Abstract

Abstract

Household organic waste, particularly food waste, can cause environmental pollution if not properly managed. This community service program in Tlingsing Village, Cawas District, Klaten Regency, aimed to improve PKK members’ knowledge of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation as an alternative method for managing organic waste. The program consisted of coordination with the village government, independent maggot cultivation by the KKN team at the community service post as a technical trial, and training for 45 PKK members involving material delivery, demonstrations, feeding practices, discussions, and distribution of maggot starter cultures. Evaluation was conducted descriptively and qualitatively through participatory observation. The results indicated improved participants’ understanding of waste bioconversion, cultivation techniques, the use of maggots as an alternative feed, frass as organic fertilizer, and the economic potential of maggot cultivation. Participants’ enthusiasm also indicated their potential to independently practice maggot cultivation at home. The sequential experiential learning model, involving facilitator trials before community training, offers a promising approach for similar community service programs.. Keywords: Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots, organic waste, Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK), bioconversion, community service.

Abstract

Inventory management is an essential aspect of supporting MSME operations. Little Grande Craft Shop, an MSME selling knitting supplies, still manages stock records and monitoring manually, which may cause recording errors, delayed updates, and less effective inventory control. An inventory information system using Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 was developed to support more effective and integrated management. The method included observation, interviews, system analysis, database and interface design using ERD and HIPO, and system implementation. The system provides login, product management, incoming and outgoing goods recording, sales transactions, automatic stock calculation, and inventory and sales reports. Implementation made inventory management more structured, improved stock information accuracy, and supported more efficient reporting.

Abstract

A lack of early environmental awareness is a primary contributing factor to flood disasters caused by waste accumulation in drainage systems. This community service project aimed to enhance flood disaster mitigation awareness and preparedness among 25–30 5th and 6th-grade students at MI Jamiatul Islamiyah. The implementation method utilized an interactive educational approach, incorporating instructional film screenings, material presentations on mitigation, disaster simulations, interactive quizzes, and Q&A sessions. Educational topics included the dangers of plastic waste, early warning signs of flooding, preventive behaviors, and safe self-evacuation procedures. The outcome demonstrated a significant improvement in students' understanding of waste management and safety measures during flood events. This activity proves that early disaster education and simulations effectively foster environmental responsibility and build school community resilience against disaster risks.

Abstract

The dependence of vegetable farmers in Muara Danau Village on chemical fertilizers is quite high, while the animal waste owned by almost all residents is just left to pile up around the pens. This community service activity aims to provide training to vegetable farmer groups and local livestock farmers on how to make liquid organic fertilizer from a mix of cow, goat, and chicken manure using a participatory approach. This includes assessing needs, socialization, hands-on training, guidance at demonstration plots, and evaluation. The liquid organic fertilizer is made by adding rice washing water, palm sugar or molasses, and the EM4 bioactivator, then fermenting it anaerobically for two to three weeks. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding compared to the pre-test and post-test scores, especially regarding the amount of ingredients and product maturity indicators.Trials on demonstration plots of water spinach and mustard greens also showed that plant growth and soil conditions were better in plots given liquid organic fertilizer compared to control plots given chemical fertilizer. Some challenges faced during implementation included limited fermentation containers, the community’s old habits that hadn’t fully adapted yet, and weather impacts affecting fermentation consistency. This activity proves that livestock waste can be utilized to make quality liquid organic fertilizer and has the potential to be developed into a farmer group business.

Abstract

Muara Danau Village has numerous vacant plots surrounding residents’ homes that have historically been left to grow wild or used only sporadically without productive management, even though residents still largely rely on purchasing vegetables to meet their daily needs. This Community Service Program (KKN) aimed to encourage residents to utilize these vacant plots for vegetable cultivation through a participatory approach ranging from land inventory and outreach to practical planting training and guidance on demonstration plots. Activities were conducted across three types of land settings reflecting local conditions: semi-shaded home gardens, open land, and limited spaces utilizing polybags; trial crops included water spinach (kangkung), mustard greens (sawi), and bird’s-eye chili (cabai rawit). Results indicated a significant improvement in residents’ understanding of vegetable cultivation techniques and their habits regarding the recording of costs and yields compared to pre-training levels. Participants subsequently formed small groups to manage communal gardens and began initiating sales of their produce to local village shops and via social media. Despite facing challenges such as water scarcity during the dry season and limited market reach, the program successfully fostered an awareness among residents that vacant land around their homes could serve as both a food source and a means of generating additional family income.

Abstract

Women and children require protection from violence, discrimination, exploitation, and rights violations. This community service program aimed to improve Sendawar Village residents’ understanding of women’s and children’s rights, forms of violence, protection services, reporting mechanisms, and community roles in creating a safe environment. The program was conducted on July 20, 2026, at the Sendawar Village Office through a partnership involving Universitas Bengkulu students, the village government, and the Seluma Regency service unit for women and child protection. The activity involved 61 participants from village institutions, schools, youth groups, and the community. The stages included a pretest, material presentation, interactive discussion, question-and-answer session, and posttest using the same instrument. Descriptive analysis showed that the mean score increased from 40 to 80, representing an absolute gain of 40 points and a relative increase of 100 percent. The findings indicate improved short-term knowledge. Follow-up assistance and evaluation are needed to assess behavioral change and the sustainability of safe spaces.

Abstract

Literacy is essential for helping children understand information and build learning habits, yet accessible reading facilities remain needed at the community level. Ngerangan Village, Bayat District, Klaten Regency, has a reading corner whose potential remained underutilized due to limited book collections and poor spatial arrangement. This community service activity aimed to optimize the reading corner through room renovation, collection development, and its use for tutoring activities, targeting 13 children aged 7–13. The program included socialization, room renovation, book donation drives, and book organization, followed by routine tutoring and a closing competition used to collect satisfaction data. Descriptive quantitative analysis showed an overall satisfaction level of 96.5%, categorized as very satisfied, with facility condition rated highest (98.6%) and collection completeness needing further improvement (92.8%). These results confirm that reading corner revitalization effectively supports community literacy, provided book collections continue to be expanded.

Abstract

The Student Community Service Program (KKN) is a form of community service undertaken by students to directly apply their academic knowledge, skills, and experience within a community setting. KKN activities aim not only to assist the community in addressing various challenges but also to provide students with an opportunity to identify and develop a region's local potential. The KKN program in Banjarsari Village, Enggano Island (North Bengkulu Regency), was conducted to identify the marine tourism potential of Batu Lobang a significant natural asset. Batu Lobang features unique natural characteristics, specifically a natural rock formation resembling a gateway with a central opening. Beyond its distinctive rock structure, the area boasts a lagoon with clear water and a pristine natural landscape. The methodology employed for this initiative involved direct observation via field visits, utilizing small boats for transportation to the site. During the activity, students collaborated with local residents who served as boat operators, assisting with the journey to the Batu Lobang area.
