Abstract

It is known that the problem of alcoholic beverages has been prevalent in the past and is still prevalent today. This action leads to many bad things that can damage yourself and cause others. This article seeks to give new thoughts on real or existing problems in the Qur'an. Efforts to explore or analyze the text of the Qur'an, especially discussing alcohol, can be reviewed from a literary (language) perspective, also known as semiotics. This research wants to see how the role of Julia Kristeva's semiotics with its intertextuality approach theory to reveal and trace from one text to another related to the discussion being studied. So it takes a type of qualitative research that is literature in which the collection of data is taken from books, scientific works, especially those related to liquor. The purpose of applying Julia Kristeva's intertextuality theory is to analyze the data that has been collected in order to reveal the transformations, modifications and parallels that occur from all texts. The results obtained from Julia Kristeva's intertextuality theory regarding liquor. There are transformations, modifications and parallels that occur in the three verses about liquor, namely QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 219, QS. An-Nisa' (4): 43 and QS. Al-Ma'idah (5): 90-91. The first verse warns that intoxicants contain many evils and harms. The second verse explains that it is not recommended to pray while drunk. It is known that the habits of the Arab community at that time could not be separated from liquor, even when they wanted to pray. This is the transformation and modification that occurs in the first verse to the second verse. The parallel is known in the previous two verses and this third verse both discuss liquor, but in this verse there is a meaning of confirmation of the prohibition of liquor.

Abstract

The significance of this study lies in the understanding that the concept of the qibla in Islam is not merely a geographical direction but a symbol of identity, unity, and spiritual orientation for Muslims. In the modern era, the interpretation of the qibla faces challenges due to the developments in science, culture, and societal dynamics. The material object of this research is the concept of the qibla as interpreted in Tafsir At-Tanwir, while the formal object is the semiotic analysis of Charles Sanders Peirce, which views signs as a triadic relationship between the representamen, object, and interpretant. This study aims to uncover the profound meanings of the qibla concept through a comprehensive semiotic approach. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical method with Peirce's semiotic theory as the analytical framework. Primary data are derived from Tafsir At-Tanwir, authored by the Muhammadiyah Council for Tarjih and Tajdid, while secondary data include literature on semiotics, Quranic exegesis, and socio-cultural studies related to the concept of the qibla. The analytical technique involves identifying the three core elements of a sign—representamen, object, and interpretant—and exploring their interrelations within historical, social, and theological contexts. The findings reveal that the qibla concept in Tafsir At-Tanwir is interpreted in multiple dimensions: as the direction of worship, the exclusive identity of Muslims, a symbol of an egalitarian social system, and an instrument for shaping the ideal personality of an Islamic society.

Abstract

The reading of Q.S. Āli 'Imrān (3): 7, especially in relation to mutasyābihāt verses (similar, vague, similar to one another, cannot stand alone) and muḥkamāt verses (definite, firm, clear), generally have nothing to do with gender issues. With a critical approach, especially literary and historical approaches, Angelika Neuwirth presents a different interpretation, which implicitly displays the Hermeneutics of Feminism, where muḥkamāt verses and mutasyābihāt verses can be positioned as a discourse of gender equality. This research aims to develop the muḥkamāt-mutasyābihāt theory from Angelika Neuwirth's perspective. The method used is the “qualitative grounded theory” method. The research data is obtained through library research, which is taken from data sources in the form of writings or statements of Angelika Neuwirth regarding Q.S. Āli 'Imrān (3): 7, as well as data from other sources related to muḥkamāt-mutasyābihāt verses. The data collected were then analyzed and interpreted in such a way. The results show that the reading of Q.S. Āli 'Imrān (3): 7 is closely related to feminist hermeneutics, and therefore has evolved.

Abstract

This research examines Abu Hayyan's methodology in the tafsir 'al-Bahr al-Muhit,' especially in interpreting QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 222, by comparing mutawatir and shādzdzah qirât. Abu Hayyan's approach highlights the interaction between qirât and legal interpretation and compares it with other scholars to assess his contribution to Islamic jurisprudence. This study is qualitative research using descriptive-analytical methods. It analyses Abu Hayyan's interpretation, especially in his work al-Bahr al-Muhit, by comparing the different interpretations of other scholars to gain a broader insight. This study concludes that Abu Hayyân succeeded in showing that qirât syâdzdzah can be used to interpret the Qur'an. Qirât shâdzdzah can be compromised with qirât mutawatir to provide a more holistic interpretation in the study of interpretation and Islamic jurisprudence.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the integrative model of Qur'anic interpretation developed at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, with a focus on the contributions of two contemporary approaches: ma'na-cum-maghza and maqasidi. These approaches represent scholarly efforts to merge textual meaning with contextual relevance in understanding the message of the Qur'an. The ma'na-cum-maghza approach emphasizes uncovering the deeper meanings behind the text, while the maqasidi approach centers on the universal objectives and values that sharia aims to realize. Through a literature review and analysis of academic works produced at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, this study demonstrates that the integrative model not only enriches tafsir methodology but also offers a more adaptive response to the challenges of the modern era. As such, this model makes a significant contribution to the development of a contextual, relevant, and transformative Qur'anic interpretation.

Abstract

The Legal Reconstruction of Marriage Dispensation in Indonesia through a Theo-Juridical Approach in the Perspective of the Qur’an aims to re-examine the practice of underage marriage within the context of Islamic law, particularly from the perspective of the Qur’an, and to recommend a form of legal reconstruction within the Indonesian legal system. Child marriage remains a persistent legal and social phenomenon across various regions in Indonesia, despite the revision of the minimum marriageable age through Law Number 16 of 2019. A legal loophole in the form of marriage dispensation, as stated in Article 7 paragraph (2), creates room for practices that contradict the principles of child protection. This study employs a normative-juridical method and thematic (maudhū‘i) interpretation of Qur’anic verses related to marriage, family responsibility, and child protection. The findings indicate that the Qur’an emphasizes not only biological readiness but also intellectual maturity (rushd) as an ideal requirement for marriage. The practice of marriage dispensation is considered inconsistent with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly in the aspects of protecting life, intellect, lineage, and the dignity of children. This paper recommends legal reconstruction that includes statutory reform, strengthening of law enforcement structures, and transformation of legal culture in society based on Qur’anic values.
