Abstract

This study focusses on the genealogy of the Forum Lingkar Pena and Komunitas Matapena movements, which have produced novel Islam remaja (Islamic youth novels) and novel pop pesantren (pesantren popular novels). Using Bourdieu’s concept of habitus, I analyze the field where Forum Lingkar Pena and Komunitas Matapena discourses are disseminated, particularly among Muslim youth in Indonesia and how Islamic popular culture is represented through these novels and the dynamic of Muslim youth community in struggling for meaning in the Indonesian literary field in general. This research found that establishment of FLP and Komunitas Matapena can be described through three main ideas. Firstly, these communities encountered the massiveness of popular culture by offering a medium that supports identity formation for Muslim youth. Secondly, there is a link between the idealism promoted by Muslim organization movements and the establishment of FLP and Komunitas Matapena, and this link determines their forms and cultural products. Thirdly, they use popular culture, such as magazines and popular novels, as media to spread and preserve their idealism, targeting young people.

This research used qualitative descriptive approach, while the method of collecting the data was observation on the activities of the mubalig and dai who perform religious da’wa activities, both in mosques, langgar, and majlis taklim assemblies held at homes of pilgrims or mubalig house. This research found that, mubalig already using technology and social media for the purposes of their da’wa. The preachers use technology and social media for various purposes of da’wa, communicating with the congregation of recitation, to read references of religious material, as well as as a means to store the propagation material which subsequently submitted during the recitation. The last is to make use of the existing apps in their devices to recall verses or hadiths that happen to be forgotten when delivering lecture materials. The mubalig rate, technology and social media are something positive to use as a medium of preaching communication. Thus, mubalig are not allergic to technology and social media, even some of them become active users in social media. Similarly, in his own devices, there are many applications of the Qur’an and Hadith. Carrying a device is an effective way of learning, carrying the reference of the book, because mubaligh does not have to bring a physically large book when doing preachings to various places and locations. Technology is considered to be able to connect them with the other ustaz, kiai or religious figures in the same or different organizations.

Abstract

This paper explores the veiling issues and the negotiation of piety among women in Komunitas Muslimah Beauty of Detik Forum. This paper examines to what extent this online community discusses hijab as fashion and piety? what the basis of the arguments for negotiating them? and how is piety constructed through commodity by women in that forum? The answers to this question are important to understand because they examine the assumption considering the lack of connection between piety and veiling when both are more materialized in such of commodity fetishism. To do this, I analyze the online discussion within the Komunitas Muslimah Beautiful in detik.com website. The findings of the paper inform both sociological understanding of the rise democracy in terms of the public sphere as well as the negotiation of women in their effort to connect veiling and piety within their online discussion.

In this case, pesantren has taken an important role in the practice of Islamic learning and at the same time as an important subject in the history of islamization in Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to understand the post-New Order political Islam, by taking the case in Tasikmalaya from its historical and reactualization perspective. Maurice Halbwachs and Pierre Nora called the last thing as a memory, which is considered the antithesis of history. In practice, the boundary between history and memory is indeed blurred or obscured. For the analysis in this paper, these two things are positioned differently. The focus of the article is to understand the extent to which democracy works in local cultural values which may conflict with the views of liberal human rights. The case of Tasikmalaya is interesting to put in the context of “democratic communitarianism” and more broadly can be used to see tolerance in Indonesia through the lens of cooperation between universal human rights principles and religious interpretations that are grounded in communal experience.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the cultural symbols and identity politics that occur in the city of Sampit. This is based on several important things that happened in Sampit. Sampit is a heterogeneous and multicultural city and at the same time there were riots between the Dayak and Madura tribes around 2000, which resulted in the emptying and rejection of Madurese residents. At least in the past two decades, Sampit has turned into a city that displays an identity as a Muslim city with the emergence of urban icons built by local elite leaders. It is interesting to track what exactly is behind the elite officials in the city of Sampit in building these identity symbols and how political symbol culture plays a role in the development of the city of Sampit. The analytical tool used in this study is functional sociology where the emphasis of this study is on actors who provide change in society. The results of this study indicate that several values obsess over Cultural Symbol actions in Sampit, including; First, religious values, one of which orientates the cultural symbol policy is that the Sampit community is moved to worship their Lord and minimize criminal acts that used to occur frequently, such as wild speeding, theft and obscene acts. Secondly, art values, symbols used such as the dome and calligraphy of Asmaul Husna and calligraphy of Allah and Muhammad’s writings are expressions of the architectural art values possessed by the Sampit regent which used to beautify the city of Sampit. Third, Political Interest, every policy carried out by an elite certainly cannot be separated from political interests, the Sampit regent is no exception, which in this case is to perpetuate his power, bearing in mind that the regent is in power for two periods untill 2020.

Abstract

This research aims to give the reader a comprehensive view of the concept of Dar al-Harb according to sharia Islamic Law. The first and foremost is to explain some of its terminologies, it defines the concept of Dar al-Harb (state of war) literally and technically. Then it combines the concept of the House of the Covenant and the raising of forms from the terms Dar al-Harb (state of war) and Dar al-Islam (Islamic state). It concludes by mentioning what the house becomes as the house of Islam and vice versa. The research concluded that  - The House of Islam does not turn in any case from the whole situation to the house of Kufr unless proven and verify that most of the inhabitants are infidels or apostates, and showed the provisions of the infidels and went from the country and all the features and rituals of the Islamic religion as occurred in Andalus. At the end, the conclusion drawn from variant views of the scholars and the main findings and recommendations have been given.
