Abstract

The aims of this study were to find the elements of feminist leadership and how the influence effects of feminist leadership that arise in the development of Queen Ingrith's character in the film "Maleficent : Mistress of Evil" directed by Joachim Rønning. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from the film Maleficent : Mistress of Evil in the form of words, phrases, utterances, conversation and action. The approach used was feminism because this study related to feminism values.The result of this study shows that there are four elements of feminist leadership and four influence effects that arise from Queen Ingrith’s character in this film. The first are elements of feminist leadership which include power, principles and values, politics and purpose, and the last is practice. The second is the influence effect that emerges from Queen Ingrith's character, namely, influence suits our leadership style, influence can be actively cultivated, influence is a tool for the times,and influence creates a new way to work. From the data above, it could be concluded that Queen Ingrith has two sides of leadership,namely female leadership and male leadership.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the types and the functions of illocutionary acts in Marnie’s World movie. The study used theory based on Austin to classify the types of illocutionary acts, and functions of illocutionary acts based on Leech. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. In process of collecting data, the writer used several steps, as follows; firstly, watched Marnie’s World movie continuously. Secondly, wrote all utterances from Marnie’s World movie, then classified the utterance into types and functions of illocutionary acts. The results of this study showed that there are 25 utterances in which containing the 5 types and 4 functions of illocutionary acts. The types of illocutionary acts in which found in Marnie’s World movie as follows; verdictive, exercitive, commisive, behabitive, and expositive. Meanwhile, the functions are competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the types of bullying experienced by the main character and would find out the impact on the mental health of the main character as a result of this bullying behavior in the film The Fat Boy Chronicles. The research method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive method. This study used bullying theory by Alen and Freud to analyze the data, and a psychological approach was also used in this study. The writer used the library method to find the theory and data needed for this thesis. The primary data consist from the film The Fat Boy Chronicles. Secondary data consist from books, articles, journals, dictionaries and theses The results of this study answer two problems of the study. First, the writer can find out the types of bullying experienced by the main character in the film. There are three typesof bullying that the writer found in this film, namely physical bullying, verbal bullying and emotional bullying. Second, the writer is able to find out the impact that occurred on mental health, namely anxiety and depression, self-esteem and self-identity, isolation.

Abstract

This study aims at explore the types of translation shifts in the subtitles of the movie The Bad Guys. This research is based on Catford's theory of shifts and utilizes a qualitative descriptive method. The data collected involves translations found in the dialogues of the characters Wolf, Snake, and Diane Foxington, focusing on words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that contain shifts. The results show that all types of shifts are found in the translated text of the movie "The Bad Guys." From the 247 shifts identified, there are 9 level shifts and 238 category shifts, in which, in detail, 98 data are classified as state shifts, 9 data are classified as class shifts, 123 data are classified as unit shifts, and 8 data are classified as intra-system shifts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the forms of humor in a stand-up comedy video titled "Somasi". It used the humor theory proposed by Martin to support this analysis. This study used the descriptive-qualitative method. The results of this study showed that the comics' utterances contain several forms of humor. These types include jokes, spontaneous conversational humor consisting of sarcasm, satire, overstatement and understatement, self-deprecation, ridicule, answers to rhetorical questions, and clever answers to serious statements.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out types and values of modality in Beauty and the Beast movie. In conducting this thesis, the writer used the Systemic Functional Linguistic theory by M.A.K. Halliday (2004), which focused on interpersonal function. This study used descriptive qualitative method. In obtaining the data, the writer took the data from the dialogs, which showing the phrase, clause or utterance that is used in the dialogs of character and writing down the word, phrase, or sentence that are included in the types and values of the modality. The result of this study indicates that there are found 17 utterances containing of modality which is probability, usually, obligation and inclination. Whereas values of modality are divided in three degrees which are high value, medium value, and low value the used by characters in Beauty and the Beast movie.

Abstract

This study aimed at explain the types of hyponymy found in Kate Chopin’s selected short stories. Semantic theory and hyponymy approach was used to answer the problem of study. This study used qualitative method. The data were taken of sentence by Kate Chopin selected short stories. The results of this study indicate that there are fifty three of hyponymy with fifteen superordinate it’s grouped in the types of hyponymy found in short stories by Kate Chopin. The types of hyponymy are taxonomic, functional, and collective: singular, heterogeneous stuffs, and collective: plural. Also fifteen superordinate are male, female, number, color, cloth, appearance, tell, see, time distance, size, occupation, part of body, water, and season.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the forms of hyperbole based on Claridge theory, denotative and connotative meaning, and function of hyperbole found in Langston Hughes’s poem. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from a collection of poetry by Langston Hughes, in the form of lines, words, phrases, sentences, and stanzas. The result of the research shows that from four poems, it is found 17 hyperbolic expressions in Langston Hughes’s poems texts. These hyperbolic expressions are grouped into five forms. They are 2 single-word hyperbole, 6 phrasal hyperbole, 2 clausal hyperbole, 2 numerical hyperbole, and 5 comparison hyperbole. This study also analyzes the meaning of denotative and connotative and the function of hyperbolic expressions which are emphasize, evaluation, simplification, interest intensification, contrast of differences, and clarification. Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the symptoms and the treatment of manic depressive disorder as seen in “Mr. Jones” movie. This study using Hodges theory to analysis the symptoms and treatment of manic depressive disorder. The method that used in this study were descriptive qualitative. The data in this study were taken from quotations such as word,phrases,dialogue and sentences. The result shows that there are fifty five utterances contain three symptoms and treatment of the manic depressive or bipolar disorder. These data are categorized as mania which data seen thirty nine data its contain of extreme elevated mood or euphoria is an excessive feeling of joy are four data, grandiosity are six data seen, irritability are nine data, rapid speech are four data, racing thought are six data, impulsiveness are three data, risk sexual behaviors is one data and excessive spending are six data. The hypomania symptoms are five data contain of desire and drive for success contain of hopeless are five data, and uncontrollable swings of racing thoughts which coincide with feelings of despair and blackness one data. While the treatment of manic depressive disorder are exercise to increase confident and positive image is one data, medications are three data, therapy to increase mental health and physical health are two data.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing psychopathy symptoms of Kevin and at finding the factor causing Kevin become psychopath. This study was about individuals who were had psychopathy. The approach used in this research was a psychological approach and psychopathy theory to answer the research problem. This study used descriptive qualitative method.The result of this study indicates that there are five symptoms of psychopathy found in Kevin that are conning/manipulation, callous/lack of empathy, lack of remorse/guilt, impulsive, and irresponsible. Meanwhile, the factor causing Kevin becomes psychopath is parenting factor, because of the disapproval of a mother, namely Eva, in accepting Kevin’s presence while in her womb, then the way she adopted and educated Kevin so Kevin become naughty and committed criminal acts
