Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of transformational leadership and Islamic work ethics on employee performance, with organizational commitment serving as a mediating variable in Islamic financial institutions in North Sumatra, Indonesia. A quantitative research approach was employed using a survey method involving 200 employees from various Islamic financial institutions. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to simultaneously examine the relationships among the study variables. The findings reveal that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on both employee performance and organizational commitment. Similarly, Islamic work ethics significantly enhance organizational commitment and employee performance, indicating the importance of ethical values in promoting positive workplace outcomes. Furthermore, organizational commitment exerts a positive and significant influence on employee performance and mediates the relationships between transformational leadership and employee performance, as well as between Islamic work ethics and employee performance. These results suggest that the integration of transformational leadership practices with Islamic work ethics fosters stronger organizational commitment, which in turn contributes to higher employee performance. The study provides empirical evidence supporting the strategic role of leadership and ethical values in improving organizational effectiveness within Islamic financial institutions. The findings offer practical implications for managers and policymakers seeking to strengthen employee commitment and optimize organizational performance by cultivating transformational leadership behaviors and reinforcing Islamic ethical principles in the workplace.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of an internal control system for inventory in a seafood processing company. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with an explanatory analysis design. The primary data in this study were collected through interviews and direct field observations, which were then analyzed using descriptive techniques based on the five components of the COSO Framework. Based on the study results, the implementation of internal control over inventory based on the COSO Framework approach is only 40.00% compliant overall, indicating a “not met” category. The results show that the compliant COSO components relate to Information and Communication. Risk Assessment is categorized as “sufficiently met.” However, Control Environment, Control Activities, and Monitoring Activities remain non-compliant. The failure to meet these components stems from a manual recording system, the absence of written standard operating procedures (SOPs), absences that are not formally documented, and the lack of periodic physical counts. These weaknesses result in inaccurate inventory records, causing them to lose their function as a decision-making tool for management. As a solution, the company is advised to implement daily Excel-based computerization, develop written SOPs, tighten authorization procedures, schedule inventory counts, and improve preventive oversight.

Abstract

Shifts in the workforce's demographic structure have led to workplaces being increasingly dominated by Millennials and Generation Z, presenting new challenges for human resource management—particularly regarding differences in characteristics, communication styles, work ethics, and expectations for work-life balance, all of which can trigger interpersonal conflict and impact productivity. This study aims to analyze and explain the influence of work-life balance (WLB) and job satisfaction on employee performance, with employee engagement serving as an intervening variable, among Millennial and Generation Z employees at PT Jhonlin Agro Raya Tbk in Batulicin, South Kalimantan. A quantitative approach utilizing explanatory research methods was employed. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires both in person and via Google Forms using a 1-5 Likert scale. Non-probability sampling was used via a saturated sampling approach, resulting in a total of 291 respondents: 186 Millennials (63.9%) and 105 Generation Z employees (36.1%). The respondent demographic was predominantly male (66.7%), with the majority having a tenure of 1-3 years (49.8%). Data analysis was performed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 software, alongside a Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) approach to compare the generational groups. Evaluation of the measurement model (outer model) revealed that all variable indicators had loading factor values > 0.6 and Average Variance Extracted (AVE) values > 0.5, thereby meeting convergent and discriminant validity requirements the model also demonstrated reliability, with composite reliability values > 0.7. Evaluation of the structural model (inner model) indicated good predictive relevance (Q2 > 0) and a high level of overall model fit (high Goodness of Fit Index: 0.512 for Millennials and 0.657 for Gen Z). The R-squared values for the Millennial generation group indicate that 43.7% of the variation in employee performance (a moderate level) and 50.9% of the variation in employee engagement can be explained by the model. Meanwhile, for the Generation Z group, the model strongly explains 69.3% of the variation in employee performance and 60.8% of the variation in employee engagement. Overall, work-life balance and job satisfaction were found to have a positive impact on both employee engagement and employee performance, with employee engagement serving as an effective mediator bridging this relationship across both workforce generations at PT Jhonlin Agro Raya Tbk.

Abstract

Generation Z in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, has grown up in a digital environment that promotes highly consumptive lifestyles through trends such as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and You Only Live Once (YOLO), making them more vulnerable to financial instability and lower financial well-being. This study examines the effects of deliberative thinking, mental budgeting, and self-control on the financial well-being of Generation Z in Jakarta. A quantitative research design was employed using a survey of 400 respondents born between 1997 and 2012, selected through probability sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The findings indicate that deliberative thinking (β = 0.168, t = 2.076, p = 0.019), mental budgeting (β = 0.233, t = 3.123, p = 0.001), and self-control (β = 0.368, t = 4.228, p < 0.001) each have a positive and significant effect on financial well-being. Among these variables, self-control demonstrates the strongest influence. Collectively, the three predictors explain 48.1% of the variance in financial well-being (R² = 0.481). These findings highlight the importance of strengthening self-control and mental budgeting practices, alongside promoting deliberative decision-making, to enhance the financial well-being of young adults in the face of increasing digital economic challenges.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed the conventional work paradigm towards a flexible Work-From-Anywhere (WFA) system that requires adaptation to digital well-being and work-life harmony. In the context of media organizations such as Lampung Post, this change poses challenges to performance efficiency due to the high digital workload and the need for flexible working hours. This study aims to analyze the influence of WFA, Digital Well-Being, and Work-Life Harmony on performance efficiency with employee engagement as a mediating variable. This study uses a quantitative approach with the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method, involving Lampung Post employees as research respondents. The analysis results show that the three independent variables have a positive and significant effect on performance efficiency, both directly and indirectly through employee engagement. Work-Life Harmony has the most dominant influence, while employee engagement is proven to be the main mediator in strengthening the relationship between variables. This study concludes that improving performance efficiency in the digital work era depends on the synergistic management of work flexibility, digital well-being, and work-life harmony with employee engagement as the main driver.
