Aim and Scope Future Space: Studies in Geo-Education Aim: The primary aim of Future Space: Studies in Geo-Education is to serve as an international forum for scholarly research, analysis, and dialogue concerning innovative methodologies, progressive practices, and transformative insights within the field of geography education. The journal is dedicated to contributing to the academic and practical aspects of learning and teaching geography, with a special emphasis on future-oriented strategies, technological integration, and sustainable educational practices that engage students and scholars in deep, meaningful interactions with geographical knowledge and global awareness. Abstract

The advancement of 21st-century technology has significantly impacted various fields, particularly education. Teachers are now encouraged to integrate technology into their teaching methodologies. Digital teaching materials enhance the learning process by promoting active and independent learning. This study aims to develop digital teaching materials utilizing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach to support Geography education. Employing the Research and Development method, this research follows the ADDIE model, focusing on the Analysis, Design, and Development phases to create valid and feasible digital teaching materials, as evaluated by expert validators. Validation was performed by media and material experts, a linguist, and a Geography teacher, involving 36 students from class 10 IPS 2 at SMAN 1 Lawang. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The validation results indicate high approval rates: 93% from material experts, 97% from media experts, 74% from linguists, and 92% from the Geography teacher, all rated as "very good." The student product testing yielded an average score of 82%, also rated as "very good." Key components like "I Definitely Can," "Let's Do It," and "Did You Know" integrated STEM features, which were highly rated. This confirms that STEM-based digital teaching materials are highly suitable for supporting Geography learning, particularly in the context of KD 3.6 Atmospheric Dynamics.

Abstract

In the current era, the development of education has undergone many transformative changes, such as the integration of technology in learning processes, improvements in educational facilities, innovative teaching methods, and a shift in teachers' paradigms towards professionalism. This study aims to assess the professional status of geography teachers in public and private high schools in Jombang Regency and analyze how teachers' perceptions of professional development phases influence their performance. Data collection methods included observations, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation to provide a comprehensive analysis. The results indicate that geography teachers in both public and private schools exhibit varying levels of professional competence, with notable differences influenced by their perceptions of professional development. Teachers with a positive view of professional growth phases tend to perform better in teaching and student engagement. The discussion elaborates on these findings, highlighting the importance of continuous professional development and supportive institutional policies to enhance teacher performance and educational outcomes.

Abstract

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are defined as particles and materials suspended in water with sizes up to less than 2 µm. High TSS concentrations pose significant hazards by hindering light penetration, disrupting photosynthesis, and reducing oxygen levels in aquatic environments. Conventional TSS monitoring through laboratory tests is often inefficient regarding time, labor, and cost. Consequently, remote sensing technology provides a more efficient alternative for TSS monitoring in reservoirs. This study utilizes Landsat 8 satellite imagery to develop suitable empirical algorithms for estimating TSS concentrations in Gondang Reservoir, Lamongan. It aims to evaluate the spatial distribution of TSS over three years (2016, 2019, and 2022) and analyze changes in TSS conditions throughout these periods. The research employs a quantitative descriptive method, applying the Syarif, Parwati, and Guzman & Santaella algorithms. Results indicate a continuous increase in TSS concentrations annually, with the highest concentrations observed in the reservoir's inlet areas. Accuracy tests reveal a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.71 for the Syarif algorithm, demonstrating its substantial accuracy in estimating TSS levels in Gondang Reservoir. This study underscores the worsening TSS conditions in the reservoir and highlights the effectiveness of remote sensing technology for environmental monitoring.

Abstract

The presence of Augmented Reality (AR) technology in education supports multimedia advances in learning, one of which is ATLAS: Volcanic Series. The use of multimedia in learning can facilitate the understanding of the material by students, so that good learning outcomes are achieved. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of Augmented Reality (AR) based multimedia ATLAS: Volcanic Series volcanism material on student learning outcomes of SMAN 2 Blitar. Quasi experimental is the type of this research and post-test only group design. As the method, the subjects in this study were students of class X (IPS 3 & IPS 4) SMAN 2 Blitar. Collecting data using quantitative methods through post-test results. The t-test technique (Independent Sample T-test) was carried out for data analysis in order to determine the effect of Augmented Reality (AR) based multimedia ATLAS: Volcanic Series on volcanism material on students' scores or learning outcomes in geography lessons. The results of this 2-week study show that multimedia based on Augmented Reality (AR) ATLAS: Volcanic Series volcanism material has a significant effect on learning outcomes at SMAN 2 Blitar.

Abstract

This research of aims are; 1) identify the Land Surface Temperature (LST) of land use using Landsat 8 OLI imagery for the Padang City area, 2) identify the distribution of land use using Landsat 8 OLI imagery for the Padang City area, 3) The effect of Land Surface Temperature (LST) on land use using Landsat 8 OLI imagery for the Padang City area. In obtaining the results of Land Use researchers used the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7645-2020 Classification of Land Cover Scale 1: 250,000. Meanwhile, to get the surface temperature value using the LST (Land Surface Temperature) method. The results of land use analysis obtained 10 classes, namely settlements, airports, mining, built-up land, settlements, fields, rice fields, shrubs and shrubs, secondary forests, and rivers. LST (Land Surface Temperature) results obtained 8 temperature classes including the lowest temperature, which is around 19.38ᵒC and the highest temperature 33.17ᵒC.

