Abstract

Pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) are traditional Islamic educational institutions that have been deeply rooted in Indonesia’s history and culture, long before the introduction of the formal school system. As centers of religious learning, pesantren not only teach Islamic sciences but also nurture the character, morals, and spirituality of the students (santri) who live in dormitory environments under the direct guidance of a kiai (religious leader). Given their crucial role in shaping morally upright and religiously knowledgeable generations, the government has provided substantial support through the Pesantren Endowment Fund, as stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2021. This fund originates from the national Education Endowment Fund and is permanent in nature (the principal amount is not depleted), with the aim of ensuring the sustainable development of pesantren education. Through this funding, pesantren are expected to continuously improve the quality of their education, broaden access, and strengthen their contributions to national development without compromising the distinctive identity and noble values passed down through generations. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach, employing the Product Moment Formula for data analysis. The research results show a calculated t-value (t-count) of 16.6105 and a critical t-value (t-table) of 1.67591. Since t-count > t-table, the hypothesis is accepted. The coefficient of determination is 65%, indicating a significant relationship between variable X and variable Y.

Abstract

Many people in contemporary society are “trapped” between two obligations that, in turn, trigger economic and psychological stress: supporting their nuclear family on the one hand, and supporting their unproductive parents on the other. This study examines the concept of sustenance according to Wahbah Az-Zuhali in Tafsir al-Munir, and its correlation with the social phenomenon of the sandwich generation. A thematic approach is used to explore the meaning of the verses about sustenance contained in Surah al-Baqarah: 215 and Surah An-Nisaa’: 34. Wahbah Az-Zuhali emphasizes that sustenance is a sharia obligation oriented towards justice and proportionality. This qualitative descriptive study focuses on Wahbah Az-Zuhali’s thoughts on who should provide sustenance and its correlation within the context of the Sandwich Generation. An inductive analysis of the Tafsir al-Munir literature illustrates that the concept of sustenance is highly relevant to the conditions of the Sandwich Generation, particularly in emphasizing the principles of social capability and responsibility. The command to sustenance needs to be understood flexibly and contextually to remain aligned with Qur’anic values and address the challenges of the times.

Abstract

Islamic education management in madrasahs is increasingly confronted with complex challenges, including quality assurance, public accountability, and the need for innovation and adaptation to social and technological change. Within the academic literature, studies on madrasah management predominantly emphasize leadership, performance, and innovation, while organizational culture is often positioned as a secondary supporting factor. This article aims to map, analyze, and synthesize the development of organizational culture–based Islamic education management studies through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) employing a narrative PRISMA approach. Literature searches were conducted using Google Scholar and the Garuda database (Indonesia) covering publications from 2017 to 2026. The synthesis reveals that most studies continue to treat leadership, organizational culture, and innovation as separate constructs, resulting in fragmented understandings of madrasah governance. The findings affirm that organizational culture should be positioned as the core governance architecture that bridges Islamic values with modern managerial practices. This article contributes by reconstructing organizational culture as an integrative foundation of Islamic education management and by offering theoretical, practical, and policy implications for strengthening sustainable madrasah governance.

Abstract

Abstract

Every Thursday, the Sholawat Beramal program is held to form religious habits. The recitation of prayers to the Prophet Muhammad SAW is integrated with the practice of giving alms to strengthen social awareness. The program is analyzed in the context of fostering religious and nationalistic character in students at the madrasah. The role of student management is examined to determine whether it supports the program's sustainability. A descriptive-qualitative method is used to understand the implementation process and the program's impact on student character development. Student management is observed; teachers and students are involved as informants in interviews and documentation to collect data. The analysis shows that the Sholawat Beramal program is a habit-forming process that contributes to the formation of religious character and social awareness in students. The program strengthens spiritual awareness and builds a religious atmosphere in the madrasah environment. The practice of giving alms provides a social experience that fosters empathy, solidarity, and responsibility towards others. Systematic student management (planning, organizing, and supervising activity implementation) accompanied by the involvement of teachers as mentors and role models in strengthening character values, all support the program's success. Integrating spiritual activities and social practices is an effective strategy for strengthening character education in madrasah environments. The Sholawat Beramal program is a character development model based on religious-social habits that contributes to the development of character education practices in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

