Abstract

This study investigated forensic investigation and fraud control in Nigerian deposit money banks (DMBs). An organized questionnaire was utilized to collect the necessary data from the respondents for the study, which used a descriptive survey methodology. Key staff of the deposit money banks in the Nigerian states of Lagos and Ogun made up the population. The research revealed that fraud control was significantly impacted by forensic fraud investigation. The study concluded that forensic investigation enhanced the control of fraud in the deposit money banks in Nigeria. In order to combat fraud, the study suggested that DMBs should strengthen their forensic investigation practices. This could be accomplished by routinely and consistently doing forensic audits of financial documents. DMBs should also make sure that any staff members engaging in fraud were promptly investigated and prosecuted

Abstract

This study focuses on the activities of Oloso, that is, prostitutes or commercial sex workers in Alimoso area of Lagos State, Nigeria. The research aims to investigate the classification of oloso, and their mode of operation. It also discussed the sociological factors that influenced ladies and women into oloso and the patterns and trends of behavioural changes among them as well as health implications associated with such trade. Indeed, oloso is among the major social problems in Nigeria and other countries of the world due to its moral and health implications. In all Twenty Five (25) informants were selected through purposive sampling technique. The informants include individuals that were willing to answer the research questions from personal experiences. The findings of the research revealed the various classes of oloso, their mode of operation, sociocultural factors, common behaviourial traits and health implications that are common to them. Peer pressure, poverty, parental negligence and high libido are among the notable factors that influenced ladies and young women to indulge in such practices. From the foregoing, it is recommended that the government, corporate and religious organisations among others should embark on aggressive programmes such as comprehensive sex education, economic empowerment programs, parental and community engagement, mental health support services, health services and safe practices education, social media monitoring and regulation, support networks and rehabilitation and strengthening legal framework and law enforcement. Also, the government should enact and enforce laws that regulate the conduct of olosos. This will help to sanitise and regulate the trade, especially the high rate of girl-child/under age prostitution in the country

Abstract

This is a study of female power within the divinatory literature and ritual action of Ifa among the Yoruba people. The essay investigates the dialectics of the feminine between the reified textual domain of Ifa literature and the practical experiences of women in selected Ifa communities in the Yoruba towns of Ibadan, Akure, Oshogbo, Oyo, Badagry, Abeokuta, Epe and Ife. Through a focus on the agency of female diviners, Iyanifa, as dramatized in Ifa literature and as demonstrated in the actual practice of Ifa in the communities in question, this essay explores a segment of the manner in which Yorubaland navigates issues of female empowerment within the gender dynamics that shape Yoruba culture. The study used a participant observation method that spanned a decade, which allowed the researcher in observing and joining the activities of the Iyanifa and women Ifa adherents during worships and rituals. Practice and Discourse as propounded by Lila Abu-Lughod was used in drawing the differences and similarities in theory and practice of Ifa. The findings are significant to the ongoing discourses in gender constructions and reconstructions, identity issues, Yoruba spiritualties and decolonization. It is also important for Diaspora Ifa communities because it provides frameworks valuable for mapping the manner in which these communities address gender issues as they draw upon a template of religious textualisation and practical action emanating from a culture different from the Diaspora contexts in which these adaptations are taking place

Abstract

This study explores the tension between social conformity and individual freedom in John Arden’s Live Like Pigs (1958). The play critiques rigid social structures in post-war Britain. It highlights society’s resistance to those who challenge conventional norms. The purpose of this research is to examine how Arden dramatizes the conflict between authority and personal autonomy. The focus is on the Sawney family. Their nomadic lifestyle and rejection of middle-class values put them at odds with mainstream society. Arden questions whether individuals can exercise true freedom in a system that enforces uniformity. This study uses a close reading of the play’s text. It analyses themes, character interactions, and dramatic techniques. Secondary literature provides context on Arden’s political and theatrical influences. The study examines how dialogue, setting, and staging reflect power struggles between conformity and resistance. The historical and social backdrop of the play is also considered. Post-war housing policies and class divisions shaped these conflicts. The analysis reveals that Arden presents social conformity as both control and exclusion. The Sawneys seek autonomy but face societal pressure and institutional intervention. Their way of life is regulated against their will. The play also critiques absolute freedom. It shows how fragile independence is within a rigid social order. The conclusion highlights Arden’s broader argument. True freedom remains elusive in a society that values stability over individual agency. The play reinforces his critique of post-war social policies. These policies imposed order at the cost of diversity and self-determination

Abstract

This study examines how Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowers female students within online educational systems, particularly in developing contexts. With the growth of e-learning, AI offers transformative opportunities to enhance educational access, engagement, and overcome traditional barriers. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 110 female students from medical, computer science, education, and economics disciplines. Data were gathered through Likert scale and open-ended questions, focusing on AI use, learning experiences, and adoption barriers. Descriptive statistics analyzed the results, revealing that AI significantly enhances educational access and motivation among female students. However, technical issues and cultural constraints remain major challenges. The study concludes that while AI has strong potential to empower women in education, addressing these barriers is essential for wider, equitable adoption

Abstract

Syntactic agreement in English grammar is relatively imperative and it is a powerful linguistic element. Its useful and significant roles make impact in everyday usage both in written and spoken English as it greatly affects second language users of English. The paper is geared towards highlighting the meaning of syntactic agreement and some of the numerous types of syntactic agreement. Specifically, the study dwells more on the rules governing subject verb agreement. It brings to light the purpose and relevance of subject verb agreement. It also projects to discuss how syntactic agreement poses problems to the second language users of English. Copious local and international literature were reviewed. Principles and parameters theory by Chomsky (1981) and Binarity principle by Mbah (2016) were the theories that anchor this study. In principles and parameters, Chomsky’s claims that human grammars are constructed entirely of principle, not of rules because rules are construction specific but principles are universal, with some degree of parameterization. Binarity principle relies more on the principle of constituent commanding. This implies that, the head of a construction determines the type of verb it will take. Two research questions were used. 100 students from 3 schools in Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, were sampled using structural questionnaire. The results of the data were analyzed using simple percentages. The findings reveal that students were not conversant with the use of subject verb agreement. We recommend that great attention should be paid to the nuances of grammar, especially with regard to subject verb agreement
