Abstract

This study aims to apply flashcard learning media in an effort to increase English vocabulary in class VII A MTsn 2 Malang. The method that the author uses is classroom action research, by observing the use of media in the classroom. The results of the study, flashcard learning media are cards with interesting words or pictures that become a teacher's tool for children to play and learn, especially in improving vocabulary understanding. The results of the schools taught by the researchers were very good, and there was an increase from the first cycle to the second cycle. The average value in the first cycle was 82, with learning completeness about 76% while in the second cycle it increased with an average value of 86 , with learning completeness around 86%, the results of the study show that the implementation of learning using flashcard media can improve student learning outcomes in English subjects in class VII MTsN 2 Malang

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to compose procedural texts for students of class IX SMP Plus Al-Kautsar Malang by applying the learning method using the Student Team-Achievement Division (STAD) method. This research uses Classroom Action Research which is conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were students of class IX SMP Plus Al-Kautsar Malang in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, totaling 17 students. Data collection in this study was carried out in two cycles. Cycle 1 shows the percentage of learning outcomes of 52.9%, from the data it is known that 8 students are still below the minimum completeness criteria. Then in cycle 2 the percentage of learning completeness reached 100%. So it can be concluded that there is a very significant increase in learning outcomes from the use of the STAD learning method.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a part of a language or the core of a language that can be arranged into sentences. Teaching to students, of course, is not only introduced orally but also teaching in physical form and instructions. One of them is the TPR method. The Total Physical Response method is a learning method that focuses on teaching language through commands accompanied by speech, then movement through physical activity, and then imitation. This study aimed to determine the effect of the TPR method on students' vocabulary mastery. This study uses pre-experimental quantitative research methods. The subjects of this study were 25 fifth-grade students. The results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The test results were tested by data analysis in the form of Paired Sample T-Test using the SPSS 25 application. The test results show a significance value of 0.000, meaning that the value is smaller than 0.05 so H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. So, the TPR learning method is effective in mastering students' vocabulary.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether “New Big City Adventure Game” can increase the students’ vocabulary mastery or not. The data were gathered using two kinds of instruments; those are (1) vocabulary tests, (2) questionnaires. The vocabulary tests were pre and post-tests, while the questionnaires were distributed to the students’ of the experimental group and the teacher. The study's findings revealed that “New Big City Adventure Game” successfully enhanced the students’ vocabulary mastery. Besides, it could trigger the students’ motivation to learn English. The result was proven by the gain of the experimental group’s performance after being given treatment by the researcher. In addition, the results of the students and teacher’s questionnaires showed positive responses towards the treatment given.

Abstract

The use of media in online learning plays an important role in the process of achieving learning goals, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic which requires schools in Indonesia to study by online. Then e-learning is becoming one solution that is considered to be able to maintain the learning process. The purposes of this study were to find out the students’ perceptions and motivation toward E-Learning as media in the online teaching English during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research was qualitative research. The subjects were the Eleventh Grade Students of MAN 1 Tapin in Academic year 2020/2021. Questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed and interpreted through qualitative procedure through. The findings indicate that the students have positive perception using online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the results, it shows that the students’ perception about their ability, teacher role and also students’ activeness in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic was efficient because it could become alternative way to conduct learning activity from home. The students also get positive perception because it is flexible and effective.