The rise of the digital age, marked by an internet penetration rate of 79.5 percent in Indonesia, poses significant challenges to the teaching of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in junior high madrasahs (Madrasah Tsanawiyah/MTs). These challenges are particularly evident in efforts to instill religious character in students, given their exposure to various forms of digital content that may not align with Islamic teachings. Therefore, this study aims to conduct an in-depth examination of IRE learning strategies proven effective in shaping religious character among MTS students in the digital age. Additionally, this study aims to develop a learning model capable of adequately responding to the dynamics of digital life faced by the Muslim youth. The methodological approach applied in this study is a literature review (library research) that relies on content analysis and narrative synthesis of relevant scientific sources obtained through searches on Google Scholar, SINTA, and ERIC platforms. This study identifies four effective approaches to digital proliferation, which are subsequently synthesized into the Islamic Digital Character Education (IDCE) framework. This framework integrates the three pillars of Islam, namely, knowledge (ilm), faith (iman), and action (amal), with the three dimensions of digital competence: digital literacy, digital ethics, and digital creativity. Based on the established framework, a Digital Integrated Islamic Religious Education (DIRI-IRE) model was developed. This model encompasses Digital IRE Curriculum Design, Digital Active Learning Strategies, a Digital Religious Character Assessment System, and a Learning Support Ecosystem. The DIRI-IRE model is designed to address three substantial gaps identified in the existing literature from theoretical, empirical, and practical perspectives, in an effort to nurture a generation of Muslims with strong character, broad knowledge, and digital proficiency.

Abstract

This study discusses the management of noble moral education based on Qur'an Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21, which emphasizes Prophet Muhammad SAW as uswatun hasanah (a good example) for mankind. Noble moral education is an important aspect of Islamic education because it not only develops intellectual abilities but also shapes students’ character and behavior in daily life. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and evaluation of moral education through the exemplary conduct of Prophet Muhammad SAW. This research uses a library research method with data sources obtained from the Qur’an, hadith, books, journals, and other relevant literature. The data were analyzed through the processes of collection, review, and interpretation of sources related to noble moral education. The results of the study indicate that the management of noble moral education from the perspective of Qur'an Surah Al-Ahzab verse 21 places exemplary conduct as the main method in character building. Prophet Muhammad SAW serves as the primary role model through his speech, behavior, and actions. The planning of moral education is carried out by instilling Islamic values, the implementation is conducted through habituation and exemplary practices, while the evaluation is carried out through supervision and continuous moral guidance to develop akhlaqul karimah (noble character) in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

The bureaucratization of madrasah administration has become a significant issue in Islamic Education Management. Administration, which initially served as an instrument of accountability, transparency, and quality assurance, has the potential to shift to institutional objectives. Teacher work overload regulations, digital reporting, accreditation, and quality assurance often place teachers, madrasah principals, and operators within the logic of document compliance, physical evidence, and equivalence of working hours. Library research uses a descriptive-qualitative approach to analyze the bureaucratization of madrasah administration as a problem of public welfare, and to formulate a reconstruction of madrasah governance based on Maqāṣid al-Syarī’ah. Data from educational regulations, policy documents, official reports, books, and relevant scientific articles were analyzed qualitatively using the critical theory paradigm and the Maqāṣid al-Syarī’ah framework. The results of the study indicate that the bureaucratization of madrasah administration operates through the logic of documents, reports, data control, accreditation, digitalization, and work overload equivalence. The impact is evident in the increasing hidden overload of teachers; madrasah principals; operators; The weakening of pedagogical-reflective space, as well as a shift in governance orientation from service to formal compliance. Maqāṣid al-Syarīah offers an evaluative framework through hifz al-dīn, hifz al-nafs, hifz al-’aql, hifz al-māl, and hifz al-nasl. This study proposes the concept of maslahah-based madrasah governance, namely madrasah governance that shifts the orientation from administrative compliance to substantive, participatory, humane, transparent, and equitable benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Classical Guidance (CG) by a Guidance and Counseling Teacher (GCT) to improve students’ self-control. The study was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Al-Amien Jambu Lenteng Sumenep under conditions of limited infrastructure. The study used a descriptive-qualitative method with one GCT and 16 students selected through purposive sampling techniques as research subjects. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman Model. The results showed that GCT implemented CG through the planning stage (needs identification); organizing (schedule coordination); implementation (introduction, core, closing), and: follow-up (monitoring). GCT optimized the use of interactive lecture methods, group discussions, and creative use of whiteboards with colored markers and visual schemes. CG effectively improved students’ self-control. Students showed positive changes in their ability to control behavior in class, control emotions, manage learning time, and sharpness in decision-making. The main challenges include limited media, limited time duration, and the influence of the environment outside the school. The creativity and competence of GCT are the keys to the success of CG in conditions of limited facilities.
