Abstract

Soil fauna is an important component of the soil ecosystem, playing a role in the decomposition of organic matter, nutrient cycling, and improving the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil. The use of Roundup herbicide as a weed control is suspected to have an impact on the presence and diversity of soil fauna. This study aims to determine the composition of soil fauna, the level of similarity, and the diversity index of soil fauna in land sprayed with Roundup herbicide and control land. The study was conducted in Maulafa District, Kupang City, using survey and field experiment methods. Soil fauna samples were taken at depths of 5, 10, and 15 cm and from the soil surface using a zigzag technique, then extracted with a modified Tullgren funnel. Environmental parameters measured included soil temperature, soil pH, and soil moisture. Data were analyzed using the similarity index, the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’), and the soil fauna dominance index. The results showed that the application of Roundup herbicide did not cause mass lethality to soil fauna. The soil fauna composition in the treatment area remained diverse and was dominated by the order Collembola, particularly the families Isotomidae, Sminthuridae, and Onychiuridae. The similarity level between the treatment and control areas was high, with relatively stable diversity index values. This condition was influenced by the moist, litter-covered soil microclimate and the adaptability of the soil fauna through the detoxification mechanism of the Mixed Function Oxydases (MFO) enzyme.

Abstract

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common chronic complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus associated with peripheral neuropathy, poor glycemic control, infection, and increased risk of amputation. This case report aims to describe evidence-based nursing care for a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus presenting with a Wagner grade 2 diabetic foot ulcer using the SDKI, SIKI, and SLKI frameworks. A 58-year-old male presented with a plantar ulcer on the right foot for three weeks, accompanied by pain, seropurulent exudate, erythema, and elevated blood glucose levels (random blood glucose 286 mg/dL; HbA1c 9.4%). Wound assessment revealed a 3.2 × 2.4 cm ulcer with a depth of 0.8 cm, partial slough, moderate exudate, and no gangrene, consistent with Wagner grade 2 classification. Priority nursing diagnoses included impaired tissue integrity, acute pain, risk of infection, and unstable blood glucose levels. Nursing interventions focused on aseptic wound care, infection monitoring, offloading, pain management, patient education, and glycemic control. After five days of care, clinical improvements were observed, including reduced pain, decreased exudate, improved wound condition, and better glycemic trends. These findings are consistent with current evidence emphasizing comprehensive DFU management, including wound care, pressure reduction, infection control, and optimal glycemic management to enhance healing and prevent complications

Abstract

Thyroid carcinoma is the most common malignancy found in the endocrine glands and accounts for 1% of all malignancies. The average incidence of thyroid carcinoma cases according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from 2012-2017 was 14.3 per 100,000 total population per year, with an average mortality rate of 0.5 per 100,000 population per year. In Indonesia in 2000, thyroid carcinoma ranked ninth out of the ten most common carcinomas (4.3%) and covered 90% of all endocrine carcinomas. Based on medical record data at Dr. M. Djamil Padang General Hospital, the incidence of thyroid carcinoma in 2015 was 373 people and increased in 2016 to 850 people. Based on the problems described above, and there has not been much research on Thyroglobulin levels as a prognostic factor for recurrence of thyroid carcinoma in Indonesia, especially Padang. Encourage the author to conduct research on differentiated thyroglobulin levels after total thyroidectomy at Dr. M. Djamil Padang General Hospital.

Abstract

The use of online games is increasingly widespread among school-age children, including those at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. There are concerns that high levels of play could impact children's mental and emotional well-being, which is a crucial aspect of their psychosocial development. This study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of playing online games on the emotional mental health of school children at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Rejodadi Cilacap. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 173 students and was selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used were an online gaming intensity questionnaire and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rank test. Most children have high online gaming intensity (52.6%) and normal emotional mental condition (56.6%), although 43.4% are in the borderline category. Statistical test results show a very strong and significant relationship between online gaming intensity and children's emotional mental condition (r = 0.750; p = 0.000). Conclusion: The higher the intensity of playing online games, the greater the risk of mental and emotional disorders in school children. Therefore, support and supervision from parent and theachers are essential to limit playing time and provide education about the impact of online games on mental health.

Abstract

Soil fauna play a crucial ecological role in maintaining ecosystem balance, particularly in litter decomposition, soil structure improvement, and nutrient cycling. However, the presence of toxic chemical residues from leaves and herbicide applications has the potential to disrupt the survival of soil fauna. One source of litter suspected of impacting soil fauna is Chromolaena odorata, a weed containing bioactive flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. This study aimed to determine the effect of leaf litter on soil insect populations and to analyze the impact of certain types of leaf litter in Maulafa District, East Nusa Tenggara. The study was conducted in November 2024 on cultivated land sprayed with Roundup herbicide in Maulafa Village, Kupang City. The research methods included soil and litter sampling, measuring pH, temperature, and soil moisture, and collecting soil fauna using the zigzag method in a 10 × 10 m plot at depths of 5, 10, and 15 cm. Samples were extracted using a modified Tullgren funnel for 24 hours and identified to the family or species level. The results of the study showed that 16 orders/families/species of soil fauna were found that generally live in the litter layer, while Isotomidae, Onychiuridae, and Sminthuridae are able to live up to a depth of 5 cm. Leaf litter acts as a source of energy and nutrition for soil fauna, and the chemical compounds of Chromolaena odorata are not lethal because soil fauna have an internal detoxification mechanism.

Abstract

This study  amis to examine the knowledge and utilization of the suger palm (Arenga pinnata) by the local community in Alor Besar Village, Alor Barat Laut District, Alor Regency. The sugar palm holds significant ecological, economic, and cultural value for the local people. The research employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including direct observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation leaders, sugar palm farmers, and community members involved in processing palm products. The results show that almost all parts of the sugar palm are traditionally utilized, such as the sap for traditional drinks and palm sugar, fibers (ijuk) for brooms and roofing, leaves for food wrapping, and the trunk and roots for construction materials and handicrafts. These uses are not only economic in nature but also reflect local wisdom in preserving natural resources. However, challenges remain, such as the lack of natural regeneration of palm trees and low interest among the younger generation in managing this plant.
