Abstract

The modern logistics industry faces significant challenges in improving operational efficiency amid cost pressures, increasing demands for flexibility, and stringent environmental regulations. This study aims to explore the impact of modular container design and cargo consolidation strategies on cargo operational efficiency. Using a literature review approach, the findings reveal that modular container design enhances flexibility and efficiency in space utilization, accelerates loading and unloading processes, and reduces the number of containers required. On the other hand, cargo consolidation strategies integrate multiple shipments into a single delivery to minimize delivery frequency, lower fuel consumption, and reduce carbon emissions. The integration of these two approaches provides a holistic solution for improving logistics efficiency while supporting environmental sustainability. These findings offer strategic insights for logistics industry stakeholders to adopt innovations that boost competitiveness and ensure sustainable operations.

Abstract

Flooding is a frequent natural disaster in Semarang City, significantly impacting the logistics sector. This study aims to analyze the impact of flooding on logistics efficiency in goods transportation using railways in Semarang City. The research employs a quantitative approach with secondary data analysis from railway operational reports and primary data through interviews with logistics actors and station managers. The findings reveal that flooding disrupts operations, causing delays, increased logistics costs, and reduced transport capacity. Additionally, access to railway stations is often hindered by water inundation, slowing down the distribution process. The study concludes that flooding significantly reduces logistics efficiency in Semarang City, particularly in railway transportation. To mitigate these impacts, robust infrastructure planning and improved coordination between logistics service providers and local governments are necessary.

Abstract

The Sea Toll Program is a strategic initiative of the Indonesian government aimed at reducing price disparities and improving the distribution of goods between the western and eastern regions of the archipelago. This article presents a literature review study that examines the contribution of Sea Toll shipping to the distribution of commodities between islands through an analysis of various literature sources, policy documents, and secondary data. The results of the review indicate that Sea Toll plays an important role in strengthening national logistics connectivity, especially in the 3TP (underdeveloped, remote, outermost, and border) regions. This initiative has driven a decrease in distribution costs, opened market access for local business actors, and supported the smooth distribution of strategic commodities. However, the implementation of the program still faces obstacles, such as limited port infrastructure, imbalances in cargo flows (low return cargo), and lack of coordination between institutions. Other challenges include minimal involvement of the private sector and suboptimal utilization by local economic actors. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase synergy between the government, private sector, and the community, as well as the development of port facilities and production capacity in the destination areas. In conclusion, if managed well and sustainably, the Sea Toll shipping can be a main pillar in an efficient and equitable national logistics system, and can strengthen economic integration between regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Efficiency and equitable distribution of logistics are key elements in supporting national economic development, especially in an archipelagic country like Indonesia. This article explores the contribution of pioneer shipping and sea toll ships in strengthening the national logistics system. Pioneer shipping plays a vital role in opening up access to sea transportation to hard-to-reach areas, such as remote, outermost, and disadvantaged areas, which commercial shipping lines have not served. Meanwhile, the sea toll program is present as a solution to reduce price disparities between regions through regular and low-cost delivery of goods. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with case studies on several pioneer shipping routes and sea toll routes. The study results show that both programs significantly impact expanding connectivity, driving the local economy, strengthening the national logistics system, and supporting equitable development. However, obstacles are still found, such as unbalanced cargo flows, limited supporting port facilities, and lack of coordination between stakeholders. To address these challenges, it is necessary to strengthen collaboration between the central government, local governments, and the private sector. This article provides relevant insights for other archipelagic countries that want to develop an inclusive, efficient, and sustainable maritime logistics system.
