Abstract

Innovative plastic waste recycling startups play a crucial role in promoting the circular economy and sustainable development. However, this sector faces various complex financial risks, including high initial investment requirements, market fluctuations, liquidity constraints, and regulatory uncertainty. This article aims to analyze the main categories of financial risks faced by plastic recycling startups and identify effective mitigation strategies based on recent literature reviews. Using a qualitative approach through an extensive review of international sources such as OECD, UNIDO, and IFC, the study reveals that initial investment and liquidity risks have the highest probability and impact on business sustainability. Effective mitigation strategies include funding diversification (via venture capital, green crowdfunding, and green financing), technology-based operational efficiency, and the implementation of digital cash management systems. Furthermore, external actors particularly governments, financial institutions, research bodies, and NGOs play a significant role in strengthening startups’ financial resilience through regulation, financing, innovation, and advocacy support. This study highlights the importance of integrating technological innovation with financial risk management as a foundation for sustainable eco-friendly startups while addressing the existing research gap on financial risk management in the recycling sector of developing countries

Abstract

This article examines the role of process innovation in improving operational efficiency within the plastic recycling industry, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Operational efficiency serves as a key factor in ensuring both sustainability and profitability amid growing environmental concerns and the global shift toward a circular economy. Through an extensive literature review of international sources, this study highlights how the adoption of technologies such as sensor-based automatic sorting systems, energy-efficient washing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and supply chain digitalization can reduce production costs, enhance product quality, and increase production capacity. However, findings also indicate that several challenges persist, including limited investment capital, low technological literacy, infrastructural disparities, and regulatory uncertainty. Therefore, the success of process innovation in the recycling industry depends heavily on collaborative support from governments, research institutions, industry associations, and NGOs. This paper contributes both theoretically and practically by proposing a conceptual framework that links process innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainability, serving as a foundation for strengthening SMEs toward an inclusive and competitive green industry

Abstract

Product diversification is a crucial strategy for micro enterprises in the fisheries sector to enhance profitability, efficiency, and business sustainability. Heavy reliance on selling fresh fish often leads to unstable income among fishermen and fish processors due to price fluctuations and perishability risks. This study aims to analyze the impact of product diversification on the profitability and efficiency of micro-scale fisheries enterprises using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The analysis was conducted by reviewing literature from international sources such as FAO, UNEP, UNIDO, and OECD, as well as empirical studies on innovation, operational efficiency, and fishery waste management. The findings indicate that product diversification can increase income by 20–40%, expand market reach, reduce raw material waste, and create a more efficient and environmentally friendly production system. Moreover, diversification generates significant socio-economic impacts, including new employment opportunities, enhanced skills among coastal communities, and improved competitiveness of local products in modern markets. However, the success of diversification largely depends on access to finance, technical skills, and market connectivity. Therefore, collaboration between entrepreneurs, government, cooperatives, and financial institutions is essential to achieve sustainable product diversification in the fisheries sector.

Abstract

Disturbances in the stability of the electric power system due to frequency drops caused by disturbances at power plants often occur in the community. This causes damage to electrical equipment, especially those sensitive to frequency. This study discusses the application of the Under Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) method as a solution to overcome this problem. The study was conducted at PT. Pertamina Pendopo Field, which uses an independent electrical system with several gas-fueled generator units. The method used in this study is a case study with a simulation based on ETAP 19.0.1 software to analyze the system response to disturbances. Calculations were made on the rate of frequency drop and the amount of load that must be shed to maintain system stability. The simulation showed that gradual load shedding of 720 kW with shedding stages at 58.4 Hz and 58.1 Hz frequencies successfully returned the system frequency to normal conditions without shedding critical loads such as production loads. The results of the study indicate that the gradual and selective application of UFLS is effective in maintaining the stability of the electric power system and preventing total blackouts. This scheme also supports the operational continuity of industrial facilities by prioritizing the continuity of power supply to critical loads.

