Abstract

The migration from analog to digital television or analog switch-off (ASO) represents a solution to overcome various limitations of analog systems. Digital television offers multicasting capabilities, enabling multiple transmission signals through a single channel, thereby addressing spectrum constraints faced by analog television. This study explores communication strategies during the initial phase of analog switch-off in Bekasi City. Theoretical frameworks like diffusion of innovations highlight the importance of communication in disseminating information and facilitating technology adoption. This research uses qualitative approaches to investigate community responses and satisfaction with digital television. Findings indicate that direct information from local officials and media channels significantly influences public readiness and acceptance of digital television. The study aligns with diffusion theory stages, illustrating how knowledge acquisition, persuasion, decision-making, implementation, and confirmation phases influence community adoption. Effective communication, supported by clear regulations and governmental policies, accelerates technology adoption and enhances user satisfaction. Insights from this study underscore the importance of proactive government support and targeted communication strategies in successful ASO implementation. The findings contribute to understanding how effective communication can facilitate technology transitions and improve broadcast quality and user experience in digital television.

The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, literature study and documentation. The paradigm in this research is constructivism. The results of this research are that the Instagram account @youngontop maximizes the features on Instagram in conveying information to the younger generation. Information about activities that the younger generation can take part in is conveyed creatively with photo illustrations, videos and also the use of language that is relevant to the younger generation. The choice of language is also very adapted to the trends of the younger generation in the hope that it will be interesting in conveying information about activities. The Instagram account @youngontop also has a message personalization strategy in the form of research to find out the preferences and needs of followers.

Abstract

This research is based on phenomena observed by the researchers where families with different ethnic backgrounds maintain harmony within the family and community despite their diverse ethnicities. Therefore, this research analyzed the factors, forms, and impacts of intercultural communication in interethnic families in Pagutan Barat Village, Mataram City. The method used is qualitative, employing non-participant observation for data collection. Primary data sources include three married couples, community leaders, neighborhood heads, and religious figures, gathered through semi-structured interviews and documentation. Secondary data sources include books, journals, and photographs. The analysis involves three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study utilizes Communication Accommodation Theory and Interpersonal Communication Theory to analyze the research questions. The results indicate that love and family are the main factors leading to interethnic marriages. The forms of communication used include verbal and non-verbal communication, intrapersonal communication, and interpersonal communication. The positive impacts of intercultural communication in interethnic families are the integration of values and traditions, uniting differences through joint activities, conflict resolution, and space management, the use of a common language, and a broader community. However, the negative impacts include potential internal conflicts arising from differences in religious symbols, rituals, and space arrangements.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the framing techniques of Antaranews.com and Detik.com media in reporting on Rohingya refugees on December 11 2023. This is interesting because the two media come from different ownership; Antaranews.com is managed by the Antara National News Agency (LKBN Antara), which is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) in the news agency sector, while Detik.com is under the private company PT Trans Digital Media. The author uses the framing analysis model of Zhong Dang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki to divide this news frame into 4 structural dimensions, namely syntax, script, thematic and rhetorical. The results of the research show that the framing of news about the rejection of Rohingya refugees in Aceh on December 11 2023 written by Antaranews.com was more balanced than Detik.com in presenting the news. The selection of quotes and photos included makes the reporting construction carried out by Antaranews.com try to direct public opinion to see from both sides, the Rohingya refugees and the residents of Ladong Aceh Besar. Meanwhile, Detik.com has not fulfilled the 5W+1H principle and does not write news from both sides of the point of view.

Abstract

The print media industry is experiencing a decline in circulation. One of the causes is advances in communication technology or digitization. The aim of this research is to describe how Harian Jogja faces the challenges of media digitization. This research uses the media Ecology theory initiated by McLuhan to help broadly describe the phenomena that occur. The method used refers to phenomenology which is used as an analytical tool. The results of this research show that Harian Jogja is trying to create a new alternative to enable their agency or company to continue to survive in any conditions and situations. The Harian Jogja print media tries to shift its marketing strategy to non-print form. The Harian Jogja creates a strategy in presenting news, namely regional news and also an ABC reporting strategy, namely accurate, actual, brief, balanced, clear and complete.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the dual role of social media algorithms in conflict formation and resolution. Using a systematic literature review method, this research analyses how algorithms can amplify polarization and spread misinformation, as well as their potential to be leveraged in mitigating conflict and promoting constructive dialogue. The results show that algorithms designed to maximise user engagement often contribute to conflict escalation through the formation of "filter bubbles" and the spread of misinformation. However, recent research has also revealed the potential of algorithms, if designed with ethical and social principles in mind, to be instrumental in early conflict detection and the promotion of dialogue across groups. This study highlights the implications of these findings for technology companies, policymakers, and civil society, and emphasises the need for an interdisciplinary approach, proactive regulation, and increased digital literacy in addressing algorithm challenges. In conclusion, social media algorithms are flexible tools, and their impact depends on the values, principles, and goals embedded in their design. A holistic and collaborative approach is needed to harness the potential of algorithms in mitigating conflict while minimising their role in deepening social divisions.
