Abstract

In this study, we investigate mathematical misconceptions, particularly prevalent among high school students, and offer solutions. The primary aims of our research include identifying the most common mathematical misconceptions, uncovering their underlying causes, and evaluating research-based solutions that have successfully addressed these issues. For this study, data were collected using a mixed-methods approach in Stirling Schools operating throughout Iraq. Data were gathered via a diagnostic test, as well as teacher interviews and classroom observations. The test revealed conceptual, procedural, and application problems, while interviews and observations gave qualitative information about the sources of misunderstandings and teaching tactics. The data analysis blended quantitative mistake classification with qualitative theme analysis to provide a complete picture of misunderstandings and effective training approaches. In light of the data obtained, we can state that misconceptions typically stem from a lack of conceptual understanding, over-reliance on procedural methods, and contextual misunderstandings. Additionally, it has been shown that conceptual education, visual aids, and peer-supported learning help eliminate mathematical misconceptions. These valuable findings hold significant implications for educators seeking to improve students' mathematical knowledge by emphasizing the importance of concept-based learning and providing opportunities for re-education. Through this study, we offer key insights into how widespread mathematical misconceptions can be effectively addressed, contributing meaningfully to mathematics education.

Abstract

The increasing integration of technology in education highlights the need for effective learning models that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. This study examines the effectiveness of implementing a hybrid learning model assisted by Google Classroom in improving students' learning motivation and negotiation text writing skills. Using a pre-experimental research approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, the study involved 20 grade X students majoring in software engineering at SMK Negeri 6 Konawe. Data were collected through surveys and writing skills assessments. The findings indicate that hybrid learning with Google Classroom positively impacted students' motivation and writing proficiency, providing a more flexible and cost-effective learning experience. However, challenges such as limited internet access and reduced student interaction during online sessions were identified. The study contributes to the ongoing discussion on hybrid learning by demonstrating its potential benefits in language education while also highlighting areas for improvement. These findings suggest that schools and parents should provide additional support, particularly in enhancing internet accessibility, to maximize the effectiveness of hybrid learning.

Abstract

This qualitative research is a Critical Discourse Analysis of the ways in which language is used by people in the Shona society when giving women marital advices. It specifically identifies harmful Shona phrases used when advising women on marital issues, examines how the phrases reinforce the oppression of women in the Shona society and the repercussions of using such phrases on women. Results of the research indicate that the phrases used when giving women marital advice reinforce the oppression of women as they limit women’s access to education and economic opportunities, perpetuate gender stereotyping, victim blaming, emotional blackmail, sexism and misogyny, male dominance and gendered expectations. Findings reflect that using these phrases on women make them give up on their educational goals, tolerate and normalise abusive behaviours and hang in abusive marriages which is detrimental to their physical and emotional health. Results help raise awareness among policy makers about the sources of gender oppression and inequality as gender equality is a topical issue within Zimbabwe and the world over. Results also raise awareness among people about how the language they use when advising each other on marital issues can reinforce systems of oppression, patriarchal beliefs, gender inequality and intolerance.

Abstract

The main thrust of this qualitative case study research was to establish the essence of counsellors in the fight against drug and substance abuse, informed by Beck’s (1960) Cognitive Behavioral Theory. While both convenience and purposive sampling techniques were adopted in the selection of participants, qualitative data gathering instruments namely semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were used to collect data. A phenomenological analysis (PA) was utilized to analyse the lived experiences and meanings of participants. The study established that counsellors are pivotal in the management and reduction of drug and substance abuse as they adopt counselling and relapse management. They also help in educational circles by ensuring that mental health is stabilised as youths are made to focus on education and development of the economy. To this end, the research recommends that counsellors should foster collaborative relationship and use multidisciplinary approach in addition to staying updated and using a variety of public awareness activities for both abusers and would be abusers. Overall, the study is significant to policy makers and professionals as they will make informed decisions that are research-based.

Abstract

Speed Rail (KCIC) project, developed under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The research addresses the urgency of assessing whether large-scale infrastructure projects financed through bilateral loans risk creating long-term debt dependency, drawing lessons from Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port case. The objectives are to evaluate the potential of the KCIC to drive economic growth while identifying financial vulnerabilities, and to explore how such insights can contribute to civic education and policy literacy in Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive case study approach is applied, using secondary data from government reports, academic literature, and credible media sources, framed within dependency theory and the debt-trap diplomacy discourse. Findings reveal that although the KCIC has potential benefits for connectivity and investment attraction, significant cost overruns and reliance on long-term foreign loans may expose Indonesia to fiscal risks similar to those experienced by Sri Lanka. Policy recommendations include diversifying financing sources, enhancing project governance, and embedding infrastructure analysis into public policy and strategic leadership education. These measures can strengthen national capacity to negotiate and manage large-scale infrastructure projects, aligning economic development with sustainable sovereignty.

Abstract

Competitive advantage in today’s global era is largely determined by how human resources (HR) are managed and developed, including within the field of education. Rapid changes in global society have created interactions across countries in the economic, social, technological, and educational sectors, thereby increasing cross-cultural interdependence. However, research on the role of Indonesian local culture in HR and educational development remains relatively limited. In fact, the failure of many HR management and development practices is often linked to incompatibility with local cultural values. This article presents a systematic literature review to understand the development of research on the influence of local culture in Indonesia on HR and educational development. The systematic literature review method is applied to examine and synthesize previous studies in a structured manner. The findings indicate that integrating local culture into HR and educational development strategies enhances effectiveness, sustainability, and contextual relevance. Moreover, this study highlights the importance of adapting HR and educational management practices to local wisdom and values to address global challenges while strengthening national identity. This review is expected to provide contributions for academics, practitioners, and policymakers in designing more contextual, inclusive, and sustainable HR and educational development strategies.

Abstract

This study examined classroom interaction in English Language Teaching and Learning at MTs Terpadu Berkah Palangka Raya through a qualitative case study. It aimed to identify the interaction patterns occurring during lessons and the factors that influenced interaction in improving students’ English skills. The subjects of this study were an English teacher and a class of eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). The findings showed that teacher talk dominated the classroom, while student was relatively limited and silence/confusion appeared frequently. Student participation was mainly in the form of short responses, with very few initiations. Interviews revealed that psychological and linguistic barriers such as shyness, lack of confidence, and limited vocabulary combined with external influences including teacher-centered strategies, curriculum demands, and the cultural setting of madrasah, contributed to these interactional patterns. The results of the study conclude that interactions in English classes in this context remain teacher-centered, thereby limiting opportunities for students to develop their communicative skills. The study highlights the need for more student-centered approaches to enhance participations and support language development.
