Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in instilling the values of religious tolerance in schools. Using qualitative methods and descriptive approaches, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and analysis of related documents. The results showed that Islamic Religious Education teachers play a crucial role as models and facilitators in instilling the value of tolerance through dialogic learning, interfaith activities, and integration of these values in the curriculum. The challenges faced include time constraints, student resistance, and the influence of the external environment. However, in general, students showed positive responses and there was increased interaction between students of different religions, creating a more inclusive school environment.  This study concludes that the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers is crucial in shaping attitudes of religious tolerance among students and further policy support and teacher training are needed to overcome the challenges and strengthen the inculcation of religious moderation in schools.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal how services were provided to prospective pilgrims, particularly in 2022, after a two-year Hajj suspension due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The study focuses on the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Rejang Lebong Regency. Employing a descriptive approach, the research subjects included the Head of the Office, the Head of the Hajj and Umrah Organizer, staff, and prospective pilgrims. Data was gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data collection, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation was used for data validity. The findings indicate that the management of Hajj services post-COVID-19 in Rejang Lebong, encompassing planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision, maintained pre-pandemic service principles, especially regulatory guidelines. However, differences emerged in the overall climate, atmosphere, and pilgrim numbers, with only 50% of the regular quota (282 pilgrims) being allocated, and an age limit under 65 years imposed. This research is novel, as there has been a lack of studies on post-COVID-19 Hajj services. In conclusion, the post-COVID-19 Hajj services in Rejang Lebong effectively adapted to health protocols and limited quotas while upholding pre-pandemic service principles. Despite changes in the atmosphere and pilgrim numbers, the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs successfully delivered services through structured and adaptive management.

Abstract

The study aims to examine the Islamic approach to tribal differences concerning the tribal crisis in northern Nigeria, also to deliberate on the significance of discarding tribal differences to unity based on Shari’ah guidance as related to the north of Nigeria, and to assess the implications and challenges of upholding tribal differences as a basis of disunity in northern Nigeria. This study utilizes a qualitative descriptive design to deeply analyze the Islamic approach to conflict resolution, focusing on religious disputes among Semitic religious followers in Northern Nigeria. The design will allow for an understanding of cultural, social, and religious factors influencing tribal conflicts and religious disputes. The results of this study indicate that Islamic teachings have great potential in easing religious and ethnic conflicts in Northern Nigeria, which are often triggered by tensions between tribes and religions. Islam teaches principles of peace that are not only theological but also practical in everyday life, such as respect for individual rights and the importance of brotherhood (ukhuwah). this study also found that tolerance is one of the most emphasized values in Islamic teachings. This tolerance is reflected in the behavior of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who showed respect for other religions, such as in the Medina Charter which gave full rights to non-Muslim groups to practice their beliefs without coercion. The study concludes that to achieve sustainable peace, the people of Northern Nigeria must implement Islamic teachings that emphasize social justice, equality, and respect for individual rights.

Abstract

The study evaluates the dynamics of Islamic e-business transactions in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and their socio-economic impact on Muslims in Northwestern Nigeria. By examining the integration of Sharˉiʽah -compliant principles within digital commerce, the research explores how Islamic jurisprudence influences online business practices, including contract fairness, transparency, and prohibition of interest (riba). A mixed-methods approach involving surveys, interviews, and content analysis was employed to assess the awareness, adoption, and challenges faced by Muslim entrepreneurs and consumers. Findings reveal a growing acceptance of Islamic e-business models, driven by the need for ethical commerce, though constrained by limited digital literacy and infrastructural deficits. Quantitative and qualitative analysis reveals that adherence to Islamic principles such as the avoidance of usury and haram products varies among MSMEs. The lack of knowledge on Islamic finance among MSME owners highlights the need for training and awareness campaigns. Consumer trust in halal-certified platforms and Islamic payment gateways is generally positive, although fraud and regulatory concerns remain. Statistical analysis shows a strong correlation between MSME performance and adherence to Islamic business ethics. MSMEs using Islamic financial instruments such as Murabaha and Mudaraba show improved financial stability and market expansion. The interview results confirm the importance of regulatory intervention to create an enabling environment for Shariah-compliant e-businesses. The paper concludes with recommendations to enhance Islamic e-business adoption, highlighting its potential to boost financial inclusion and economic empowerment among Muslims in the region while preserving religious values.

Abstract

Background of Study: Students’ interest in reading the Qur’an reflects an important dimension of religious character development in higher education. However, many university students demonstrate low consistency and motivation in Qur’anic reading practices.Aims and Scope of the Paper: This study analyzes the strategies employed by the Qur’anic Enthusiast Student Community (KOMPAQ) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu in fostering students’ engagement with Qur’anic reading activities. Methods: This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with thematic analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 8 KOMPAQ core members and 10 active participants, participant observation in mentoring activities, and document analysis of community programs. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, to identify recurring patterns of strategy implementation. Results: The findings indicate that students’ engagement in Qur’anic reading is influenced by prior educational background and peer environment. KOMPAQ addresses this through several interconnected strategies: (1) creating a psychologically safe and inclusive learning environment; (2) strengthening motivation through peer role models and inspirational member narratives; (3) designing structured yet flexible programs such as halaqah tahsin, tahfizh, One Day One Ayah, One Day One Hadith, and routine tilawah; (4) reinforcing participation through appreciation and symbolic rewards; and (5) utilizing digital platforms and inter-organizational collaboration to expand outreach. Conclusion: These strategies form a thematic pattern of environmental support, motivational reinforcement, program accessibility, and social networking.

Abstract

Background of study: This paper examines the intersection of Islamic finance and sustainable development within the Nigerian context. As Nigeria grapples with significant developmental challenges, this study explores how financial models rooted in Islamic principles align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).Aims and scope of paper: The study specifically assesses the role of non-interest banking in fostering poverty reduction and the growth of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This work investigates the mechanisms through which Islamic financial instruments like Murabaha, Mudarabah, Musharakah, and Sukuk are deployed to support pro-poor initiatives and empower entrepreneurs. Methods: Through a systematic review of existing literature, regulatory frameworks, and operational data from Nigerian non-interest banks such as Jaiz Bank, Taj Bank, and Lotus Bank, this study explores the topic.Result: The analysis reveals a strong theoretical and practical congruence between the objectives of Islamic finance, which emphasize ethical investment, risk-sharing, and asset-backed transactions, and the core tenets of sustainable development. The findings indicate that while non-interest banking holds considerable potential to drive inclusive growth by expanding financial access to underserved populations and providing patient capital for SMEs, its impact is constrained by challenges including low public awareness, regulatory complexities, and human capital deficits. Conclusion: The paper concludes by offering policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the non-interest banking sector to more effectively contribute to Nigeria's sustainable development agenda.
