Abstract

This study explores the perceptions of the evil eye, its consequences, and the status of the manas, a marginalized potter subgroup of the Dawuro community. The Dawuros number about a million people living in the Southwestern part of Ethiopia, the Dawuro zone, and speak the Dawuro language. The manaas are groups practicing pottery and are regarded as evil-eyed among the Dawuros. To Dawuro in general, the manaas are a low-ranking group, accused of possessing Evil Eye which is supposed to endanger the lives of others. They are by tradition the object of much marginalization, prejudice, and superstition, and continue to be discriminated against in housing, schooling, social gathering, funeral, and marriage opportunities, although they provide useful goods and various ritual services to the Dawuros. The paper employs qualitatively gathered data and discusses the perceptions of the evil eye among the Dawuros and its consequences and implications on the lives of the Manaas.

Abstract

The development of the Jawi Arabic chemistry module on atomic structure material which was carried out at Dayah Terpadu Al-Muslimun Lhoksukon was motivated by the absence of a chemistry module that uses Indonesian or Jawi Arabic, therefore researchers are interested in developing the Jawi Arabic chemistry module as one of the latest innovations that can increase students' interest in learning. The aim of this research is to determine the feasibility of the product and students' responses to the Arabic Jawi chemistry module being developed. The subjects used were class X science students, the sample was 20 Islamic boarding school students and female students. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) and uses the Borg and Gall model. Data collection techniques were carried out using interview questionnaires as initial needs analysis, product validation questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. Data analysis of validation results and response questionnaires uses a percentage formula. The results of the validation of the Jawi Arabic Chemistry module reached an average percentage of 87.6% in the "very feasible" category and the student response results reached a percentage of 91.92% in the "very good" category. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the development of the Jawi Arabic chemistry module on atomic structure material is suitable for use as an additional reading reference in Dayah Terpadu Al-Muslimun Lhoksukon.

Abstract

This study delves into the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)-related facets of unhygienic menstrual practices among female students enrolled in colleges of education in Anambra State, Nigeria. The study scrutinizes the availability and condition of sanitation facilities, access to clean water, disposal methods for menstrual waste, as well as the prevailing knowledge, attitudes, and socio-cultural norms related to menstruation. The research employed a survey design methodology, utilizing self-structured questionnaires distributed via Google survey to collect data from a sample of 100 female students. The questionnaire's content was validated by professionals in the field. The reliability of the instrument was assessed using Cronbach's coefficient alpha. Various statistical techniques, including frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were employed for data analysis. The findings revealed significant gaps in menstrual hygiene management. A majority of the female students faced challenges due to inadequate sanitation facilities and a lack of access to clean water. Unhygienic practices, including the use of unsuitable materials, were prevalent, leading to health risks such as urinary tract infections and discomfort. Additionally, social stigma and cultural taboos persisted, contributing to secrecy and misinformation surrounding menstruation. These results underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions. This study thus serves as a foundational step in advocating for comprehensive menstrual hygiene management in educational institutions and beyond.

Abstract

Development of environmentally based practicum guides was motivated by the lack of use of practicum guides as support for practicum learning and also the practicum learning at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Al- Kautsar Al-Akbar Medan which were inadequate, such as learning that were no longer usable/expired so they could not be used. during practicum. Research on the development of an environmentally based practicum guide on acid base learning at MAS Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Medan aims to determine the validity of the practicum guide, teacher responses and student responses to the environmentally based practicum guide developed on acid base material at MAS Al-Kautsar Al -Akbar Medan. This research uses the research and development method (Research and Development/R&D) referring to the ADDIE development model, the stages that researchers must carry out include the analysis stage, the design stage, the development stage, the implementation stage (implementation), as well as the evaluation stage. The results of the research obtained in calculating the average percentage of validator assessments were 82.6% for the teacher response questionnaire, 98% while for students it was 95%. Based on the results of the data obtained, it can be concluded that the environmentally based practicum guide on acid-base material is very valid for use at MAS Al-Kautsar Al-Akbar Medan.

Abstract

The use of less varied learning models is one of the factors that can affect student activity in the learning process, which can lead to low student learning outcomes. One of the steps taken to overcome this problem is to apply the jigsaw cooperative learning model. This study aims to evaluate student learning activities taught through the application of the jigsaw cooperative learning model on the human excretory system material. The results of data analysis on student learning activities at the first meeting showed an average percentage value of 75.37%, which is included in the active criteria. At the second meeting, the average percentage value of student learning activities increased to 84.7%, which is included in the very active criteria. From these data, it can be concluded that the application of the jigsaw cooperative learning model has a positive effect on increasing student learning activities on the human excretory system material at State Junior High School 3 Indrapuri.

Abstract

This study explores the psychological impacts of balancing career and parenting responsibilities among female lecturers in tertiary institutions in Anambra and Enugu States, Nigeria. The research investigates the stressors that female lecturers face while managing their academic roles and parenting duties, and examines the support provided by tertiary institutions in mitigating these challenges. The study used a descriptive survey approach. The research covered various government-owned institutions, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and others. Data were collected from 2,297 female lecturers using a validated 4-point Likert scale questionnaire. Analysis involved descriptive statistics and Welch’s ANOVA due to violations of normality and homogeneity of variances. Ethical considerations included obtaining consent from institutional leaders and addressing socio-cultural biases. The findings reveal that female lecturers experience significant psychological distress, including stress, emotional exhaustion, and burnout, due to the dual demands of work and family. Key stressors include long working hours, family responsibilities, childcare challenges, and social expectations of perfect performance. Furthermore, the study identifies the role of tertiary institutions in alleviating these stressors, such as offering flexible work schedules, childcare services, and mentorship programs. Despite these efforts, the study suggests that more comprehensive policies and support systems are needed to improve the work-life balance of female lecturers. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing institutional support to foster better psychological well-being among female academics.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' ability to read the Qur'an in Islamic religious education learning by using the qira'ati method. This study is a classroom action research that uses four steps, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were elementary school students. The data of this study were obtained by test and observation techniques. Tests are used to measure learning outcomes and observations are used to analyze teacher and student learning activities. The data analysis technique used in this study is descriptive statistics by comparing the results obtained with indicators of research success. The results of the study indicate that the qira'ati method can improve the ability to read the Qur'an in Islamic religious education learning. This can be seen from the increase in the percentage of student learning completion in each cycle with details of the pre-cycle 48.71%, the first cycle 66.39% and in the second cycle increased to 89.66%. Thus, the use of the qira'ati method can be used as an alternative to improve students' ability to read the Qur'an in Islamic religious education learning.
