Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the implementation of astrophotography using the ZWO Seestar S50 with nebula objects in the development of Astronomy learning. The sub-questions examined include: (1) the implementation of astrophotography using the ZWO Seestar S50 with nebula objects in Astronomy learning, and (2) the role of nebulae as astrophotography subjects in supporting the development of Astronomy learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data was obtained through direct observation of nebula objects using the ZWO Seestar S50 and documentation of the observation results. The collected data were then analyzed descriptively through the stages of data collection, processing, and interpretation. Research results show that the implementation of astrophotography using the ZWO Seestar S50 in astronomy learning is carried out through stages of instrument introduction, observation preparation, image capturing, nebula image processing, and the use of observation results as learning media. In addition, nebulae serve as astrophotography study objects that support the development of astronomy learning because they can visualize astronomical phenomena in a tangible way and strengthen the integration between science and Islamic values. The implications of this research indicate that the use of smart telescope-based astrophotography can be an innovation in astronomy learning. Keywords: Astrophotography, Nebula, ZWO Seestar S50

Abstract

Abstract The determination of crescent moon (hilal) observation sites is influenced not only by astronomical parameters but also by geographical aspects, particularly regional elevation conditions and the openness of the western horizon. This study aims to address the questions of how the potential zoning for hilal observation can be determined based on the elevation data of Makassar City and how the visibility characteristics of the western horizon from the rooftop of GTC Mall Makassar can be analyzed using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. This research employs a descriptive method with a quantitative approach based on spatial analysis using Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, administrative boundary data from the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), and the coordinate points of the rooftop of GTC Mall Makassar. The data were processed using ArcGIS through the stages of DEM extraction, elevation classification, spatial data overlay, and digital map visualization. The results indicate that Makassar City has an elevation range from -42 meters to 71 meters, which is classified into three zones: low elevation (-42–4 meters), medium elevation (4–12 meters), and high elevation (12–71 meters). Spatial analysis also reveals that the rooftop of GTC Mall Makassar is located within the low to medium elevation zones but has the potential to serve as a hilal observation site due to its geographical position in a coastal area, the openness of its western horizon directly facing the Makassar Strait, minimal topographical obstructions, and the additional observational height provided by the rooftop. Elevation is therefore not the sole factor in determining the potential of a hilal observation site but should be integrated with the openness of the western horizon and the characteristics of the observation location. The implications of this study indicate that the utilization of Geographic Information Systems can serve as a scientific, data driven approach to support the evaluation and selection of rukyat hilal observation sites in the future. Abstract

Abstract The main problem in this study is how the role of the Ministry of Religion of Bima Regency in determining standards and validating the direction of the qibla in Lambu District, Bima Regency. From the main problem, it is divided into 2 (two) problem formulations, namely 1) How is the function of the Ministry of Religion of Bima Regency in determining or validating the direction of the qibla in Lambu District, 2) How are the obstacles and challenges faced by the Ministry of Religion of Bima Regency in the process of validating the direction of the qibla in Lambu District. The type of research used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of field research. Data was collected through, observation, interviews and documentation with information from the Ministry of Religion of Bima Regency, the Religious Affairs Office of Lambu District, and mosque or prayer room administrators. Data analysis is carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that, 1) the role of the Ministry of Religion in validating the direction of the qibla needs to be strengthened through increased socialization and an active approach to the community, considering that there is still a low demand for measurement and trust in the doctrinal method. 2) It is necessary to improve the quality of human resources and provide more adequate facilities and infrastructure to overcome technical obstacles in the field. This research implies the need to increase public awareness of the importance of determining the direction of the qibla scientifically and strengthening the proactive role of the Ministry of Religion of Bima Regency through socialization, mentoring, capacity building of human resources in the field of astronomy, and the provision of supporting facilities for measuring the direction of the qibla Keywords: Qibla Direction, Role of the Ministry of Religion, Standards and Validation.

