Abstract

The objective of the research were: 1)to find out the type of errors in using preposition of place in writing descriptive text by the students of class VII A in SMP N 1 Ngargoyoso Karanganyar in 2021/2022 academic year, 2) to find out the dominant errors in using preposition of place in writing descriptive text by the students of class VII A in SMP N 1 Ngargoyoso Karanganyar in 2021/2022 academic year, and 3) to find out the causes of errors in using preposition of place in writing descriptive text by the students of class VII A in SMP N 1 Ngargoyoso Karanganyar in 2021/2022 academic year. The method of the research was descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted on 12 January to 20 January 2022. The subjects of the research were class VII A of SMP N 1 Ngargoyoso, in the class consist 32 students. In technique of collecting the data, the researcher used interview, test, and documentation. To analyze, the researcher used the model of qualitative analysis from Miles and Huberman. This research was Error Analysis. Then, to analyze the data, the researcher used the Corder’s theory. The five texts gave to the students. Then, the type of errors was made by the students was misformation type. In this research, the dominant error in the use of preposition was misformation. In the first text, the dominant preposition was “in” with percentage of 63.7%. In the second text was preposition “at” with percentage of 55.6%. In the third text was preposition “at” with percentage of 60%. In the fourth text was preposition “in” with percentage of 61.7%. In the last text was preposition “in” with the percentage of 59.9%. Then, the causes of error in the used of preposition there were two causes. There were carelessness and first language. It could be conclude, the misformation was the main type of error in the class. The dominants error in the used of preposition was misformation with percentage of 100% each text. The causes of error in the used of preposition were carelessness and first language. Abstract

The aimed of this research was to determine (1) Quizizz application in learning English of the eight grade SMP N 11 Surakarta, (2) to find out the students’ reading ability of the eight grade of SMP N 11 Surakarta, and (3) to find out whether or not there is correlation of study between Quizizz and students’ reading ability of students in graden 8 SMP Negeri 11 Surakarta in the Academic year 2022/2023. This researcher was conducted at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 11 Surakarta in the academic year 2022/2023. Researcher used quantitative methods with correlation techniques. The researcher give questionnaire to 30 participants in order to gather the data quizizz in learning reading English in a class. The questionnaire used consisted of 30 items. Then, to measure the ability reading students, this research used a reading test for students. In data analysis, students’ questionnaires were measured using a Likert Scale, and reading tests were measured using Suharsimi Arikunto’s categories reading achievement. The findings of this research indicate that there are positive about correlation of research between quizizz and students’ reading English ability. It is proven by the results of calculation of ((rxy) 0.615) > rtable in the significant table 5% (0.374) and 1% (0.478). Then, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is therefore deemed to be accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, in this research it can be concluded that there is a positive the correlation of research between quizizz as digital platform and students’ reading English ability. This means quizizz has higher impact, the better students’ reading ability. Keywords : Quizizz, Reading English Ability, Correlational Study

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze character values types in an English textbook, "Think globally act locally," for junior high school ninth graders. This study used descriptive qualitative research, using a 2018 textbook published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education. The study was conducted from June to July 2023. . The results showed that there are 9 types of character values, namely religiosity, hard work, creativity, curiosity, appreciation, friendliness, moral values, love to read, social awareness, and responsibility. The frequency of appearance friendliness moral values (64 times), love to read (32 times), social awareness (11 times), creativity and hard work (8 times), appreciation (5 times), curiosity (4 times), and religiosity and responsibility (3 times). These findings highlight the importance of character values in 21st century learning, particularly in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). In conclusion, this book already contains character values in it, although not all character values have been included in this textbook. Abstract

