion, social support plays a more important role in reducing academic stress among senior students compared to emotional regulation.