Abstract

Abstrack This study addresses the recurring issue of differing determinations regarding the start of the Hijri month across Muslim nations, a matter that impacts the collective observance of acts of worship. The central issue concerns how the concept of a Unified Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) is understood from the perspectives of *ilm falak* (Islamic astronomy) and *fiqh* (Islamic jurisprudence). Two sub-issues are formulated from this core problem: 1) the astronomical and normative *fiqh* foundations underpinning the KHGT concept; and 2) a comparative analysis of the arguments for and against the implementation of the KHGT from an astronomical perspective. These problem formulations serve as a basis for viewing the KHGT not merely as a technical astronomical topic, but also as a religious discourse touching upon dimensions of authority, methodology, and the unity of the Muslim community (*ummah*). This qualitative study employs normative-analytical and comparative approaches. Data were gathered through a literature review covering works on Islamic astronomy, classical and contemporary *fiqh* texts, and academic documents discussing the global Islamic calendar. The analysis examines astronomical foundations—specifically modern *hisab* (astronomical calculation) and crescent moon (*hilal*) visibility criteria—and evaluates them within the framework of Qur’anic evidence, *hadith*, and scholarly views to assess their normative relevance in a contemporary context. The study yields two primary findings. 1) Astronomically, the KHGT is built upon the precision of modern *hisab* calculations, enabling the creation of a global, planned, and predictable Hijri calendar; from a *fiqh* perspective, the concept relies on *ijtihad* (independent legal reasoning) that considers *maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah* (the objectives of Islamic law) and the welfare of the *ummah* in the context of globalization. 2) The divergence between proponents and opponents of the KHGT lies primarily in methodology and approach rather than in the sources of law employed. Proponents emphasize the urgency of calendar unification as a symbol of global unity and the advancement of Islamic civilization, whereas opponents stress the importance of normative caution, the preservation of the *rukyat* (visual sighting) tradition, and the recognition of local authority. The implications of this research suggest that the implementation of KHGT holds potential for development into a more coordinated Islamic calendar system, provided it is established through inclusive scholarly dialogue and cross-national collective *ijtihad*. An integrative approach combining *hisab* (astronomical calculation) and *rukyat* (visual sighting) offers a realistic model for bridging differences, thereby enabling the goal of Muslim unity to be realized without disregarding the rich *fiqh* (Islamic jurisprudence) traditions deeply rooted in Islamic history. Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the behavior of Generation Z in choosing prayer time schedule applications based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), focusing on the influence of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on usage intentions, as well as how usage frequency strengthens these intentions. A quantitative method with a survey design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 Generation Z respondents in Makassar City using purposive sampling techniques. The instrument was tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The results show that: 1) Attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control simultaneously have a significant effect on Generation Z's intentions to choose prayer time schedule applications (F=0.000; R²=54.1%). Partially, subjective norms (p=0.000) and perceived behavioral control (p=0.000) have significant effects, while attitudes (p=0.923) do not. The most widely used applications are Al-Qur'an Indonesia (45%) and Muslim Pro (42%) because they are considered easy to use, have complete features, and attractive displays. 2) The frequency of application use plays a role in strengthening intentions; the more frequently the application is used (42% of respondents open it 2-3 times/week), the more habits and trust are formed, reinforcing positive attitudes and perceived behavioral control, thereby increasing the intention to continue using the application. This study confirms that TPB can explain Generation Z's intentions in choosing religious applications and recommends that application developers enhance ease of use and attractive features. Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze the impact of light pollution on determining the start of the *Subuh* (dawn) prayer time in Bulukumba Regency using a Sky Quality Meter (SQM). The research focuses on light pollution levels based on SQM measurements and their influence on the accuracy of determining the onset of *Subuh*. A qualitative method employing a field research approach was used. Primary data were obtained through direct measurements using an SQM, while secondary data were derived from books, journals, and various supporting references. Observation and documentation techniques were utilized to supplement the research data. The results indicate that: (1) observations using the Sky Quality Meter (SQM) at Panrangluhu Beach, Bulukumba Regency, reveal good sky quality with low levels of light pollution. The consistently recorded shift in sky magnitude values transitioning from darkness to brightness as sunrise approaches reflects the natural emergence of *fajr ṣādiq* (true dawn), thereby supporting a more objective determination of the *Subuh* start time; and (2) an analysis of the SQM value fluctuation graph from March 14–16, 2026, shows a distinct inflection point coinciding with the onset of dawn. Sky conditions with minimal light pollution allow for the detection of the *Subuh* start time based on astronomical parameters such as changes in sky brightness and the Sun's position or altitude angle with a higher degree of accuracy. Abstract

Abstract Changes in the qibla direction based on the results of scientific measurements often lead to differences in perspectives and social conflicts within the community, particularly when they are not accompanied by adequate communication and socialization. This study aims to analyze the community's responses, the factors contributing to social conflict, and the roles of local government, religious leaders, and mosque administrators in resolving conflicts arising from changes in the qibla direction in Tonrorita Village, Biringbulu District, Gowa Regency. This study employed a qualitative method with a normative-sharia approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the community's responses to the change in qibla direction in Tonrorita Village were divided into three groups: those who opposed, supported, and remained neutral. The opposing group maintained the previous qibla direction because it was considered a legacy of earlier religious scholars and expressed concerns that the change would incur costs and reduce worshippers' comfort. The supporting group viewed the adjustment based on scientific measurements as an effort to improve the quality of worship, which could be implemented by adjusting the prayer row positions without altering the mosque building. Meanwhile, the neutral group chose to follow the majority decision in order to maintain harmony and social relations within the community. The conflict was triggered by the results of the qibla direction measurement conducted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, insufficient socialization, differences in understanding between traditional and scientific approaches, and the reluctance of some community members to accept differing opinions. Efforts by the local government, religious leaders, and mosque administrators through deliberations have not yet resulted in an agreement accepted by all parties. Therefore, conflict resolution requires open communication, effective socialization, persuasive approaches, and the involvement of the entire community to foster mutual understanding and harmony. The implication of this study is that changes in the qibla direction require a participatory, communicative, and persuasive approach. Therefore, coordination, education, and continuous socialization need to be strengthened to minimize conflict and maintain social harmony within the community.