Abstract

Nephrolithiasis, otherwise known as kidney stones, is a serious condition that is becoming increasingly prevalent, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. This increase in cases can be attributed to a combination of unhealthy lifestyles and genetic factors. Despite the efficacy of conservative therapy for nephrolithiasis, its side effects have led to the need for alternative treatments based on natural ingredients. The objective of this study was to analyze the active compounds present in tempuyung leaves and to evaluate their potential as a herbal remedy for kidney stones. The experimental laboratory techniques employed included extraction, phytochemical testing, quantitative analysis, and data analysis. The results of the study on the tempuyung leaf extract demonstrated the presence of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids, which have the potential to serve as anti-kidney stone agents. Subsequent HPLC/LC-MS analysis of the flavonoid compound group revealed that certain compounds, including quercetin, luteolin, apigenin, rutin, and kaempferol, possess anti-inflammatory, nephroprotective, antioxidant, and kidney stone dissolution properties. Consequently, tempuyung can be posited as a potential candidate for consideration in the development of phytopharmaceuticals for the treatment of kidney stones.

Abstract

Rapid population growth in urban areas of Indonesia, particularly in satellite cities such as City X, has led to an increase in domestic wastewater generation. This condition causes negative impacts on the environment, especially on the quality of water bodies and public health. Limited land availability, uneven distribution of sanitation services, and fluctuations in pollutant loads are major challenges in domestic wastewater management. To address these issues, the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is planned with characteristics of small land footprint, low operational costs, and the ability to accommodate fluctuating pollutant loads. The WWTP service area is planned to cover 591,514 m², with the projected population at the end of the planning period reaching 9.072 people in 2088. Wastewater entering the WWTP system has the following characteristics: BOD 162 mg/L, COD 268 mg/L, TSS 210 mg/L, ammonia 48,57 mg/L, and total coliform 22 × 10⁸ MPN/100 mL. The proposed treatment design alternatives include: a bar screen with dimensions of 2,4 m × 0,5 m × 0,5 m, grit chamber 13,5 m × 10 m × 1 m, grease trap 8,5 m × 2,82 m × 1,19 m, equalization tank 24 m × 24 m × 2 m, MBBR 20,57 m × 4,57 m × 4,57 m, and a disinfection unit 29,76 m × 1,25 m × 3 m. The treated wastewater is expected to comply with domestic wastewater quality standards in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. 68 of 2016. The total land area required for this WWTP is 856,6 m².

Abstract

This study examines the drainage system on Jl. Aeromodeling IV, Cisaranten Endah Village, Arcamanik District, Bandung City, which experiences flooding problems due to the suboptimal capacity of the drainage channels. The purpose of this study is to identify, analyze, and provide alternative results from the evaluation of the existing drainage system and planning. The research methods include collecting primary data through observation of the existing drainage conditions and secondary data in the form of regional maps, which are then analyzed using a hydrological approach to calculate the planned discharge and channel dimensions. The results of the study show that there are several points in the drainage system that are unable to accommodate runoff discharge, namely at points P6-P1. The proposed alternative solution is to widen the drainage system at points P6-P1 to increase its capacity in accordance with the planned discharge, as well as to install floodgates and pump houses to transfer water from the flooded area to the receiving river.

Abstract

Exploring cellulose-based matrix materials for Radar Absorbing Materials (RAM) is a strategic way to advance defence technology, emphasising both technical effectiveness and environmental sustainability. This study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to identify, evaluate and analyse previous research on the use of cellulose-based matrices compared with conventional materials such as epoxy, polyurethane (PU) and graphene. Comprehensive data was collected from indexed scientific databases (ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Wiley and Google Scholar), covering publications from 2013 to 2025. The findings reveal that, when combined with graphene or carbon nanotube (CNT) fillers, cellulose aerogels can achieve reflection loss (RL) values as low as −70 dB, outperforming most conventional materials. Furthermore, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with an ultrathin thickness of only 0.028 mm demonstrates high absorption efficiency of 98.2%. While limitations remain in terms of bandwidth and thermal stability, cellulose offers significant advantages, including low density, low cost, biodegradability and the availability of renewable resources. These results highlight cellulose as a highly promising alternative matrix material for RAM in military applications, while simultaneously supporting the green defence agenda and strengthening the resilience of the defence industry.
