Abstract

This research was aimed at : (1) To find out the types of code mixing and code switching used in the Indonesian web series entitled “Layangan Putus” and (2) To find out the reasons of code mixing and code switching used in the Indonesian web series entitled “Layangan Putus”. This method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method, which describes and analyzes the utterances consisting of code mixing and code switching along with the reasons taken from “Layangan Putus” series. The technique of collecting data in this research used non-participant observation and documentation which are in the form of words, phrases, and sentences. To analyze the data, the researcher used qualitative data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman. The result of this research showed that there were: 170 utterances of code mixing, 246 utterances of code switching, and 74 utterances of reasons used by the characters. Those 170 utterances of code mixing, it had 95 of insertion, 44 utterances of alternation, and 31 utterances of congruent lexicalization. Those 246 utterances of code switching, it had 17 utterances of tag-switching, 173 utterances of intra-sentential switching, and 56 utterances of inter-sentential switching. Those 74 utterances of the reasons, it had 34 utterances of talking about particular topic, 9 utterances of be emphatic about something, 8 utterances of interjection, 9 utterances of repetition used for clarification, and 14 utterances of intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that insertion type in code mixing, intra-sentential type in code switching, and talking about particular topic were the most dominant used by the characters in “Layangan Putus” series. Abstract

This study aims to find out the moral value in “Turning Red” film and to analyze the most dominant moral values appearing in “Turning Red” film. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The data from this study comes from “Turning Red” film and the script. In collecting the data, the researcher watched the film, studied the script and the scenes then collected the data by taking notes, the researcher selected and classified the data, put it in the table and verified the data by making conclusion of data findings. To ensure the validity of the data, the researcher used data source triangulation and theory triangulation. The result of this research showed that there are twelve moral values that can be found in “Turning Red” film, such as dishonesty and honesty, courage, peaceability, self-reliance and potential, self-discipline and moderation, fidelity and chastity, loyalty, respect, love, unselfishness and sensitivity, kindness and friendliness, justice and law. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characterization and the feminism reflection of Jo March in the Little Women movie. This study employed a feminist perspective and was descriptive qualitative research. Greta Gerwig's script and direction of the Little Women film served as the basis for the information. Jo March is a young middle-class woman with a tall physique, brown hair, and grey eyes, according to the findings of this study. An ambitious, independent, grumpy, smart, clumsy, and caring individual is how Jo March was described. By proving her independence and capacity for comfortable living without being married to a wealthy man, she defies the stereotype. She published her book under her own name and actively took part in the then-current battle for women's rights in the public sphere.Keywords: Character, Characterization, Feminism, Gender Equality

Abstract

This study is qualitative descriptive research. The purpose of this research is to know kind of interrogative sentences and translation techniques impact to the translation quality in The Terminal movie subtitle. The source of data is the film transcript of The Terminal movie and its subtitle in Indonesian, and the information collected from rater. The technique of data collection was watching the movie, reading the script, and marking the interrogative sentences. In analyzing data, the researcher used the qualitative data analysis which covers domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, and componential analysis. Had been found 114 data, yes-no question (57,97%), wh-question (41,19%), and alternative question (0,87%), 2) the translation technique could be found in The Terminal movie, such as established equivalent (72,08%), variation (15,83%), pure borrowing (3,12%), modulation (2,91%), implicit (1,87%), paraphrase (1,25%), explicit (1,04%), reduction (0,83%), transposition (0,62%), generalization (0,20%), and substitution (0,20%). The impact of the application of those translation techniques, toward the translation quality is the overall quality score 2,98 with the average score of accuracy 2,97, acceptability 2,99, and readability 2,99. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the students reading comprehension ability on narrative text based on the four levels of comprehension skills at eleventh Grade Students of SMA N1 Slogohimo. This research used qualitative descriptive research To describe the students reading comprehension in narrative text based on the four level comprehension skill for eleventh Grade Students of SMA N1 Slogohimo. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaires and interview with the teacher and students. After collecting the data the researcher analyzed the data by using via data triangulation to analyzed qualitative data. To collect the data of questionnaire and interview, the researcher use questionnaire by Google Form. The data from questionnaire were analysed by using Likert scale. The result of this research showed that the students’ skill in understanding the implicit facts stated in an informational text, characters in a story, and any other information such as facts, vocabulary, times, and locations was quite high. It could be seen from the score distribution obtained by the students. The research showed that the students level of comprehension skills in comprehending narrative text is average. It can be concluded that the students had difficulties in creative comprehension skill, therefore the students should focus and pay attention on terms of identify reference without ignoring the other aspect of narrative text.Keyword: level of comprehension skill, reading, narrative text

