Abstract

The Independent Curriculum aims to provide flexible, student-centered learning that is oriented toward strengthening character through the Pancasila Student Profile. However, a literature review indicates that its implementation in elementary schools still faces various obstacles. Teachers' understanding of differentiated learning, the P5 project, and authentic assessment is uneven, while limited infrastructure and the complexity of developing teaching materials also hamper its implementation. Furthermore, student readiness and a supportive learning environment also influence the curriculum's effectiveness. These findings emphasize the need to improve teacher competency, ensure equitable distribution of facilities, and collaborate among stakeholders for optimal implementation of the Independent Curriculum. Furthermore, the disparity in the quality of implementation across schools is also a major challenge, particularly in remote areas with limited facilities. Therefore, supportive policies and intensive mentoring for teachers are needed to ensure that this curriculum is effective and provides maximum benefits for students, optimizing character development and 21st-century skills. Overall, the success of the Independent Curriculum depends heavily on solid collaboration between all relevant parties, including teachers, schools, parents, and education policymakers.

Abstract

This qualitative study, using a phenomenological approach, aims to uncover, study, and deeply understand students' perspectives regarding the curriculum transformation for 21st-century learning they experience in elementary schools. The phenomenological approach was used to explore students' direct experiences as the primary subjects in the learning process, thus gaining a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of curriculum change from their perspectives. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with upper-grade students in elementary schools in Jambi City. The results indicate that the curriculum transformation has a significant impact on students' learning styles, particularly through the implementation of project-based learning that integrates the use of digital technology. This learning model encourages students to be more active, creative, and collaborative in completing learning tasks. Furthermore, student-centered learning makes them the primary actors in the learning process, while teachers act as facilitators. This curriculum transformation also helps develop 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum management and teacher teaching strategies on improving student character at SMK Negeri 1 Sangatta Utara. This study was field research with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques used questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The study population was all 230 11th-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Sangatta Utara, with a sample of 115 respondents drawn using Suharsimi Arikunto's formula. Data analysis used multiple linear regression. The results showed that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum management had a significant effect on improving student character by 60.85%, while teacher teaching strategies had a 15.95% effect. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.768 indicates that the two independent variables together contributed 76.8% to student character improvement, while the remaining 23.2% was influenced by factors outside the study. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum management has a more dominant influence than teacher teaching strategies on student character development.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum represents Indonesia’s national education reform aimed at transforming learning paradigms toward a more contextual, flexible, and student-centered approach aligned with the Pancasila Student Profile. One of its key priorities is fostering critical thinking competence from the elementary level. This article aims to critically analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in developing students’ critical thinking skills in Indonesian elementary schools. Employing a conceptual and literature-based approach, this study examines educational policies, theories of critical thinking, and recent research findings (2020–2025). The analysis reveals that the Merdeka Curriculum holds strong potential to enhance critical thinking through differentiated learning, project-based learning, authentic assessment, and the Pancasila Student Profile projects. Nevertheless, its implementation still encounters challenges, particularly regarding teacher competence, infrastructure readiness, and non-reflective learning culture. Therefore, strengthening teacher capacity, reforming assessment systems, and cultivating critical thinking as a school-wide culture are essential to realizing the goals of the Merdeka Curriculum effectively at the elementary education level.

Abstract

Academic stress is one of the main challenges experienced by postgraduate students due to complex academic workloads, such as thesis writing, scientific publications, work demands, and personal roles. This condition can trigger emotional exhaustion, decreased concentration, anxiety, and burnout. This study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to analyze the role of mindfulness as a stress management strategy in college students. The literature analyzed included studies from 2020–2025 that examined the relationship between mindfulness and academic stress, including interventions based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). The study results showed that mindfulness has a significant effect on reducing academic stress, improving emotional regulation, learning focus, sleep quality, and psychological well-being. Mindfulness also helps students build resilience and develop adaptive mindsets in dealing with academic pressure. These findings confirm that mindfulness can be an effective and applicable strategy in supporting the mental health of postgraduate students.

