Abstract

The main issue explored in this research is how the dating system in the bilang-bilang tradition is understood from the perspective of ilm falak (Islamic astronomy), focusing on the local wisdom of the community in North Luwu Regency. This central issue is further examined through two main research questions: (1) How are good and bad days determined in the bilang-bilang tradition in North Luwu Regency? and (2) What is the relationship between the local wisdom in the bilang-bilang tradition and the principles of ilm falak in determining dates? This research is qualitative in nature, using both anthropological and astronomical approaches. Data collection methods include interviews, documentation, and observation. The techniques for data processing and analysis are carried out in three stages: data identification, data reduction, and editing. The results of the study reveal two key findings. First, the bilang-bilang tradition serves as a traditional calendar system used to determine auspicious and inauspicious times for conducting various significant activities, such as weddings, moving houses, starting new jobs, and even for daily routines. The determination of time in this tradition involves a combination of days of the week, the moon's position, and specific hours, a system known as patika. Second, this tradition fully aligns with religious teachings, as it does not contain elements of polytheism, does not lead to the worship of entities other than God, and does not replace obligatory religious practices. Therefore, the tradition should not be regarded as a deviation, but rather as a form of local wisdom that remains consistent with religious principles. The implications of this research are twofold. First, the bilang-bilang tradition can serve as a contextual learning resource in education and as a consideration for local governments in formulating policies for cultural preservation and the development of culture-based tourism. Second, the tradition has the potential to serve as a bridge between culture and religious teachings, as well as an educational tool to introduce the concept of Islamic astronomy in a contextual and relevant way for today's generation.

Abstract

Determining the direction of the Qibla is one of the valid requirements for performing prayers, especially for Muslims who perform them under normal conditions. However, under certain conditions, such as when traveling by vehicle—whether on land, sea, or air—the ability to face the Qibla correctly often encounters obstacles. This study raises two research questions: how to determine the direction of the Qibla on a vehicle from a fiqh perspective and what inhibiting factors exist in determining the direction of the Qibla on a vehicle. The research method used is qualitative with library research. Data were obtained from primary sources such as the Qur'an and hadith, as well as secondary data sources such as books, journals, and scientific articles. The approaches used are the sharia approach and the philosophical approach. The data collection method used is collecting, reading, and analyzing various written sources related to the research topic. The results of the study show that the method used in determining the direction of the Qibla on a vehicle uses 2 methods, namely, a method with the help of nature such as sunrise and sunset, and using the shadow of an object while the second method, using modern tools such as Global Positioning System (GPS), compass, google earth. Inhibiting factors in determining the direction of the Qibla such as the lack of certainty of accuracy in the precision of the Qibla direction, dependence on technological tools without sharia references, misinterpretation of lay people, not in accordance with the classical hisab-rukyat tradition, signal interference and dependence on technology, and so on. The implications of this study are expected to be a treasure of knowledge and continue to maintain our obligations as Muslims, namely the five daily prayers wherever we are, especially during long journeys.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of understanding prayer times not only based on digital schedules or hisab, but also through a visual approach to natural signs, one of which is through the appearance of constellations. Orion, as a very prominent and easily recognized constellation, was chosen in this study to analyze its potential as an indicator of Isha prayer time. Based on this background, the main problem in this study is "How to Analyze the Utilization of the Orion Constellation as an Astronomical Indicator in Determining Isha Prayer Time from the Perspective of Astronomy". This study raises two problem formulations, namely how to analyze the Orion constellation as a reference in determining Isha prayer time, and how to correlate the Syafaq Ahmar phenomenon with the Orion constellation in determining Isha prayer time according to Astronomy. The purpose of this study is to find out how to analyze the Orion constellation in determining the initial time of Iysa, and to find out the relationship between the Syafaq Ahmar phenomenon and the Orion constellation in determining Isha prayer time according to Astronomy. The type of research used is a qualitative descriptive approach in the form of literature. Data were obtained through analysis of classical and contemporary literary sources, and supported by visual sky simulations using Stellarium software. The first research result shows that the constellation of Orion, specifically the star Mintaka, which appears when the Sun is at an angle of -18° and Syafaq Ahmar disappears, shows a consistent visual connection with the beginning of Isha prayer time. Therefore, it can be used as a supporting astronomical indicator in an educational context and for traditional observations according to Astronomy. Second, the correlation between the disappearance of Syafaq Ahmar and the appearance of the constellation Orion can be confirmed by sky observations from an Astronomy perspective, so both can be used as educational indicators and alternative nighttime visualizations, especially in areas with limited astronomical technology. The implications of this research, in an observational approach through visualization of the Orion constellation, can be an educational alternative in determining Isha prayer times, especially in areas with limited technology, and encourage the integration of the hisab method and sky observation in the development of Astronomy.