Abstract

This qualitative and descriptive research investigates the translation techniques utilized for restaurant food menus into English and the subsequent impact on translation quality, including accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This qualitative and descriptive research investigates the translation techniques utilized for restaurant food menus into English and the subsequent impact on translation quality, including accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The research data comprises the menu item names and their corresponding English translations, gathered from documents. Precisely explaining technical term abbreviations has been prioritized in the research. The data collection technique involves document analysis. It was discovered through this analysis that the description technique constitutes 66% of the total techniques used, with common equivalence at 23% and pure borrowing + common equivalence at 4.8%. The least frequent techniques were pure borrowing, variation borrowing, and explicitness + conventional equivalence, all at 0.9%. In general, the quality of translation for the restaurant's food menu is very good, with an average rating of 2.93, which is above the average for translation quality. Abstract

 The study aims to analyze the moral value and character education in the movie “ThePeanut Butter Falcon”. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The datacollected by researcher were watching the film, reading the script of film, and notetaking record all data film. The researcher used the validity triangulation data andtriangulation theory to check the validation. The result of the research showed therewere eight moral value that could be found in “The Peanut Butter Falcon” movie suchas honesty, bravery, confidence, peace, dependability, respect, friendship, and mercy.And for character education there were four character educational could be found in“The Peanut Butter Falcon” movie such as hardworking, kindness, loving goodness andresponsibility.Keywords: Moral Value, Character Education, The Peanut Butter Falcon

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of discourse analysis of songs entitled “Ghost” by Justin Bieber. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection in the research was listening, watching, reading and taking notes all data from the song. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. The result of the research showed that in song entitled “Ghost” by Justin Bieber was divided into three aspects, they were socio cultural aspect, grammatical aspect (reference and conjunction) and lexical aspect (repetition and collocation). All aspects were important in understanding the context of the song. Key words: Discourse Analysis, Song, Justin Bieber.

Abstract

 This research was find out whether the use of pictures series based on localwisdom can improve students' developing of ideas in writing narrative texts at one ofpublic junior high school in central java.This method used in this research was a Classroom Action Research. Theresearch was conducted in two cycles in April 2022/2023 academic year. The researchwas the 32 students at one of public junior high school in central java in 2022/2023academic year. In collecting the data, the researcher used test and non-test such asobservation, interview, and documentation. To analysis data, the researcher usedqualitative and quantitative data analysis. The qualitative data analysis method that wasused proposed by Miles and Huberman analysis that consisted of data collection, datareduction, data display, and conclusion. To analyze the quantitative data, the researcherused mean score of the test.The result of the research show that pictures series based on local wisdom canimprove the students’ developing of ideas in writing narrative texts. The improvementof the students’ writing skill can be seen from the students writing achievement. Theresult of mean score for pre-test was 55, in post-test 1, it was 64, and in post-test 2, itwas 75. It can be concluded that pictures series based on local wisdom can improve thestudents’ writing skill especially in developing idea the sequence of stories in writingnarrative text.Keywords: Writing Skill, Pictures Series Media, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this research were to figure out and describe the types of grammatical simple present tense errors are found in the one of vocational high school in West Kalimantan 2022/2023. This research used qualitative case study research to analysis the students’ writing ability in descriptive text using present tense based on the four level type of errors: omission, addition, selection and ordering for the one of vocational high school in West Kalimantan. It was conducted on February 2023. The researcher took 12 students as the sample. The subjects of this research was the the one of vocational high school in West Kalimantan 2022/2023 academic year. To collect the data, the researcher used essay writing test with students. After collected the dataafrom the subjects the researcher analysis the dataaby using error analysis method to analyzed qualitative data. The resultaof thisaresearch showedathat the students level of writing skills in descriptive text using present tense is average. The result of this research showed that the students most errors was in error of selection, The most difficult category in writing was in grammatical problem therefore the students should foccus and pay attention on terms of identify reference without ignoring the other aspect of rules of language.
