Abstract

This community service initiative began in response to environmental issues in Kertasemaya Village, where the lack of waste disposal facilities led some residents to improperly dispose of organic and non-organic waste, particularly in irrigation rivers, causing blockages. The increasing volume of plastic bottle waste requires proper management to prevent pollution. The community's awareness of waste management in Kertasemaya Village is still low. Several training sessions were conducted to address this problem, including education on hydroponic practices and the creation of simple planting media using discarded bottles, rock wool, and flannel fabric. Housewives showed interest in the hydroponic system and expressed their willingness to implement it at home. This training aims to enhance community awareness about waste management and the beneficial use of plastic bottles. The program aims to provide knowledge and skills regarding the utilization of yard spaces through hydroponic systems by using plastic bottle waste to minimize environmental pollution in Kertasemaya Village. The success of the training was measured by comparing participants' knowledge before and after the training. Pretest and posttest results showed that 93% of participants experienced an increase in knowledge, while 59% showed no improvement.

Abstract

Tegalwangi Village, located in Umbulsari Subdistrict, Jember Regency, has significant potential for gourami fish farming, making it the largest gourami farming center in the district. However, the low public interest in raw gourami fish has hindered its marketability. Therefore, product innovation is necessary to facilitate gourami fish consumption. One such innovation is frozen gourami products. This program aims to empower Tegalwangi Village residents as entrepreneurs through four stages: socialization, training, mentoring, and marketing. During the program implementation, 30 individuals participated in training, and 10 entrepreneurs were coached by the PPK Ormawa HMPWK Team. The program has enhanced residents' knowledge of frozen gourami production. The community successfully produced quality frozen gourami and marketed the products to the public. This initiative is expected to address low fish consumption and limited market access while serving as an alternative to improve the local economy.

Abstract

This study aims to implement a women farmer empowerment program in Cipedes Village through the innovation of traditional sagon food processing to enhance entrepreneurial skills. The methods used in this study include training, mentoring, and evaluation of women's farmer groups (KWT) in producing and marketing sagon more innovatively. The results show that innovations in sagon processing, including taste, shape, and packaging, have successfully increased market interest in this product. Furthermore, providing training and guidance on using digital technology for marketing has improved the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills of KWT members. This program has not only contributed to increasing household income but also strengthened the role of women farmers in local economic development. Therefore, empowering women farmers through the innovation of traditional food processing like sagon has great potential to be further developed as a model for economic empowerment in rural areas.

Abstract

PKK empowerment program in Pambang Pesisir Village through training in the production of fish floss and nuggets. Using an interactive approach, 15 PKK women participated in a 3-hour hands-on demonstration. Activities included visual counseling (30 minutes), a Q&A session (15 minutes), a product-making demonstration (90 minutes), and independent practice (45 minutes). The participant satisfaction rate reached 95%, with 80% of them interested in developing businesses based on the products learned. The program successfully introduced high-value fish processing alternatives, opening opportunities for income diversification in coastal communities. The training increased participants' awareness of the potential of local marine resources. Further analysis showed a 40% improvement in participants' knowledge of the nutritional value of processed fish products. Additionally, 70% of participants reported increased confidence in their entrepreneurial abilities. The program also strengthened collaboration among PKK members, with 60% expressing interest in forming joint business groups. The potential economic impact is estimated to increase household income by up to 25% in the medium term. Recommendations for program sustainability include establishing production cooperatives, advanced training in small business management, and developing local marketing networks. The study concludes that empowerment programs based on practical skills can serve as effective catalysts for the economic development of coastal communities.

Abstract

Urgency of protecting personal data in the use of social media in the digital era, with a case study of Pematang Jering Village. Amidst rampant cyber crimes such as hacking and identity theft, this rural community faces significant challenges due to a lack of understanding about digital security. This research emphasizes the importance of digital literacy and awareness of the risks lurking in users' personal data on social media. The study uses a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach, involving in-depth interviews with village residents, including victims of hacking and cybersecurity experts, as well as participatory observation for one month to understand the dynamics of social media use and the community's awareness level regarding data security. Data was also collected through document analysis related to data protection policies. The findings reveal that the majority of respondents have a low understanding of digital security risks despite their active use of social media in daily life. The lack of digital literacy leaves village residents vulnerable to cyber crimes; some have experienced incidents such as identity theft or misuse of personal data. The research identifies the absence of local regulations and security infrastructure as aggravating factors for this vulnerability. In conclusion, there is an urgent need to enhance digital literacy among rural communities, particularly through educational interventions that engage the youth as agents of change. The practical implications of this study include recommendations for the development of structured digital education programs and the implementation of stronger regulations and adequate security infrastructure to safeguard personal data. A holistic approach is needed to create a safe and sustainable digital ecosystem at the community level.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest coffee producers in the world, with Karangpring Village in Jember Regency as one of the areas producing quality coffee. Even though coffee production in this village is abundant, the economic conditions of the coffee farmers are still less prosperous because they only sell raw coffee beans at low prices. To overcome this problem, the Capacity Building Program (PPK) team from HMJA Jember University proposed a solution through downstream coffee products, namely by processing raw coffee beans into ground coffee. This step is expected to increase the selling value of products, farmers' income and their welfare. Service activities carried out include training in using tools, making ground coffee, forming business groups, as well as training on business strategies and product certification. With appropriate training and development support, it is hoped that coffee farmers in Karangpring Village can be independent and improve their welfare in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is a crucial aspect in Indonesia in 2024. In the post-COVID-19 era, livelihoods can no longer rely solely on employers but must also be developed from the grassroots level through collaboration to create new job opportunities. This is essential to attract the interest of Indonesia's productive generation, particularly among rural communities and, more broadly, among nearby urban areas. Pasigitan Village, located in Boja Subdistrict, Kendal Regency, is a highland area with excellent agricultural potential. In addition to its agricultural products, Pasigitan Village also has side industries in the form of home-based businesses producing palm sugar, either in solid or bulk form, which holds great potential to be marketed to sugar export suppliers. Based on this, the UNNES service team aims to assist these home-based industries in obtaining the PIRT (Household Food Industry) certification. This certification includes training to help producers comply with good manufacturing practices and meet market standards, allowing their palm sugar products to be marketed more broadly and reach more distant markets. The selected method for this community service activity is socialization and assistance. The socialization will explore the palm sugar producers in Pasigitan Village who are part of the home-based industry group and familiarize them with PIRT standards. The assistance will then provide knowledge, understanding, and skills on how to achieve the PIRT standards. The goal is to address the existing problems and create a positive impact.
