Abstract

The digital era has transformed global consumer behavior, making people increasingly dependent on technology in making purchasing transactions. Along with the increasing ease of digital access, there has been a tendency for excessive consumerism among the community. This condition has created various serious problems, including personal financial crises, mental health disorders, and worrying environmental damage, so that cognitive and spiritual approaches are needed to control them. Based on these problems, this study aims to analyze human cognitive processes from Al-Ghazali’s perspective and explore its implications for controlling consumer behavior in the digital era. The methodology used is literature research with a qualitative approach, utilizing the book Kimiya’ As-Sa’adah by Imam Al-Ghazali as a primary source and various supporting literature as secondary sources, which are then analyzed using content analysis methods systematically and objectively to find the relevance of Al-Ghazali’s thoughts to the phenomenon of digital consumerism. The results of the study indicate that Al-Ghazali’s perspective on the human cognitive process views the human structure as consisting of qalb (heart), reason, lust, and anger that are mutually integrated, where the implementation of his cognitive development methods such as worship practices, spiritual learning, and contemplative observation can help consumers build resilience in facing consumer stimuli in the digital era. Based on these findings, this study recommends the need to integrate Al-Ghazali’s thoughts into the educational curriculum and the development of spiritual development programs and cognitive training to help consumers maintain self-control in facing the increasingly massive flow of digital consumerism.

Abstract

This research highlights how the concepts of Sufism can guide the holistic development of human character and potential. In the modern context, this approach is often associated with “self-improvement” or self-development that aims to achieve a higher quality of life, spiritually, mentally and socially. Qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach is used to understand, describe, and analyse the concepts of Sufism related to self-development. Literature study is also used to explore classical Sufism works and their relevance to modern studies. The results show that there are key aspects of the relationship between Sufism and self-development, namely Tazkiyatun Nafs (Purification of the Soul), Muraqabah (Full Awareness of God's Presence), Mujahadah (Effort and Self-Control), Ihsan (Perfection in Doing Good), and Spiritual and Worldly Balance. Each of these key concepts can be used as an effort in optimizing human character and potential holistically. Especially if the implementation of the five key concepts is preceded by Awaluddin Makrifatullah as the main foundation in tasawuf, it will further strengthen efforts to optimise the character and potential of an individual holistically. This is because, awaluddin makrifatullah is the main key for an individual to be able to understand holistically and comprehensively about the meaning of life, including understanding the existence of humans and all His creations, both visible and invisible (ghaib) in this world.

Abstract

Modern life today has the potential to make people lose the meaning of life because of the various demands of life that continue to develop rapidly. One effort to rediscover the meaning of life for a Muslim is to remember God again by doing dhikr. Breath dhikr is one of the spiritual practices that emphasizes the regulation and awareness of breathing in order to get closer to Allah SWT. According to Al-Ghazali, this dhikr is not just a repetition of words or sentences, but involves a deep appreciation of the greatness of Allah, which should be absorbed into every inhalation and exhalation. This study aims to see the relevance of breath dhikr in the lives of modern society today. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach through library research whose data sources are obtained from books, notes, literature which in the writing system can be used to study or research an object. The results of this study indicate that with breath dhikr, a person can achieve inner peace and protect the heart from worldly thoughts. The practice of breath dhikr is in line with the needs of today's humans for mindfulness and meditation as a means of achieving balance between the material and spiritual worlds. In addition to providing peace of mind, breathing dhikr can also improve focus, productivity, and quality of life holistically. Thus, Al-Ghazali's teachings on breathing dhikr still have strong relevance as a method of spiritual and mental development in facing the challenges of modern life.

Abstract

Psychotherapy involving religious aspects is believed to have a positive impact on improving individual conditions. However, the implementation of zikir therapy can be done differently and will have different impacts. Griya Sehat Syafaat 99 clinic applies zikir therapy that collaborates religious aspects. This article was written with the aim of revealing a description of the implementation of zikir therapy techniques that will be analyzed from sufism, theology, and psychology perspectives. This study is a qualitative phenomenological study involving therapists at the Griya Sehat Syafaat 99 clinic as research respondents. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that zikir therapy was carried out in five stages, namely the preliminary stage, explanation, examination, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation of zikir psychotherapy from a Sufi perspective incorporates the concept of soul purification (tazkiyatun nafs) through the integration of sharia, haqiqah, and ma'rifah to elevate the levels of the nafs (self). Theologically, zikir guides individuals toward tawhid through dhikr al-qalb, which fosters awareness of Allah’s presence in every utterance, ultimately leading to nafs kamilah (the perfected self). Psychologically, zikir produces a calming effect that is physically manifested through increased alpha brainwave activity. The success of the function of zikir in the context of therapy can be supported by the therapist's mastery of psychological basis, Islamic faith, and Sufism comprehensively in the therapy process.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of education and learning at the junior high school (SMP) level based on Sufi (tasawuf) values as a pedagogical foundation. The research method employed is library research with a critical analysis of Islamic education and Sufism literature. The findings reveal three key points: first, there is an essential alignment between Sufi values—such as sincerity (ikhlas), patience (sabr), and spiritual awareness (muraqabah)—and the goals of character education at the junior high school level. Second, Sufism offers an alternative pedagogical framework grounded in spirituality, integrating the spiritual dimension into the learning process, thus transforming it into a holistic journey of inner development. Third, modern Islamic education literature has not yet optimally integrated tasawuf as a pedagogical approach, indicating the need for curriculum reconstruction and the development of literature that incorporates Sufi principles. This study suggests that teachers, curriculum developers, and academics should more actively adopt Sufi-based values in formal education to shape students who are not only intellectually capable but also spiritually and morally mature. In doing so, junior high school education can significantly contribute to building a generation grounded in both knowledge and spiritual wisdom.

Abstract

Al Fashdu therapy is an Islamic psychotherapy that uses the Al Fashdu technique as one of the methods in its therapy process. Al Fashdu therapy is considered to be able to cure various diseases, one of which is the symptoms of hypertension. The symptoms experienced by hypertension patients are divided into two aspects, namely physical and psychological. The psychological symptoms of hypertension are emotional disorders. Emotional disorders are a condition where a person's emotional response is too weak or too strong in certain situations. The purpose of this study was to determine emotional disorders and Al Fashdu therapy to overcome emotional disorders in hypertension patients at the Kajen Pekalongan Therapy House. This study uses a type of field research with a descriptive qualitative method. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that hypertension patients at the Kajen Pekalongan Therapy House experience moderate emotional disorders, which are characterized by excessive angry responses when facing everyday problems. This arises because the physical symptoms of hypertension then trigger psychological symptoms. Al Fashdu therapy can overcome these physical symptoms, so that the psychological symptoms of hypertension, namely emotional disorders, are reduced, which are shown by being calm in facing problems. This study provides a positive contribution in overcoming emotional disorders in hypertensive patients, including increasing the ability to control emotional disorders through Al Fashdu therapy.

Abstract

Self-awareness as a creation, servant, and caliph is a fundamental aspect in shaping human character and spirituality as bearers of divine trust. This study aims to examine in depth how this self-awareness is formed and functions within the context of religious and social life. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results reveal that self-awareness as a creation teaches human limitations and dependence on God, as a servant emphasizes the importance of obedience and devotion, and as a caliph motivates moral and social responsibility in managing the trust of the world. The implications of this study highlight the need to integrate these three aspects of awareness in religious education and guidance to develop complete and responsible individuals. This research provides a unique contribution by combining theological and practical perspectives in building both spiritual and social awareness. These findings can serve as an important reference for developing religious education curricula and character-building strategies in various religious institutions.