Abstract

The main problem of this research is how is the law of astrophotography in rukyatul hilal using the contemporary fiqh approach? The main problem is then broken down into several sub-problems or research questions, namely: 1) What is the mechanism of Astrophotography in Rukyatul hilal?, 2) What are the views of classical and contemporary Ulama in Rukyatul Hilal. This type of research is classified as qualitative. The author specifically uses a sharia and astronomical approach. The data sources used are: primary data comes directly from data sources that are collected and related to the object of research while secondary data comes from scientific works related to the object of the problem being studied, to analyze the data used qualitative analysis techniques. The results of this study show differences of opinion regarding the views of classical and contemporary scholars. The views of classical scholars in the mazhab of fiqh such as the Syafi'i school of thought, for example Imam Nawawi in Al-Majmu' emphasized that Rukyatul Hilal is done with the eyes, not through or other tools. In the Syafi'i school of thought, one just person is enough to state that he has seen the hilal to determine the beginning of the Hijri month. The views of contemporary scholars such as Ahmad Rofiq added that Rukyatul Hilal is an instrument to implement the command to see the hilal based on the rukyat hadith. In order for someone to see the hilal, binoculars or other technology are used to reduce obstacles or difficulties. The implications of this study are that every study is expected to contribute to the problems studied and can be recommended to related parties for development. The presence of this article is expected to the government to provide a container or study related to the law of astrophotography in rukyatul hilal with a contemporary fiqh approach. In addition, it is expected that the full role of the younger generation will continue to study various fiqh studies related to matters related to worship.

Abstract

The Qibla is the direction to the house that Muslims need to pay attention to, because it is an obligation and a legitimate requirement in the practice of worship and the necessity to confront the body in its direction. Thus, over time, various methods of determination were born to make it easier for Muslims about where the Qibla is headed. This study further reviews the accuracy of rubu mujayyab refers to the classic method of the taqribul maqshad guidebook in the current era by using TPU Tombo-Tombolo coordinate data. This research is field-based, with Syar'i, sociological and astronomical approaches. Primary Data obtained from observations through the process of calibrating the direction of the Qibla. The results of this study indicate that the method of Qibla direction using rubu mujayyab refers to taqribul maqshad is fairly complicated for beginners when viewed from the past era, but in the present era is quite practical in the understanding by the public because latitude and longitude do not need to be calculated manually. after the measurement using TPU Tombo-Tombolo coordinate point produces Qibla azimuth with rubu mujayyab on taqribul maqshad which is 289° while kotemporer-based sun compass shows 292° so that the difference is 3°. The difference produced by the method of taqribul maqshad is also erratic and can change if using the coordinate data of other areas, this can happen because the calculation is based on the classical hisab Hakiki bi-al taqribi (approximately). The implications of this study hope to contribute to the educational understanding of determining the direction of Qibla to the surrounding community, both classical and modern that they can easily understand, it is also expected that students in the field of astronomy are not too inclined to modern tools, so that classical tools are not drowned by the times because they have an important history in the development of astronomy and are the legacy of muslim scientists who can still be used as scientific isnaad.

