Abstract

This study explores the roles of innovation and perseverance as critical success factors for young entrepreneurs in the fried chicken business through an in-depth case study of Fried Chicken Smile, located in Medan Tembung Subdistrict. The research focuses on how young entrepreneurs are able to survive and grow in a highly competitive culinary market dominated by global brands such as KFC. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with business owners and employees, direct field observations, and documentation analysis. The study is supported by several theoretical perspectives, including Grit Theory, which emphasizes perseverance and passion for long-term goals; Entrepreneurial Behavior Theory, which explains proactive and adaptive business behavior; and Schumpeter’s Innovation Theory, which highlights innovation as a driver of competitive advantage. The findings indicate that business success is influenced by continuous product innovation, particularly through adapting menu flavors to local tastes, maintaining consistent operational quality, and implementing effective digital marketing strategies via social media platforms. In addition, strong social support from family, peers, and local communities plays a significant role in sustaining entrepreneurial motivation. Overall, the study demonstrates that the combination of innovation, persistence, and social capital enhances competitiveness and supports the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These findings provide valuable insights for the development of young entrepreneurship in Indonesia’s dynamic culinary sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of innovation in enhancing the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Medan City. The research employs a qualitative approach through direct interviews with several MSME owners from various business sectors. The results reveal that innovation plays a significant role in strengthening business competitiveness through product development, digital marketing strategies, and improvements in production processes. Product innovation among MSMEs includes changes in design, quality enhancement, and product diversification based on market demand. Meanwhile, marketing innovation is achieved through the utilization of social media and digital platforms to expand market reach and improve customer engagement. However, MSME actors still face challenges such as limited capital, low digital literacy, and lack of access to training and mentorship. Therefore, collaboration between business actors, government, and supporting institutions is essential to build a sustainable innovation ecosystem that strengthens the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital era.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of using BNI Bank’s QRIS in improving transaction convenience and efficiency at the canteen of Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya. The research was conducted by a team led by Ida Ayu Nuh Kartini, S.E., M.M., together with students of the Management Study Program, during November–December 2025. The rapid development of digital banking has encouraged the adoption of QRIS as a standardized non-cash payment system regulated by Bank Indonesia. This study aims to examine the level of QRIS BNI utilization, assess ease of use (application access and QR code scanning), and evaluate transaction efficiency, including time savings, queue reduction, and error minimization. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using a survey method with a five-point Likert scale questionnaire distributed to 36 respondents consisting of students, lecturers, and administrative staff who had used QRIS at the canteen. Primary data were analyzed descriptively using averages and percentages, supported by relevant literature. The results show that QRIS is perceived as highly effective, with scores above 90% for ease of use (95%), transaction speed (92.78%), reduction of change-related issues (97.78%), support for digitalization (97.22%), and security (91.11%). The main limitation identified is dependence on internet connectivity (85%). Overall, respondents strongly support the full implementation of non-cash payment systems at the campus canteen.

Abstract

This study developed the Weton-Based Leadership Model as a leadership framework that integrates Javanese cultural values from the weton system with modern leadership theories, such as transformational, servant, charismatic, and situational leadership. Using a postmodern paradigm with an exploratory qualitative approach, this study utilizes pattern matching and explanation building methods through in-depth interviews with cultural experts and human resource management practitioners, as well as analysis of Javanese cultural documents. The results of the study identify five key components in the model, namely self-awareness, value alignment, situational adaptability, team harmony, and risk governance. These five components interact with each other to form contextual leadership that is in harmony with personal identity, organizational culture, and environmental demands. The practical implications of this study include the use of weton as a reflective instrument in recruitment, personalized leadership development, and the strengthening of an inclusive organizational culture. Further research is recommended to test this model in various industrial contexts through quantitative methods and longitudinal approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of implementing the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system as a form of digitalization on the progress and sustainability of the retail business in the City of Bandung. The method applied in this study is descriptive with a quantitative approach. Data was obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to 30 respondents involved in retail businesses in the Cikutra and Cihaurgeulis Market areas using purposive sampling. The research findings indicate that the use of QRIS has a highly significant positive effect, where 100% of respondents experienced an increase in revenue and attracted the attention of younger customers. Additionally, the registration process and supporting facilities were rated as sufficient by 97% of respondents. However, results indicate that perceptions regarding the security of QRIS transactions still fall into the low category (50%), suggesting concerns about potential cybercrime. Overall, business owners demonstrated a high level of loyalty, with 100% intending to continue using QRIS over the long term.

Abstract

Human resources (HR) are a strategic pillar in determining the success and competitiveness of agribusiness companies in the era of globalization. This study aims to analyze the implementation of training programs, HR development, and performance appraisal systems, as well as formulate strategies to optimize HR management at PT Bio Nusantara Teknologi Bengkulu. The research method uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a simple random sampling technique for 20 respondents (10% of the total 200 employees). Data collection was carried out through structured questionnaires and direct observation, which were then analyzed using the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFAS) matrix, External Factor Evaluation (EFAS), and SWOT matrix analysis. The results show that the training program and performance appraisal have been running very well, where the assessment is carried out periodically and objectively and has a direct impact on increasing employee motivation, responsibility, and work productivity. The evaluation results show an IFAS score of 2.7 (fairly strong) and an EFAS score of 2.6 (fairly adaptive). Based on the SWOT analysis coordinates, the company is in Quadrant I (Strengths-Opportunities/SO Strategies) with a difference between internal and external factors of 0.8 each. The implication of this position is that companies must implement aggressive strategies by leveraging advances in digital technology (such as e-learning) and expanding their external collaboration networks to maintain their competitive advantage in the industry.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the intensity of digital currency use among the people of Dumai City. The development of non-cash payment technologies such as QRIS, e-wallets, and mobile banking has changed the way people conduct daily transactions. This study employed a descriptive quantitative, with data collected through a questionnaire involving 40 respondents, the majority of whom were aged 17–25 and students. The results show that the use of digital currency in Dumai City is quite well known and implemented in daily activities, although it has not completely replaced cash. QRIS is the most widely used application compared to e-wallets and mobile banking. The majority of respondents expressed neutral to positive responses regarding the intensity of use, types of transactions, comparison with cash, location of use, and reasons for using digital currency. Overall, digital currency has been accepted as a practical and efficient payment alternative, but there is still a need for increased use and equal access to digital payment systems so that the digital payment system can be utilized more optimally.