Abstract

Enhancing the quality of education can be achieved by incorporating technology and developing engaging media for students. This research focuses on the development of an educational e-comic covering the hydrosphere and its impact on life, using the ADDIE model—specifically, the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, and Implementation (ADDI). Expert validation confirmed the e-comic’s eligibility with an average score of 93%, classifying it as "very suitable" for educational use. Teachers and students from Senior High School Tumpang (Class XI-F, Social 3) participated in a media suitability test, with teachers rating it at 82% and students at 88%, both falling into the "very appropriate" category. An effectiveness test, conducted with students in Class XI-F, yielded a "moderate" gain score, indicating the e-comic as "sufficiently effective" in supporting learning. Thus, this e-comic meets the standards of suitability and effectiveness for teaching the topic "The Influence of the Hydrosphere on Life”.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are needed in geography lessons because they are closely related to solving geospheric problems that occur in the environment around students. Critical thinking skills are low because learning tends to be one-way or teacher centered, using conventional methods. The purpose of the study was to improve students' critical thinking skills by applying the Problem Based Learning model in geography subjects. The research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) with the subject of class X-F MAN 1 Malang students totaling 32 students. Data collection using a test totaling 6 description questions that are adjusted to the indicators of critical thinking. Analysis of research data using quantitative descriptive. The results showed an increase of 43% from pre-cycle to cycle I with an average of 72.19 and increased by 17% in cycle II with an average of 84.38. Thus, after the application of the PBL model in geography lessons there was an increase in students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Project-based learning (PjBL) is a problem-oriented learning model as the beginning of combining new knowledge with experience. The advantages of the PjBL model are able to spur students in creative thinking and can increase students to understand the theory learned along with creativity in applying their understanding to a project. The application of the PjBL model requires a variety of learning media that helps students in the process of collaboration and exploration, namely through google sites. This study aimed to determine the effect of PjBL, facilitated by Google Sites, on students' creative thinking in geography education. The study employed a quasi-experimental design, using an independent T-test to analyze the impact of PjBL on creative thinking skills. The research subjects included students from classes X-8 and X-9 at State Senior High School 7 Malang, selected based on purposive sampling to ensure similar baseline characteristics. The results and discussion show that project-based learning assisted by google sites is able to encourage students' creative thinking, especially those related to fluent thinking. It was proven by the acquisition of Independent Sample T test value Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.040 <0.05. Thus, it can be said that the project-based learning model assisted by google sites in geography subjects affects students' creative thinking skills. The findings include: 1) students are very active and enthusiastic during the learning process, 2) female students have better creative thinking skills than male students.

Abstract

Learning media serve as a tool to convey information in the learning process. Various forms of learning media have been proven to affect the interest and motivation of students to support the learning process. Digital comics, as a form of learning media, have the potential to enhance students' understanding and engagement by presenting information through storylines and visually appealing illustrations. This research aims to produce digital comic learning media on landslide disaster mitigation material entitled “Landslide Alert” for XI social studies class students in high school. The developed digital comic will cover topics such as understanding landslides, causal factors, impacts, types of landslides, and disaster mitigation efforts, providing a comprehensive overview for students. This research applied the ADDIE development model, focusing on the initial phases of Analysis, Design, and Development phase to create the foundational elements of the learning media. This research was tested on students in class XI 10 of State Senior High School 1 Kencong. The validation test of media experts obtained results of 97.06% and material experts of 75% by obtaining an overall average percentage of 86.72% including in the very feasible category. The trial on students obtained a percentage of 85.36%. Based on the development research, digital comic learning media for landslide disaster mitigation material with the title "Landslide Alert" is considered appropriate and feasible to use.

Abstract

The appropriate use of interactive multimedia is one way to increase the effectiveness of the learning process. The integration of the Google Sites platform as an interactive multimedia tool within the guided inquiry learning model aims to enhance students' critical thinking in solving environmental issues. Educational content provided through the Google Sites platform facilitates student exploration of endogenous and exogenous energy issues and their impacts on life. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of guided inquiry model assisted by Google Sites on critical thinking skills in geography subjects. This research was conducted at Islamic Senior High School Kepanjen 1 using post-test only control group design with experimental class 10-4 and control class 10-1. Data collection in this study used critical thinking post-test that has been tested for validity and reliability. The hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.004, indicating statistical significance (p < 0.05). The mean critical thinking score in the experimental class was significantly higher than in the control class, leading to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. This suggests that the guided inquiry model assisted by Google Sites positively impacts students' critical thinking skills. The application of the guided inquiry model assisted by Google Sites actually emphasises students to continue to collaborate in finding solutions to problems and support the critical thinking skills of students in geography subjects.