Abstract

The usefulness of the Global Islamic Calendar from the Hifdzu Ad-din Perspective of Astronomy is examined in this thesis. The purpose of this study is to (1) determine the global Islamic calendar in Hifdzu ad-din from an astronomical standpoint. This study is quantitative in nature. The researcher employed the astronomical and shar'I approaches in this investigation. The primary data source used in this study was the Qur'an, books, journals, and other sources mentioned in the literature. The existence of organizations or nations that support their separate ijtihad serves as evidence that the research findings about the process of implementing the worldwide Islamic calendar are ineffective. One example is the State of Indonesia. The Indonesian state only imposes matla, only limited to territorial areas, not for all Muslims in the world. The implications for research from the application of the global Islamic calendar are divided into 2, namely negative and positive impacts. The positive impact of the implementation of the global Islamic calendar is that it can unite Muslims around the world in an integrated and integrated time. Meanwhile, the negative impact if the global Islamic calendar is not applied globally is that there is a classic problem related to the still strong and dominant understanding of local rukyat in each country, even groups in one country want to carry out rukyat in their respective places without caring about rukyat in other countries. In addition, the rejection of hisab also still colors the discourse of determining the beginning of the month, especially in the context of the global Islamic calendar. Furthermore, each country feels comfortable and there is no problem with its own methods and concepts, no matter how different there are with other countries that even the difference reaches a few days. Abstract

Determining the direction of the Qibla is an important aspect in the implementation of Islamic worship, both in prayer and in burial. Mistakes in determining the direction of the Qibla, especially in burials, can affect the solemnity and validity of worship procedures. In Gowa Regency, there are still a number of graves that do not face the Qibla correctly. This study aims to examine the factors causing the wrong direction of the Qibla of graves and to analyze the role of the Ministry of Religion of Gowa Regency in dealing with this problem. This type of research is field research with a qualitative approach, which is carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. In addition, a sharia approach is used because it is related to Islamic law, as well as a falaky approach based on Islamic astronomy. The results of the study indicate that the wrong direction of the Qibla of graves is caused by limited measuring instruments, lack of public understanding of the importance of the correct direction of the Qibla, and geographical conditions that make measurement difficult. The Ministry of Religious Affairs of Gowa Regency has taken strategic steps such as socialization, re-measurement using the falakiyah method, and the use of modern technology to determine the direction of the qibla accurately. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of increasing public awareness of the direction of the qibla and the need for active involvement of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in standardizing the direction of the qibla in cemeteries. These efforts can be strengthened through ongoing counseling and the application of measuring instruments based on falakiyah technology Keywords: Qibla Direction, Ministry of Religion, Cemetery

Abstract

ABSTRACT Determining the beginning of the lunar month is crucial for Muslims, not only for religious observances such as fasting during Ramadan and the Hajj pilgrimage, but also for demonstrating the relationship between Islamic law and science. The crescent moon, as a marker of the beginning of the month, has been a key area of study since the Middle Ages, when Islamic astronomy developed rapidly. This research addresses two sub-questions: the history of the concept of crescent moon visibility in the Middle Ages, and the methods of Muslim scientists and their implications for determining the beginning of the month in the Hijri calendar. This study aims to analyze the conceptual and methodological construction of crescent moon visibility in the works of medieval Muslim astronomers and examine its relevance to the theory of determining the beginning of the Hijri month in contemporary astronomical studies. This study uses a library research approach. Data are collected from classical and modern literature, then analyzed using historical, sharia, scientific, and philosophical approaches to explain the integration between empirical and normative aspects in determining the beginning of the Hijri month. This study finds that medieval Muslim scientists, such as Al-Battani, Al-Biruni, and Nashiruddin al-Tusi, have developed a systematic method of crescent moon observation by combining direct observation and mathematical calculations. The concept of imkanur rukyat, along with astronomical parameters such as lunar height, elongation, and age, form the basis for crescent moon visibility criteria. The implication of this research is that the thinking of medieval Muslim astronomers remains relevant to the development of modern astronomy. Their integration of sharia and astronomical aspects can serve as a foundation for refining methods for determining the beginning of the Hijri month.