Abstract

. Eco-print is a technique for printing leaf and flower motifs on fabric by utilizing natural materials derived from the surrounding environment. This technique is not only environmentally friendly but also encourages artistic exploration and the sustainable use of natural resources in art education. The method applied in this activity is a project-based learning approach, in which students are actively and collaboratively involved throughout the entire process of artistic creation. The learning stages include the introduction of eco-print concepts, the collection and selection of natural materials, color experimentation, the motif printing process, and the presentation and reflection of the final artworks. The results indicate that students experience improvements in creativity, particularly in imaginative ability, willingness to experiment, problem-solving skills, and aesthetic sensitivity to form and color. In addition, this learning activity contributes to strengthening environmental awareness, care for nature, and the introduction of local wisdom through the use of natural materials. Therefore, the implementation of eco-print and natural dye art has proven to be an effective and innovative learning medium that supports the holistic development of students’ creativity, character, and environmental awareness.

Abstract

Early childhood (0–6 years) is a critical period in human development, often referred to as the golden age, during which all aspects of development, including language and vocabulary, grow rapidly. However, based on preliminary observations at TK Merpati, Simpang Sungai Rengas District, the vocabulary skills of children aged 4–5 years were still relatively low. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of papercraft puppet media in improving the vocabulary skills of children aged 4–5 years at TK Merpati, Simpang Sungai Rengas District. The research employed a classroom action research design conducted in three cycles. The subjects consisted of 17 children aged 4–5 years. Data were collected through observation sheets, and data analysis was carried out by comparing the percentage of children’s vocabulary achievement before and after the implementation of the papercraft puppet media in each cycle. The results indicated a significant improvement in children’s vocabulary skills. In the pre-action stage, children’s achievement was categorized as Not Yet Developed (NYD) with a percentage of 30%. In Cycle I, the percentage increased to 50% (Beginning to Develop). In Cycle II, it further improved to 76% (Developed as Expected). In Cycle III, the results reached 95% (Very Well Developed). These findings demonstrate that papercraft puppet media is effective in enhancing vocabulary development in early childhood.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has triggered a transformation in the teaching and learning process, including in the teaching of Economics at the senior high school level. Social media, which initially served merely as a communication tool, is now utilized as an interactive and easily accessible alternative learning resource. This study aims to describe how social media is used in the Economics learning process at SMA Panca Marga Lamongan and to identify its benefits and challenges. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with purposive sampling, involving one Economics teacher and eleventh-grade social science students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then processed and examined using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña analysis model. The findings show that social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok enhance students’ understanding of economic concepts in a more contextual and visual manner, as well as foster learning independence and participation. However, challenges include difficulties in filtering credible information and the potential for distraction when usage is not well-controlled. Thus, social media can serve as an effective learning resource when supported by strong digital literacy, clear teacher guidance, and proper management of its use.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the difficulties experienced by female students at Tunas Ilmu Islamic Junior High School in learning English. English is an important subject in the curriculum, but some students still show difficulties in understanding and using the language effectively. This study uses a  qualitative descriptive method with observation, interviews and a questionnaire given to students. The initial results of the essay questionnaire show that 50% of students say they like English lessons, while the other 50% experience difficulties in learning. Meanwhile, the results of the multiple-choice questionnaire showed that students experienced three difficulties, namely difficulty reading sentences, understanding vocabulary, and understanding grammatical concepts. Learning difficulties are a problem that prevents students from following lessons as well as other students in general. Learning difficulties are commonly experienced by students. The results of the study show that the main difficulties students face are in speaking and listening skills, which are caused by a lack of vocabulary, low self-confidence, and limited exposure to English outside the classroom. Another contributing factor is the lack of variety in teaching methods. Therefore, this study is expected to serve as a basis for teachers to design more effective learning strategies that are tailored to the needs of students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the cultural construction of independence in Islamic boarding schools through the perspective of educational sociology. The main focus of this study is to explore how social structures, power relations between kyai and santri, and hidden curriculum mechanisms contribute significantly to the formation of santri's independent character. This research is motivated by the discrepancy between national educational goals and the reality of the crisis of independence often found in formal educational institutions. Using descriptive qualitative methods through a literature study and critical synthesis approach, this study examines the phenomenon of independence as a sociological product. The results of the study show that the independence of santri is not merely obedience to formal rules, but rather the result of the formation of internalized habitus through strict daily discipline and the accumulation of cultural capital transmitted by the figure of the kyai. These findings confirm that the charismatic relationship between kyai and santri serves as the main channel for transmitting the values of initiative and responsibility. Furthermore, the hidden curriculum manifested in the daily exemplary behavior of the kyai has proven to be more effective in shaping the autonomy of santri than conventional classroom instruction. The implications of this study confirm that the educational ecosystem model in Islamic boarding schools can serve as a strategic reference for modern educational institutions in overcoming the challenges of character degradation and independence among students in the contemporary era.
