Abstract

Teacher role modeling plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character, particularly in Civic Education (Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan/PPKn) which aims to instill moral, ethical, and national values. This study aims to analyze the role of PPKn teacher role modeling as a strategy for strengthening students’ character in junior high schools. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects consisted of PPKn teachers, students, and school principals, while data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results showed that PPKn teacher role modeling, as reflected in discipline, responsibility, integrity, and social care, significantly influenced the strengthening of students’ character. This role modeling was evident not only during the learning process but also in social interactions within the school environment. The study concludes that PPKn teachers who consistently serve as role models can be an effective strategy in shaping students’ character based on Pancasila values. The implications of this study highlight the need for continuous training and development programs for teachers to strengthen their role modeling as an integral part of character education in schools.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects the quality of human resources in the future. This study aims to understand the social perspectives on the causes of stunting and its relation to family resilience in Cikembar Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency. A qualitative approach was employed through in-depth interviews with mothers of stunted children, observations, and document studies. Data were analyzed using Robert Putnam’s social capital theory, which emphasizes the role of social networks, norms, and trust in strengthening family resilience. The findings reveal that social, cultural, and economic factors contribute to stunting, while family resilience is fostered through social support, community solidarity, and family adaptation strategies. This study recommends strengthening social capital at both family and community levels as a sustainable strategy to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Young people play a strategic role in promoting political participation and strengthening democracy in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the political engagement of young people in the digital era, focusing on the dynamics, challenges, and opportunities they face. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and case studies involving informants from diverse social, educational, and geographical backgrounds. The findings reveal that the digital era has opened wider spaces for youth participation through various social media platforms and online communities. However, challenges remain, such as low political literacy, apathy toward the political system, and unequal access to technology and information. On the other hand, opportunities include easier mass mobilization, strengthened social networks, and increased political awareness through digital content. These findings suggest that optimizing the role of young people in politics requires inclusive political education strategies, equitable access to technology, and more open spaces for participation.

Abstract

Civic Education is not only intended to instill national and democratic values but also to prepare citizens who are capable of responding to the challenges of science and technology in the modern era. This study aims to examine the concept of scientific citizenship within the context of Civic Education by integrating the approaches of citizen science and epistemic agency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review as the basis for conceptual analysis. The findings indicate that scientific citizenship encourages students to actively engage in understanding, critically evaluating, and making knowledge-based decisions on public issues such as the environment, health, and digital technology. Through citizen science, students can directly participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, thereby fostering critical thinking skills and participatory awareness. Meanwhile, epistemic agency strengthens students’ capacity as active agents in constructing and justifying knowledge. The implications of this study highlight that integrating scientific citizenship into Civic Education broadens the scope of civic competence from normative understanding toward reflective, collaborative, and sustainability-oriented scientific participation. Thus, Civic Education can serve as a strategic platform to develop citizens who are critical, responsible, and scientifically literate in addressing global dynamics within a democratic framework.

Abstract

Pancasila education plays a strategic role in shaping national character and instilling the values of nationalism in students. However, its implementation often encounters various challenges in both the 2013 Curriculum and the Independent Curriculum. This study aims to analyze the challenges and obstacles in the implementation of Pancasila education within these two curricula in order to provide recommendations for educational policy improvement. The research employs a qualitative approach using a literature study method that examines various scholarly sources related to curriculum development and implementation. The findings indicate that the development of the Pancasila education curriculum has raised public concerns due to the lack of involvement of experts, academics, stakeholders, and teacher professional associations, as well as the absence of a comprehensive evaluation of the previous curriculum. In the 2013 Curriculum, the identified challenges include limited learning resources, minimal time allocation, and an imbalance in the development of attitudes, knowledge, and skills competencies. Meanwhile, in the Independent Curriculum, obstacles arise from the unclear boundaries of the independent learning concept, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and an unstructured distribution of learning outcomes. These findings imply the need for curriculum policy improvements, increased stakeholder involvement, and adequate resource support so that Pancasila education can be implemented optimally and remain relevant to students’ needs in the global era.

Abstract

Teacher performance is one of the key factors influencing the quality of both the learning process and student outcomes, including in the subject of Civic Education (PPKN). However, various challenges such as limited innovation in teaching methods and a lack of professional development still hinder the achievement of optimal learning goals. This study aims to analyze the improvement of Civic Education teachers’ performance through training and professional development programs and their impact on optimizing student learning outcomes. The research employed a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers and students from several schools. The findings indicate that continuous training and well-structured professional development enhance teachers’ pedagogical and professional competencies, as reflected in more comprehensive lesson planning, varied teaching methods, and assessments aligned with students’ needs. The improvement in teacher performance positively affects students’ learning outcomes, particularly in understanding Civic Education concepts as well as fostering civic attitudes and skills. The implications of this study highlight the importance of ongoing support from schools and the government in organizing structured training and professional development programs, along with regular evaluations to ensure the effectiveness of the learning process.