Abstract

An online class is a form of learning media that uses the internet, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. E-learning is a platform that utilizes information and communication technology to facilitate learning, whether traditional, online, or hybrid, through the application of digital technology. This study examines the perceptions of English Education Department students at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang regarding the use of the E-learning platform developed by the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang in the IT for ELT course. The number of respondents in this study was 21 students of English Education at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang who were taking IT for ELT courses in the sixth semester. Meanwhile, this study uses a qualitative method that focuses on case studies. The results of this study indicate that students majoring in English education have a positive perception of the E-learning platform at the State Islamic University Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang as a learning tool in the IT for ELT course.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of numbered heads together was effective in speaking skills in recount text for class VIII students at MTS Annur Baiturrahim Seppong. In this research, researcher used a quantitative research approach with the pre-experiment research method and the design used was one group pretest and posttest design. The samples of this research were ten students in class VIII consisting of six males and four females. Instrument in this research was an oral test. The results of the students' pretest and posttest obtained would be calculated and analyzed use SPSS 21. The results of this research, that score was obtained by students from pretest to posttest showed that posttest result was higher than pretest. The highest score on the pretest was 68, while the lowest score was 48. With an average value = 55.9, standard deviation was 7.156 as well standard error was 2.263. While the highest score on the posttest was 85 and the lowest score was 62, the average value was 71.2, standard deviation was 7.33 and the standard value error was 2,318. Next, the results of the hypothesis test used sample paired t-test which shows that the t table was lower than the t value was 2.262˂25.619. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. Keywords: Numbered Heads Together; Speaking Skills; Recount Text ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan numbered heads together efektif dalam kemampuan berbicara pada recount text siswa kelas VIII di MTS Annur Baiturrahim Seppong. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode penelitian pre-experiment serta desain yang digunakan adalah one group pretest and posttest. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, adalah sebanyak sepuluh siswa kelas VIII yang terdiri dari 6 laki-laki dan 4 perempuan. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes lisan. Hasil dari pretest dan posttest siswa yang diperoleh akan dihitung dan dianalisa menggunakan bantuan SPSS 21. Hasil dari penelitian ini, menunjukkan bahwa hasil postest lebih tinggi daripada pretest. Skor tertinggi pada pretest adalah 68, adapun skor terendahnya adalah 48. Dengan nilai rata-rata = 55.9, standart deviasinya adalah 7.156 serta standart erornya adalah 2.263. Sedangkan skor tertinggi pada posttest adalah 85 dan skor terendah adalah 62, nilai rata-ratanya adalah 71.2, standart deviasinya adalah 7.33 serta nilai standar eror adalah 2.318. Selanjutnya, hasil dari uji hipotesis menggunakan sample paired t-test yang menunjukkan bahwa t table lebih rendah dari nilai t yaitu 2.262˂25.619. Abstract

Reading comprehension ability is the foundation of students in mastering the various abilities and knowledge of English needed by students. Having good reading comprehension ability skills helps students in understanding the meaning of the reading contained in a reading. In this study, the researcher conducted a study that aimed to analyze and enhance students' reading comprehension ability of narrative texts when storytelling and jigsaw techniques were applied and students' perceptions when these two things were applied. Here, the researcher applied a case study research design using a qualitative descriptive analysis method in which the researcher described and analyzed how students' reading comprehension ability of narrative texts when storytelling and jigsaw techniques are applied, as well as students' perspectives on it. For data collection, researchers used observation and interviews as research instruments. The results showed that when the teacher applied storytelling and jigsaw techniques in learning reading comprehension ability of narrative texts, students’ reading comprehension ability of narrative texts were enhanced. Students can understand the general structure and elements of narrative text well. In addition, students can also identify the main ideas, factual information, references, and inferences contained in the text that has been presented by the teacher. The application of these two things in learning reading comprehension ability of narrative texts also gets a positive perspective from students. The students explained that they liked group discussions regarding the narrative text material given to them by the teacher and the storytelling activities carried out by their group mates.

Abstract

This study explores the correlation between students' habits of watching English animated comedy movies and their English vocabulary proficiency among Eighth Graders at SMPN 1 Ngantang. The research involved 45 randomly selected students, and data collection employed questionnaires and vocabulary tests. The collected data underwent analysis using the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The findings indicate a significant but low negative correlation (r = -0.294) between students' movie-watching habits and their English vocabulary mastery. This correlation coefficient was smaller than the critical value at a 5% significance level. The two-tailed significance level (sig. = 0.05) further confirms a significant relationship between the variables. In conclusion, Eighth Graders at SMPN 1 Ngantang exhibit a significant but low negative correlation between their habits of watching English animated comedy movies and their English vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Grammar is often considered difficult to learn. With the development of technology in education, this difficulty can be overcome using media that integrate with technology. One of the media that can be used for learning grammar is Wordwall.net. Many studies have examined the use of Wordwall.net in the learning process, one of those in the process of learning grammar. As a result, this research explores EFL students' perception of using Wordwall.net as media for learning Grammar by looking at their acceptance based on four variables of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which are perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), Perceive Usefulness (PU), Attitude Towards Using (ATU), and Behavioral Intention to Use (BITU) and what difficulties they faced during the implementation of Wordwall.net in learning Grammar which focuses on eleventh-grade students MAN 1 Gresik as the novelty of this research. This research used a mixed method. With a sequential explanatory research design, the instruments used in this study are questionnaires and interview guidelines. The questionnaires use the Likert scale to measure the data. From the analysis process, students perceive that Wordwall.net is easy to use and useful. In addition, students show a positive attitude towards using Wordwall.net in grammar learning, and students intend to use Wordwall.net in the process of learning Grammar in the next meeting. Difficulties faced by students when using Wordwall.net is the less clear instructions, internet problems, and students' device. Thus, students accept the use of Wordwall.net in grammar learning, and the source of problems that arise are external problems. Furthermore, Wordwall.net can be implemented in the learning grammar process because this game brings a positive impact based on students' perceptions. The game is easy to use, simple, fun, and increases their learning motivation.
