Abstract

Character education is one of the important issues in the world of education, especially in the context of moral and ethical formation. In the Qur'an, character education receives significant attention, providing comprehensive guidance for forming a noble personality. This article explores how merchants support the growth of education through the provision of funds, dissemination of knowledge, development of educational infrastructure, and the sowing of social and religious values. Using a historical approach, the discussion includes concrete examples of the role of merchants during the Srivijaya era, the Aceh Sultanate, and trade networks in the archipelago. The results of the study show that merchants not only play a role as financial supporters of educational institutions, but also as globalization connectors that bring educational ideas and innovations from various parts of the world. Their contributions have a long-term impact on community development, both in social, economic and cultural aspects. This study emphasizes the importance of synergy between the economic and educational sectors in creating a sustainable civilization.

Abstract

Ibn Rushd's philosophical thought is referred to by some Islamic thinkers as the last product of Islamic intellectual property with original, creative and innovative philosophical patterns because subsequently there were no significant developments but only theoretical explanations and deepening of studies. It is undeniable that the intellectual treasures left by Ibn Rushd are so large. Broadly speaking, it can be concluded that the philosophical school of Ibn Rushd is rational. It upholds reason and plays a major role in interpreting the realm of existence. It is as if Ibn Rushd's rational thought pattern represents the rational style of Western Islam (Morocco), which then clashes with the theological mindset and Eastern mysticism, represented by al-Ghozali. Experts say that the rationalism that became the style of Ibn Rushd’s thought was inseparable from the influence of Aristotle's philosophy, where Ibn Rushd was considered successful in teaching Aristotle's philosophy and was able to show the weaknesses of other Muslim theologians and philosophers. So according to Atef Iraqi, to fully understand Ibn Rusd's philosophy, one must also study Aristotle's philosophy. Ibn Rushd is considered by many scholars to be a true aristocrat. However, according to Mahmud Qasim, Ibn Rushd has distinctive originality of philosophical thought, unlike Renan's accusation. To see how far the originality of Ibn Rushd's philosophical thought is, this paper will attempt to review Ibn Rushd's philosophical thoughts which are mapped into the problems of cosmocentrism, ethnocentrism, and anthropocentrism.

Abstract

This study discusses the many pathways to doing good in the context of Islamic teachings, focusing on two important hadiths found in the book Riyadh Al-Shalihin by Imam an-Nawawi. The first hadith, from Abu Dharr Radhiallahu ‘Anhu, emphasizes the prohibition against belittling any good deed, no matter how small, and illustrates that a simple act like greeting someone with a cheerful face can have a significant positive impact on others. The second hadith, from Jabir Radhiallahu ‘Anhu, states that every good deed is considered a charity (sadaqah), reinforcing that all actions performed with good intentions bring one closer to Allah SWT. The analysis of these two hadiths demonstrates that there is no excuse for a Muslim to shy away from doing good, as every positive action, no matter how small, holds great value and reward. Thus, this study provides a deeper understanding of the important role of goodness in daily life and its relevance amidst current social challenges.

Abstract

Leadership is a process that must exist and be developed in human life as social beings. An individual's leadership potential can be cultivated from an early age, whether in the family environment or at school, and each school typically has internal organizations for its students. The Association of Tarbiyatul Mu’allimien Students (ISMI) is an active organization within the TMI Al-Amien Prenduan Islamic boarding school (ma’had), consisting of senior students, also referred to as mu’allim. A mu’allim serves as one of the right-hand aides to the kyai (Islamic scholar or leader) in the pesantren, and also functions as an administrator and leader for other students. The issue examined in this study is focused on one main question: What forms of guidance are provided to the mu’allim in developing leadership spirit? This research is a field study with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques employed triangulation methods, including interviews, observation, and documentation. The researcher then analyzed the data and information obtained from informants to extract findings aligned with the research focus. To verify the validity of the data, cross-triangulation was applied by comparing interview results with observations—contrasting the informants' perspectives with the researcher’s direct findings. The results of this study indicate that (1) the guidance provided by the Tarbiyatul Mu’allimien Al-Islamiyah boarding school has been implemented effectively and leads toward positive outcomes. The support given to mu’allim includes several forms of assistance, such as: leadership training for student group leaders, basic-level skill training courses, leadership and management training, and the establishment of a consultant staff team.

As a result, nature is experiencing an environmental crisis. So nature needs an alternative paradigm so that natural problems can be resolved. One of them is the tawhid paradigm which is considered capable of solving problems in nature. Murtada Mutahhari  is a contemporary philosopher with the uniqueness of the principle of tawhid of the universe in looking at humans. The problems raised in this study are how the universe in the paradigm of tawhid and the relationship between humans and nature in the paradigm of tawhid from the perspective of Murtada Mutahhari . This research tries to reveal how the universe in the paradigm of tawhid on Murtada Mutahhari  's thought. This research uses a qualitative approach (library research) by using descriptive data analysis. This research results in the finding that (1) The conception of tawhid is a conception that has all the characteristics where the conception of tawhid is an awareness of the facts about the existence of the universe thanks to the wise will of the creator. The conception of tawhid regarding the universe provides enthusiasm and purpose for life. Where humans in the conception of tawhid are placed for a holy purpose and a high degree of other creatures. (2) According to Murtada Mutahhari , the Tawhid Paradigm is a new paradigm that can solve problems in nature. Because in the paradigm of tawhid, humans are the essence and important elements of a life that is a core of nature. Humans are not just homo erectus (two-legged animals) who can speak. But humans are the most superior creatures to other creatures such as angels, heaven, and earth. That is why humans are made khalifah (representatives) of Allah on earth.

Abstract

The Hajj pilgrimage has historically served as more than a religious obligation; it has functioned as a conduit of transregional exchange and political imagination across the Muslim world. Rishad Choudhury’s Hajj across Empires: Pilgrimage and Political Culture after the Mughals, 1739-1857 explains on this dynamic in the context of South Asia, specifically in the period after the fall of the Mughal Empire and during the rise of British colonialism. The book is a prominent contribution to Islamic, South Asian, and transimperial history, providing an exact account of how pilgrimage intersected with politics, identity, and empire. Choudhury traces how the Hajj functioned not only as a spiritual journey but also as a political and cultural encounter in the age of empire. Through a comparative lens, the book highlights the ways in which South Asian Muslims navigated the shifting dynamics of British and Ottoman imperial politics, as well as local social transformations, during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The study emphasizes the importance of viewing pilgrimage not merely as a religious duty but as a complex, historically contingent phenomenon shaped by broader geopolitical forces. A particular focus of this study is the tragic incident at Ezhimala during the colonial period, where a Hajj-bound ship was set ablaze, resulting in the loss of numerous pilgrims’ lives. This event, though often overlooked in broader narratives, serves as a poignant example of the vulnerabilities faced by pilgrims in a politically charged and racially stratified colonial maritime world. By analyzing this episode within the framework of Choudhury’s trans-imperial perspective, the paper explains on the perils of religious mobility under colonial surveillance and highlights the localized tensions that mirrored the broader imperial contestations surrounding the Hajj.
