The addition of antibiotics would cause resistance to V. harveyi. Eleutherine americana is a plant that is known to contain antibacterial alkaloids, steroids, phenols, and flavonoids. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of inhibitory effects of E. americana extract against V. harveyi through in-vitro and in-vivo tests on tiger shrimp larvae. In-vitro testing consisted of 7 treatments and 3 replications, namely treatments A (0.1%), B (0.2%), C (0.3%), D (0.4%), E (0, 5%), F ethanol 70% (K-), and G chloramphenicol 0.01% (K +) treatment. The largest inhibition zone diameter of E. americana extract was shown in treatment C (0.3%), with an average value of the inhibition zone produced of 7.5 mm. Challenge test with V. harveyi concentration of 107 CFU / ml in the in-vivo test consisted of 5 treatments and four replications namely; A treatment without E. americana extract, B extract 6 ppm, C extract 12 ppm, D extract 18 ppm, and treatment E without extract and V. harveyi. The results of the challenge test with V. harveyi bacteria were significantly different in control (chloramphenicol 0.01%), where the highest survival rate was in the treatment of 12 ppm extract (43.34%). E. americana extract could inhibit the development of V. harveyi bacteria both through in-vitro and in-vivo tests on tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon).

Abstract

AbstractBumbang bay is one of the lobster fishing areas in Central Lombok District, where fishing is carried out at all times and has the potential to disrupt the sustainability of the population in the future. Data is collected from the stock of lobster stocks that are still in fishing cages. Potential risks and fishing pressure could be assessed through length and weight, growth, structure size and potential recruitment analysis. The results of the study found 6 species of lobsters, of which are 2 dominant species were pearl lobster (45.5%) and sand lobster (44.5%) of the total catch. The Length and weight relationship have a negative allometric pattern which is (pearls lobster b = 2.04 and sand lobster = 1.2). The growth rate is relatively slow with a growth rate coefficient of 0.2-0.49 per year. Therefore, recruitment per biomass from the population is also low and exploitation rate about 0.6. The population growth and recruitment relatively low and increasing the exploitation rate, potential to unsustainable of the lobster population in the future. Abstract

AbstractSubmarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) has been found in the North Lombok Island. This phenomenon is strongly related to the watershed from Rinjani Mountain permeated in the form of underwater seepages. The largest seepage was observed in Krakas Beach. The emergence of these seepages may affect water quality and nutrient pollution in the surrounding by which the distribution is mainly induced by the tidal current regime. This study aimed to determine the influence of tidal current on low-temperature groundwater distribution and to analyze the environmental issues resulted from this phenomenon. Flow model and statistical analysis were employed to determine the transport pattern of SGD. The tidal current moved southwestward during the high tidal condition ranging from 0-0.15 cm/s. While tidal current flowed northeastward during the low tidal condition ranging from 0-0.3 cm/s. The temperature fluctuation follows the changes of surface elevation around SGD in which the correlation value between those two parameters reached 63 percent. This proves that the cold-water transportation depends on the fluctuation of tidal current (tidal pumping), resulting in the imbalanced ecosystem, especially during the high tidal condition when a greater water mass transport takes place.

Abstract

AbstractOne of the biggest challenges in sea salt production is unpredictable and unsuitable weather. Sea salt production process is very depended on the evaporation rate of sea salt production and it will be stopped in the rainy season. One of the alternative strategies to solve this problem is the application of greenhouse salt crystallization in sea salt production. This study aims to develop the technology to produce sea salt in the rainy season by applying Continuously Dynamic Mixing Method (CDM) in the Greenhouse Sea Salt Tunnel (GST). The application of CDM in the GST is an original innovation developed by the researchers of this study. Environmental parameters analyzed in the present study were daily temperatures, wind speed, evaporation rate, humidity, and Baumé scale value. The quality of the produced sea salt was evaluated from the water and NaCl content. The results of this study indicate that the application of the CDM method in GST makes the sea salt production from the raw water materials (± 2° Be) can be conducted in the rainy season. The optimum water and NaCl content of the produced sea salt is 98.05 % and 7 %, respectively. The production of sea salt for one cycle (15 days) in this study is 300 kg/GST-Crystallization (44 m2). According to the results, the CDM method in the GST technology may improve the production of the sea salt in the rainy season and allow it to produce sea salt throughout the year.

Abstract

HighlightsCoral cover, rugosity, and reef fish abundance was determinedThe relationship between coral cover and rugosity and fish abundance was analyzed.Coral cover in East Java were categorized as medium – good. The rugosity index and the fish abundance were highest in Bangsring Waters. There are no relationships between coral cover and fish abundance, but there is relationship between rugosity and fish abundance.AbstractA coral reef is one of the most complex and specific ecosystems in a tropical area. It is identified by its high productivity and biodiversity. This research aims to discover the percentage of coral reef cover and rugosity, as well as the fish abundance in several locations in East Java, Indonesia. In addition, this research aims to investigate the correlation of coral reef cover and rugosity with the density of coral reef fish. This research was conducted in three locations, i.e., Bangsring Waters of Wongsorejo District, Banyuwangi Regency; Gili Noko Bawean Island, Gresik Regency; and Kramat Island, Gili Genting District, Sumenep Regency. This research employed the Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method to calculate the percentage of coral reef cover, the Chain Intercept Transect (CIT) method to determine the coral reef rugosity, and the Belt Transect method to estimate the fish abundance. From this research, it was revealed that the highest coral reef cover was in Bawean waters, while the highest rugosity was in Bangring waters. In addition, the highest coral reef fish density was in Bangsring waters. Meanwhile, the coral reef fish density did not correlate with the percentage of coral reef cover. In contrast, it correlated with the coral reef rugosity.
