Abstract

Drought severely impacts livestock activities as it becomes increasingly difficult to find green feed for cattle. The hot weather causes the food stock to dry and makes it impossible for cattle to eat. The damage to the cattle food supplies exacerbates this because of termites, especially dry straw. This condition makes the Sedyo Mulyo farmer group worried about the sustainability of cattle food stock. They usually easily get the food stock only from their neighborhood, but because of extreme weather, they have to look for it in areas far from home. Sometimes they also have to buy it if the stock is empty. In response to this problem, it is necessary to preserve cattle food stock when conditions are abundant and use it during the dry season. Cattle food stock preservation is one way to support the conservation of food stock programs. Many methods can be used to preserve cattle food stock today, and the silage method is one of the best of it. Silage is a feed preservation technique with a fermentation process. The purpose of silage is to maintain and reduce the loss of nutrients for future use. This community service program will provide knowledge and training in making this method for cattle food conservation. It is carried out by sharing knowledge sessions and practicing to make silage from greenery and rice straw. The results showed that the Sedyo Mulyo group members had a high understanding of preparing and making silage independently.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke is one of the causes of air pollution which can have adverse health effects. The number of smokers in Indonesia has increased in the last 10 years, thus the high prevalence of smoking harms people's health. One of the significant impacts on thehuman body is on thecardiovascular system, i.e, increasing blood pressure. Data from the East Simeulue Health Service 2023 recorded that the number of people experiencing hypertension reached 1,344 people. The high prevalence of hypertension in the East Simeulue sub-district is in line with the high prevalence of people who smoke in this area. Therefore, this community service activity aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of the inhabitants of Amiria Bahagia Village, East Simeulue District regarding the impact of smoking on health and incidences of hypertension. This activity was divided into two sessions: a health socialization and a blood pressure examination. The result from the health examinations found that for hypertension 31 (34,10%) respondents and non-hypertension 60 (65,90%) respondents out of the total 91 respondents. Of the smoking status, there are 52 (57,10%) respondents were smokers and 39 (42,90%) respondents were non-smokers. It is hoped that the results of this activity will increase public knowledge regarding the negative effects of smoking and risk factors for hypertension in the population of East Simeulue sub-district. The knowledge conveyed can contribute to improve the quality of public health and reduce the incidences of hypertension in the community.

Abstract

Luthu Lamweu Village, located in Aceh Besar Regency, has abundant natural resources, including a waterfall tourist attraction and locally processed products such as Janeng flour, asam sunti (starfruit seasoning), and handicrafts made from coconut leaves. Although the tourist attraction is beginning to draw visitors, access to the site and supporting infrastructure remains limited. This community service program aims to further assess the villages potential for developing as a tourist destination by leveraging its natural and human resources. The strategic approach involves conducting observations and facilitating focus group discussions with local residents to gain insights and foster collaborative planning. The observation results indicate that the village holds significant potential by capitalizing on its abundant natural resources, such as transforming its waterfalls into tourist attractions and leveraging local products as key assets. Findings from the focus group discussions echoed this potential but highlighted a major concern: the lack of community participation, which remains a significant issue for village officials. According to the resource persons presentation, 60% community participation is required to establish a successful tourist village. Therefore, the residents of Luthu Lamweu Village currently need a group that can initiate and mobilize community engagement and enthusiasm.

Abstract

Barrel composting offers an efficient and sustainable solution for organic waste management in community settings particularly at the household level. Waste management is also a problem in rural areas including the village of Luthi Lamweu, District of Sukamakmir, Aceh Besar. This program aimed to educate and produce about barrel composting using organic household waste by engaging women. By converting household organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, barrel composting helps reduce landfill waste while improving soil health for local agriculture. Women's participation played a crucial role in the success of this initiative, as they learned about composting techniques and the value of waste recycling. The project not only promoted environmental awareness but also encouraged local ownership of sustainable practices. The findings demonstrate that barrel composting can serve as a practical, scalable solution for organic waste management, contributing to both environmental conservation and community empowerment.

Abstract

This paper reports on a community service activity conducted in Gampong Klieng Cot Aron, Aceh Besar Regency, to assist the local community in formulating a development plan for integrated livestock farming. This initiative responds to the environmental and local economic changes resulting from the construction of a toll road and the expansion of the brick industry. Methods such as observation, interviews, and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) were employed to gather data and input from the community. The findings indicate a shift in livestock farming patterns from exclusive to inclusive and semi-inclusive systems. The proposed development plan includes an integrated livestock farming concept focusing on site selection and livestock pen design, waste management, enhancement of farmers' knowledge, and marketing of livestock products. Furthermore, land integration with the cultivation of elephant grass, corn, and sweet potatoes is suggested to support economic diversification and ensure a sustainable feed supply. Supporting facilities, such as a livestock service center and the establishment of a village-owned enterprise (Badan Usaha Milik Gampong-BUMG), are also proposed to strengthen the village economy.

Abstract

In tourism development, the majority of building materials used are modern materials. Even many local people are not familiar with the typical building materials of Central Aceh. Roofs made of serule leaves are traditional materials in Central Aceh (Ferah Yosantia et al., n.d.). The serule plant has flowers and leaves that are similar to Etlingera elatior, the Zingiberaceae family. Serule leaves grow abundantly around the edge of Lake Laut Tawar, Bintang District which continues eastward for 20 km to Serule Village. So this community service developed the manufacture of serule leaf roofs through mentoring and training for the people of Genuruen Village. This service activity was carried out in Genuren Village, Aceh Tengah applying several stages, namely: preparation stage, socialization, and implementation of activities and evaluation. Each stage is carefully planned so that the activity runs according to expectations. There are several parties involved in this activity. The results of this training will be used as a roof covering material for Umah Pitu Ruang, as a continuation of the unfinished UPR Redevelopment project. The goal is to maintain and revive the tradition of traditional craftsmanship. In addition, the final product of this serule soup will also be used in the renovation of gazebos as public facilities in Genuren Village. From the training activities on making traditional roofs using serule leaves, the community gained knowledge and skills to make serule soup. Thus, the community in Genuren Village can preserve the serule plant which is now rare, utilize local resources effectively, and improve their economic welfare.

Abstract

Groundwater is water that sourced from rainwater, river water and others which seeps into the ground and accumulates in a layer called an aquifer. Estimation of the distribution and identification of aquifer geometry is carried out to assist the people of Cot Madhi Village in an effort to design the depth of drilling to obtain water that will be used for their basic and supporting needs. In this measurement, the 1D resistivity geoelectric method is used to determine the resistivity value changes of the rock layer which serves to identify the type of aquifer and the depth of the aquifer for efficient drilling of well activities. The measurement uses Supersting instruments with Wenner-Schlumberger cable configuration. The results showed subsurface resistivity values in the measurement area between 3.4 - 112.1 m. The penetration depth in this measurement is up to 165 meters deep. The resistivity model profile indicates a very economical water layer (aquifer) with a resistivity of 27.3 m located at a depth of 54-84 meters with a thickness of 30 meters. This research found a potential aquifer layer as a source of clean water.
