Abstract

Introduction: Population aging is a growing public health concern worldwide, requiring comprehensive healthcare services to maintain quality of life and functional independence. Integrated Health Service Posts (Posbindu) provide community-based health monitoring, disease prevention, and healthy aging promotion. However, elderly participation remains low. Family support is considered an important factor influencing motivation to engage in Posbindu activities. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family support and elderly motivation to participate in Posbindu activities in Kesambi Village, Cirebon City. Method: This quantitative correlational study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 90 elderly respondents were recruited through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires assessing family support and motivation to participate in Posbindu activities. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Most respondents reported poor family support (84.4%), while only 10.0% received good support. The majority demonstrated moderate motivation (80.0%), followed by high (12.2%) and low motivation (7.8%). Spearman Rank analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between family support and motivation to participate in Posbindu activities (p = 0.000), indicating that stronger family support was associated with higher motivation among older adults. Conclusion: Family support is significantly associated with elderly motivation to participate in Posbindu activities. Strengthening family involvement may improve participation in community-based healthcare programs and support healthier aging.

Abstract

Introduction: Tobacco use among adolescents is a significant public health issue in Indonesia. Early initiation of smoking increases the risk of long-term addiction and chronic diseases. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to peer pressure and environmental influences that promote smoking. Therefore, early health education is essential to provide accurate knowledge and build awareness about the dangers of smoking. Objective:  This community service program aimed to improve students’ understanding of the health risks associated with smoking and to promote healthy behaviors among adolescents at SMPN 29 Kota Bandung. The objective was to present scientific information on the effects of smoking and encourage students to reflect critically on its impact. Method:  The program was conducted at SMPN 29 Kota Bandung with the participation of 60 students. The intervention included: (1) a pre-test to measure students’ baseline knowledge, (2) a 60-minute educational session delivered through multimedia presentations, case examples, and interactive discussions covering the effects of smoking on various body systems, (3) a question-and-answer session to address misconceptions, and (4) a post-test to assess changes in knowledge. Educational leaflets were distributed to support ongoing learning at home. Conclusion: The activity resulted in a measurable improvement in students' knowledge of the dangers of smoking. Participants were actively engaged and showed increased awareness after the session. These findings underscore the importance of school-based health education programs as an effective approach to prevent smoking among adolescents.

Abstract

Introduction : The early age period is a crucial phase in children's growth and development that requires optimal monitoring and stimulation, especially in cognitive, language, and social-emotional aspects. However, low knowledge and involvement of mothers in proper stimulation practices are still the main challenges in monitoring child growth and development. This community service activity aims to improve the quality of supervision of child growth and development through the use of the Stimulasi-Cognitive  application as a means of monitoring cognitive development and increasing maternal sensitivity in mothers under five in Bandung. Method : The method used is a participatory and educational approach through counseling, training, mentoring, and pre-test and post-test evaluation. The activity involved 50 mothers who had children aged 0–5 years. Interventions include child growth and development education, training on the use of Stimulation-Cognitive applications, and assistance in using applications for 2–4 weeks. Data was collected through knowledge questionnaires, observation of application usage skills, brief interviews, and application usage data. Result : The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge of child growth and development indicators, shown by an increase in comprehension scores of 84% in the post-test compared to the initial condition. In addition, as many as 90% of participants were able to use the application independently, and the application was used to monitor more than 50 children during the mentoring period. The cognitive stimulation recommendation feature has been proven to encourage active involvement of mothers in accompanying children at home and increase maternal responsiveness to children's developmental needs. Conclusion : Stimulation-Cognitive-based education and mentoring  are effective in improving maternal knowledge, skills, and sensitivity, and have the potential to become a technology-based model for monitoring child growth and development that can be integrated into Puskesmas services.
