Abstract

The IV infusion process will cause pain that can be disturbing for children. Pain is a form of uncomfortable sensation that is felt personally by each individual. In addition, there will be changes in vital signs such as increased pulse, blood pressure, and respiration so that it will be an unpleasant experience for children. Non-pharmacological therapy as an intervention to reduce pain perception in children and increase comfort during medical procedures. One form of non-pharmacological technique is audio visual distraction using a smart book. Smart books are fun and interactive play therapy that can support cognitive, fine motor, and sensory aspects in children and to divert children's attention from pain by displaying more pleasant and interesting images and musical sounds so that it can reduce the pain scale after IV installation. The design used in the preparation of this Final Scientific Paper for Nurses is a case study with an intervention in the form of audio visual distraction using a smart book for ± 10 minutes. The number of respondents was 3 people, the intervention was carried out on September 14, October 7, and November 24, 2025, located in the Theresia Charitas Hospital Palembang room. After the smart book audio visual distraction therapy, there was a decrease in the pain scale for 3 respondents, namely in An. A from a pain scale of 7 to a pain scale of 4, An. G from a pain scale of 10 to a pain scale of 4, and An. R from a pain scale of 7 to a pain scale of 4. The application of EBP smart book audio visual distraction therapy can be used to reduce the pain scale in preschoolers after IV installation.

Abstract

The umbilical cord is the main entry point for systemic infection in newborns. Umbilical cord care aims to prevent infection and accelerate the breaking of the umbilical cord. Some postpartum mothers have insufficient knowledge about umbilical cord care so that education is needed. This study aims to determine the effect of education on newborn umbilical cord care on postpartum mothers' knowledge. This research method is a quantitative pre-experimental study using the One Group Pre Test-Post Test without control approach. The study was conducted at RSIA Murni Teguh Rosiva Medan. The population was 101 patients per month and 47 samples were obtained. Sampling was done randomly. Analysis was carried out univariately in a frequency distribution table and bivariately using the Paired Sample T-Test because the data was normally distributed. The results of the study showed that before being given education (pretest) the majority of postpartum mothers had poor knowledge (53.2%) with an average value of 5.09 ± 1.501, after being given education (posttest), the majority of postpartum mothers had good knowledge (70.2%) with an average value of 8.19 ± 1.096. Providing education on newborn umbilical cord care had a significant effect on increasing the knowledge of postpartum mothers at RSIA Murni Teguh Rosiva Medan, obtained p-value = 0.000 <0.05. There was a difference in the knowledge of postpartum mothers before and after being given education on newborn umbilical cord care (pretest-posttest). The conclusion of the study was that mothers' knowledge of umbilical cord care increased after being given education. It is recommended for further researchers to conduct further research using other research variables such as attitudes, motivations, perceptions, and others, to complement the existing research results.

Abstract

Pulmonary Tuberculosis is a disease cause an infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis which attacking the lungs. The problem that often appears is Respiratory system disorder that this symptomatically happens with shortness.  Shortness occurs due to an imbalance between oxygen demand and supply, thereby increasing respiratory effort and reducing patient comfort. A non-pharmacological measure to reduce shortness of breath is orthopnea positioning. This therapy aims to increase lung expansion, improve ventilation, and relax the respiratory muscles, thereby helping to reduce Asphyxiate in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. To determine the effectiveness of orthopneic positioning in reducing dyspnea in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Case study design with 3 respondents who were placed in the orthopneic position for 5 minutes with a stopwatch used to measure respiratory rate The results of this study show that the orthopneic position is effective in reducing shortness of breath, as evidenced by Mr. R, who had a respiratory rate of 24 breaths per minute before being placed in the orthopnea position. After being placed in the orthopneic position, his respiratory rate decreased to19 breaths per minute. Mr. K's respiratory rate was 24 breaths per minute before being placed in the orthopneic position and decreased to 20 breaths per minute after being placed in the orthopneic position. Mr. M's respiratory rate was 24 breaths per minute before being placed in the orthopneic position and decreased to 19 breaths per minute after being placed in the orthopneic position

Abstract

Immature permanent teeth with open apices and pulpal necrosis present a significant challenge in endodontic treatment. Apexification procedures have been developed to stimulate the formation of a hard tissue barrier at the apex, thereby allowing adequate obturation. Objective: This case report aims to describe the evaluation of apexification treatment based on radiographic findings. Case Report: An 8-year-old boy accompanied by his mother presented to PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital with a history of a fall one week earlier. The affected tooth had previously received a temporary restoration from another dentist. According to the patient’s mother, medication had been placed in tooth to devitalize the pulp prior to temporary filling. Clinical examination revealed that tooth 11 exhibited a fracture involving approximately half of the crown and extending into the pulp chamber. Discussion: Initial radiographic examination in 2018 indicated that immature teeth have lower structural resistance compared with mature teeth; therefore, endodontic intervention such as apexification is required to establish apical barrier and adequate obturation. The material used for apexification in this case was a combining calcium hydroxide and iodoform. In contrast to the initial stage, radiographic evaluation in 2024 demonstrated that root development had progressed to stage V. According to Cvek’s classification of root development, stage V (Cvek stage V) represents a condition in which root development is fully completed. Conclusion: Based on long-term clinical and radiographic evaluation in this case, apexification treatment proved effective in stimulating the formation of an apical barrier and supporting root maturation in immature permanent teeth.

Abstract

Surgery is a medical procedure performed by opening a part of the body and ending with the closure or suturing of the wound. This procedure often causes anxiety in preoperative patients. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce anxiety is classical music therapy, which helps promote relaxation and supports the healing process. This study aims to determine the effect of classical music therapy on reducing anxiety levels in preoperative patients in the implementation of nursing care. The method used was a case study design with a nursing care approach involving three preoperative patients experiencing anxiety. The intervention consisted of classical music therapy delivered through headphones for 5 minutes and administered twice to each respondent. The results showed that after receiving classical music therapy, the anxiety levels of all three patients decreased from severe anxiety with an average score of 19 to moderate to mild anxiety with scores ranging from 7–13. In addition, symptoms such as worry, restlessness, and tension also appeared to decrease after the intervention. It can be concluded that classical music therapy is effective in reducing anxiety levels in preoperative patients during the nursing care process. Therefore, nurses are expected to apply classical music therapy as one of the interventions for patients experiencing anxiety.
