Abstract

This study aims to analyze the digital communication strategy implemented by the Public Relations Division of the Bengkulu Regional Police (Polda Bengkulu) in building public trust through social media. The research focuses on the utilization of digital platforms, particularly Instagram, as a medium for public communication and institutional transparency. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method to explore the strategies used in managing digital communication and public interaction. Data were collected through observation of social media activities, in-depth interviews with public relations personnel, and documentation analysis. The findings indicate that the digital communication strategy implemented by the Public Relations Division of Polda Bengkulu is based on several key components of Government Digital Communication Theory, including digital transparency, responsiveness, public participation, and digital information management. Through consistent dissemination of information, interactive communication with the public, and professional content management, the institution is able to strengthen its public image and increase community trust. Social media serves not only as a channel for information dissemination but also as a platform for two-way communication between the police institution and the public. Overall, the implementation of digital communication strategies contributes significantly to strengthening institutional legitimacy and improving public trust in the Bengkulu Regional Police in the social media era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication strategy of the Public Relations Division of the Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Seluma Regency in socializing development programs to the community. The background of this research is based on the fact that socialization activities are still dominated by face-to-face meetings, the use of technical terms that are difficult for the public to understand, and the limited utilization of digital media. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The research informants consist of internal parties of BAPPEDA Seluma Regency and members of the community who have participated in development program socialization activities. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The analytical framework refers to Everett M. Rogers’ Development Communication Theory which includes five stages: situation and community needs analysis, message planning and communication strategy, communication implementation, community participation, and evaluation and feedback. The results show that the communication strategy of the Public Relations Division of BAPPEDA Seluma Regency is implemented through development planning forums (Musrenbang), village meetings, and direct socialization activities. Message planning has attempted to simplify language to make it easier for the public to understand; however, the use of technical planning terms still becomes an obstacle to public understanding. Community participation has been facilitated through discussion forums, although the level of public involvement varies. Evaluation of communication activities is carried out through activity reports and internal discussions, but it has not systematically involved the community. The study concludes that the communication strategy of the Public Relations Division of BAPPEDA Seluma Regency has followed the stages of development communication, but it still needs improvement in simplifying messages, optimizing dialogue, and developing a more participatory and transparent evaluation system

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has transformed communication patterns and economic activities, including among university students who utilize digital platforms to promote their businesses. However, many students still use social media mainly for product promotion without applying a structured personal branding strategy. This study aims to analyze the digital communication strategies used by Communication Science students at Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu in building entrepreneurial-oriented personal branding through social media. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation of Instagram accounts, and documentation involving students who run businesses and use social media as a promotional medium. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students have begun utilizing social media to establish their business identity; however, the implementation is still inconsistent. Most of the content focuses on product promotion rather than presenting personal values, uniqueness, and continuous audience engagement. The study concludes that students’ digital communication strategies are still basic and not yet systematically planned. Strengthening personal branding requires message consistency, clear identity, and active interaction with audiences to support entrepreneurial development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by a transformation in the information consumption of local audiences in Bengkulu, where the role of conventional media is starting to be marginalized by the presence of public information accounts on social media such as @Bengkulu_Info. The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze the influence of the @Bengkulu_Info Instagram account on the satisfaction of local news among its followers. The theoretical basis that underpins this study is the Uses and Gratifications Theory. This research uses an explanatory quantitative approach with a survey method. The population in this study was 183 people/accounts derived from the average comments on the last 3 posts of the @bengkulu_info Instagram account, with a representative sample of 65 respondents taken using the Slovin formula with the Simple Random Sampling technique. Primary data collection was conducted online through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. The collected data were tested for quality using validity tests (outer loadings, AVE, HTMT) and reliability tests (Cronbach’s Alpha and Composite Reliability) which were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 software. The results showed a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.540, indicating that the Local News Satisfaction variable was influenced by the @Bengkulu_Info Instagram account by 54.0%, while the remaining was influenced by other factors outside the study. Based on the hypothesis test (T-Test), the T-Statistics value was 8.599, which was significantly greater than the T-Table (1.96) and the P-Value was 0.000 (< 0.05), so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. The conclusion of this study empirically proves that the @Bengkulu_Info Instagram account has a positive and significant influence on local news satisfaction among its followers. Keywords: Instagram @Bengkulu_Info, Media Exposure, Local News Satisfaction, Uses and Gratifications.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of the quality of information content on the Instagram account of Diskominfotikbengkulu on fulfilling the tourism information needs of the people of Bengkulu City. The research approach used is quantitative with an explanatory method. Samples were taken using the Simple Random Sampling technique (part of Probability Sampling) from 46 respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) through SmartPLS 4 software. The analysis stages include evaluation of the measurement model (outer model) which includes convergent validity tests (outer loading > 0.70, AVE > 0.50), discriminant validity tests (HTMT < 0.90), and construct reliability tests (Cronbach's Alpha > 0.70, Composite Reliability > 0.70). Furthermore, testing of the structural model (inner model) was carried out through t-statistics and coefficient of determination (R-Square). The results of the study indicate that the quality of information content has a positive and significant effect on fulfilling tourism information needs, with a path coefficient of 0.950 and a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). This proves that the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted, while the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The R-Square value of 0.173 indicates that the quality of information content is able to influence the fulfillment of tourism information needs by 17.3%, while 82.7% is influenced by other factors. The quality of accurate, relevant, and interesting content has been proven to be effective in helping people plan their travels. These results emphasize the importance of creative management of government agencies' digital communication media to improve public information services. Abstract