Thisystudyyaims to identify whether the use of textless comic improveedthe students’sskill in writing recount texts. The subject of this study were the eight gradedstudents of Public Junior High School in Central Java. The method study was a ClassroomaActionnResearch. Theestudy was conducteddinntwoocycles. Todcollecttthe data, thedresearcherrusedstest such asdpre-test andppost-test. To analyzedthe data, therresearcher used quantitative datadanalysiscby using mean score. The researcher used a formula proposes by Arikunto (2010) to count the meantscore. The resulttof the research show that textlesstcomictmediascan improvesthe students’tskilltinawritingrrecount texts. The improvements of the students’twriting skill were in composing a logical sequence of ideas. Besides, the improvementoofcthe students’wwriting skillrcan be seen from the students’ writing achievement. The result of meantscore formpre-testkwas 56, in post-tests1, it was 72, and inppost-test 2, it was 77. It cannbe concluded that textlessdcomicmmedia can improve the students’dwriting skill especially in determining the logical sequence of stories in writing recount text.Keyword: Writing Skill, Textless Comic Media, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability of 8th grade students at SMPN 18 Surakarta in the academic year 2022/2023. This study is a quantitative study using correlation design. The research sample was 31 grade 8 students selected by cluster random sampling method. The tools used in the study were a vocabulary test and a writing test. This is proven through the results after analyzing two variables using the Person Product Moment formula, with the results rxy 0.685 > rtable at the significance level of 0.05 = 0.355 and both 0.001 = 0.479. This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This means that there is a positive correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability. Keywords: Correlational, Vocabulary Mastery, Writing Ability, Descriptive Text.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation that occurs between students’ habit in listening English song and vocabulary mastery of the eleventh grade students at MAN 1 Surakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year. Quantitative research with correlation method was applied in this research. The sample for this research was 32 students. The researcher used a questionnaire and a vocabulary test to gather the data. The findings of this study revealed a positive relationship between students' habit of listening to English songs and their vocabulary mastery. It is proven by the results after analyzing the two variables using the Person Product Moment formula, with the results of calculation of rxy 0.915 > rtable in the significant level of 0,05 = 0,349 and also 0,001 = 0.554. As a result, the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It indicates that there is a positive correlation between students' habit of listening to English songs and their vocabulary knowledge. Thus, the higher the habit in listening English song, the better their vocabulary mastery. Keywords: Habit in Listening English Song, Vocabulary Mastery, Correlational Study

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade students of SMP N 7 Surakarat in the 2022/2023 academic year. The researcher used the quantitative method. The research gave a questionnaire consisting of 30 items and vocabulary test to gather the data. The finding of this study indicated that there is a positive correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and vocabulary mastery. It is proven by the result of the calculation of rxy 0.556 > rtable in the significance 5% (0.361) and 1% (0.463). Then it could be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is therefore deemed to be accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In this research, it could be concluded that there is a positive correlation of the research between students’ motivation in learning English and students’ vocabulary mastery. That means the motivation in learning English has an impact, the better students’ vocabulary mastery. Key words: Motivation in learning English, Vocabulary mastery, Correlation study

Abstract

 This research was aimed to determine the improve students’ writing skill by using mindmapping to eighth grade students especially in class VIII B of SMP N 7 Surakarta in the2022/2023 academic year. The method used in this research was a Classroom ActionResearch (CAR). The research was conducted in two cycles. The subject was the studentsof SMP N 7 Surakarta in 2022/2023 academic year. This research used test and non-test tocollecting the data. To analize the data, this research used qualitative data and quantitativedata. The qualitative data is consisted of data collection, data reduction, data display,conclusion, and verifying. The quantitative data is consisted of mean score and t-testformula. The result of the research, it can be seen from the mean score of Pre-Test was61.34, Post-Test 1 was 71.21, and Post-Test 2 was 85.28. The t-test value of Cycle I was4.14, and the t-test value of Cycle II was 10.22. The result of the research showed that mindmapping technique can improve the students’ writing skill. It can be seen from the studentswriting achievement. It can be concluded that mind mapping technique can be improvestudents’ writing skill.Keywords: Mind Mapping, Descriptive Writing Skill, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the function of slang words found in The After Party movie directed by Ian Edelman. This research focuses on classifying the function of slang words found in the movie by using the theory of function of slang words proposed by Zhou & Fan (2013). Descriptive qualitative approach was utilized in this research and the data was collected from the movie and the subtitles. The researcher collected the data through watching the movie, reading its subtitles, determining slang words, making notes, and classifying the data. In analyzing data, the researcher implemented interactive model analysis which consisted of four stages of analyzing data; data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The researcher found 85 slang terms uttered by characters from the movie. The characters utilized 12 slang terms to pursuit self-identity as part of particular groups, 52 slang terms to show emotive feelings of the users, and 21 slang terms to achieve politeness in maintaining relationship with others. Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of the Clustering Technique enhances the student’s ability in generating ideas. The subject of this research was 36 students of X.5 class at a public senior high school in Central Java 2022/2023 academic year. This research was categorized as Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. The writing test consisted of pre-test and post-tests to collect the data. The test was given to see how far the students enhanced their descriptive writing ability after the treatment. The data were analyzed by using a scoring rubric by Brown (2001). The result showed that the implementation of clustering technique can enhance the student’s ability to generate ideas in writing descriptive text. The mean score of students in the pre-test was 53.44, in post-test 1 was 56.67, and in post-test 2 was 74.305. There 88% of students (32 out of 36 students) who passed the Minimum Standard Score which is 70 in the or post-test 2. Keywords: Clustering Technique, Writing, Descriptive Text