Journalist credibility is central to news interviewing because it shapes sources' trust and willingness to provide information. This study examines the effect of journalist credibility on source openness in news interviews. A quantitative survey was conducted with all 30 journalists working at BE TV and RRI Bengkulu, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with SmartPLS 4. The measurement model met validity and reliability criteria: all outer loadings exceeded 0.70; Average Variance Extracted values were 0.594 for journalist credibility and 0.662 for source openness; the Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio was 0.824; Cronbach's alpha values were 0.831 and 0.872; and composite reliability values were 0.880 and 0.907. Hypothesis testing produced a t-statistic of 4.676 and p < 0.001, indicating a significant effect of journalist credibility on source openness. The R-squared value of 0.555 shows that journalist credibility explains 55.5% of the variance in source openness. The findings confirm that journalists' expertise, trustworthiness, and interpersonal attractiveness encourage sources to provide more honest, complete, and in-depth information.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the experiences and meanings constructed by 2024 Communication Science graduates of Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu who experienced prolonged unemployment. This research uses a qualitative approach with Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology. The analysis focuses on four concepts: subjective meaning, intersubjectivity, typification, and stock of knowledge. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving four graduates who experienced a job waiting period of more than six months. The findings show that prolonged unemployment is not only interpreted as the absence of employment, but also as a life experience involving social pressure, anxiety about the future, declining self-confidence, and adjustment within family, friendship, and community environments. Subjective meaning appears through uncertainty and learning during the waiting period. Intersubjectivity is formed through social interaction, typification appears through labels attached to unemployed graduates, and stock of knowledge is reflected in the use of education, communication skills, digital media, and vacancy information as resources for job searching.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the communication experiences of Communication Science students, class of 2022, at Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu in maintaining long-distance relationships. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, this study examines the meaning of communication, communication challenges, emotional dynamics, and relationship maintenance strategies through digital media such as WhatsApp, telephone, and video call. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving six students who had experienced a long-distance relationship for at least six months. The findings show that digital communication becomes the main medium for maintaining emotional closeness, trust, and commitment despite geographical separation. Students use verbal cues, extended time, selective self-presentation, and hyperpersonal communication to create a sense of symbolic presence. However, digital communication also produces challenges such as limited nonverbal cues, delayed responses, misinterpretation, overthinking, and emotional fatigue. The study concludes that communication in long-distance relationships is a complex, emotional, and adaptive interpersonal experience in which digital media functions not only as an information channel but also as a relational space for building intimacy and sustaining commitment.
