Abstract

This research aimskat finding out whetherktherekiska significant correlation between the habit oflwatchinglEnglish moviesland vocabularylmastery at seventh-grade students of SMPlNegeril1 Colomadu. Thislresearchlwas conducted atlthe seventh gradelof SMPlNegeril1 Colomadulin 2020/2021 AcademiclYear. The researcher used a correlational study which was conducted from December 2020 until May 2021 at the class of VII E. The study was divided into two phases, each of which included two meetings. Each meeting also included data collection through the use of a Google Form. In order tolanalyze quantitativeldata, the researcherlusedlquestionnaires and tests. Based onlthelresult oflthe study, it showedlthatlthe coefficient of the correlationlbetween watchinglmovie habits andlvocabularylmastery was 0.685 withlthe levellsignificant 5% for theldegree oflfreedom (df) = 29 the rltable is 0.367, and the level significant 1% for theldegreeloflfreedom (df) = 29 the rltable is 0.470. By using coefficient correlation, criteria 0.685 is classified to interval 0.600 – 0.800 in the indexes of correlation which is sufficient correlation. It means that r-observation (rxy) was higher than r table and it was concluded that there was alsignificant correlationlbetween watchinglmovie habits andlvocabulary mastery at the seventh-gradelstudents of SMP Nl1 Colomadu inlthe 2020/2021 academiclyear.   Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Watching Movie Habits, Correlational Study

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: 1) To analyze the practices that were carried out in teaching and learning reading by using Google Classroom; 2) To analyze the students perceive the applications and the level of students’ perception towards the Google Classroom in teaching and learning reading; 3) To investigate the students’ behavior level towards the use of Google Classroom in teaching and learning reading. The subjects in this research were eighth-grade learners of State Junior High School 1 (SMP N 1) Colomadu. The students of 8A class, which had 32 students, were the subjects of this study. The research volunteers were chosen using a random sampling approach. The data was gathered by the researcher through observations at the school, interviews with the English teacher, and distribution of questionnaires to participants. The data collection approach is qualitative research, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. According to the findings of this research, students at SMP N 1 Colomadu agree to the implementation of Google Classroom as an online platform for English learning. They believe that Google Classroom has helped them with all aspects of their learning. The integration of Google Classroom for SMP N 1 Colomadu was then successfully completed.   Keyword: Analysis, Google Classroom, Teaching Reading, Perception

Abstract

The present study entitled the relationship between students’ grammar mastery and writing ability on the tenth grade students of SMK Wijaya Kusuma Surakarta. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is significant relationship between students’ grammar mastery and writing ability. Quantitative method with correlation design was used to collect the data. Conducted at SMK Wijaya Kusuma Surakarta in the second semester of 2020/2021 academic year, 28 students of the tenth grade were taken as the sample of this study. Random sampling technique is used in this study. The instruments to obtain the data were grammar mastery test and writing test of writing ability. A try out of grammar test was held to know the validity and 12 numbers of items is valid. To analyze the data, Pearson Product Moment formula was used in manual and computer calculations. Based on the data collected, the mean score of grammar test is 8.36 and the mean score of writing test is 75.79. The result of the analysis shows that the coefficient relationship (rxy ) 0.748. Based on the result of this study, it can be concluded that the grammar mastery had positive relationship with the writing ability on the tenth grade students of SMK Wijaya Kusuma Surakarta.   Keywords: Grammar, Writing Ability, Correlational Study

Abstract

Textbooks were one of the supporting materials for learning. The textbook that was chosen by the teacher has a very big role for students. This can be proven through student learning outcomes in understanding foreign language materials related to culture. That was why researcher conducted research on students' perceptions of understanding the cultural components contained in an English textbook entitled When English Ring a Bell. The purpose of this research was to determine students' perceptions towards cultural component in English textbooks. In this research, the researcher was used descriptive qualitative research. Subject of this research is students of VIII grade SMP Advent Surakarta. This research was used descriptive qualitative and the data were obtained by interviewing English teacher and questionnaires consists of 49 questions that were distributed to the students via Google Forms. The results of the interview with English teacher regarding students' understanding of the use of cultural components in English textbooks indicate that students need to be directly involved in practicing the material in the textbooks, so that students better understand the material even though some students lack of speaking and pronouncing skill. The results of the questionnaire show that students' perceptions of understanding the use of cultural components through textbooks were supported through the role of the teacher, the display design of textbooks and materials that are easy to understand, but not optimal, this is due to the use of additional learning media other than textbooks.   Keywords: Student perception, cultural components, English textbook

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ acceptance towards the use of Google Classroom in learning English at the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 27 Surakarta 2022 / 2023 Academic Year. This study was conducted at the seventh grade students of SMPN 27 Surakarta in the Academic Year 2022/2023. This study applied Descriptive Qualitative (QD). The research was conducted on June-July in 2022/2023 Academic Year. The subject of the research was 32 students of VII A at SMPN 27 Surakarta. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire to students in a form of Google Form and interview with English teacher. To analyze the data, the researcher used qualitative method. The result of this research showed that the used of Google Classroom as an e-learning media has advantages and disadvantages. Google Classroom could help the students learning English easier and make the learning process more interesting. It also showed that with the use of Google Classroom could enhance students’ English skills and more creative. However, there were some obstacles that faced by the students during the use of Google Classroom, that the problem of internet network and quota limited. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know whether there is significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking ability at ninth grade students of SMP N 5 Surakarta. In this research there are two variables , self-confidence as the independent variable, and speaking ability as the dependent variable. To gather the data, a questionnaire and a speaking ability test were used. The results of this study were determined through a quantitative method, and 252 ninth grade students from SMPN 5 Surakarta were involved in the population. From these students, 31 were selected as samples by the researcher. The researcher used a questionnaire with 30 statements to measure students' level of self-confidence. After analyzing the data, it was determined that their level of confidence was high and their level of speaking ability was good. It based on the result of Pearson's Correlation Method, the correlation value was 0.726. This means that the correlation level is high and there is a positive significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking ability and the standard correlation range is between 0.60 and 0.799. This confirms that null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. The data from ninth grade students at SMP N 5 Surakarta shows a significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking ability. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of ecranization the novel entitled “ The Frog Prince” into the movie. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. Reading the novel, watching the movie, and note taking record all data from novel and movie were the data collected by the researcher. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. Abstract

The study aims to analyze the self-denial of the main character in the film entitled ‘Colonia’ by Florian Gallenberger and Torsten Wenzel. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The data collected by researcher were reading the script of film, watching the film, and note taking record all data film. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check the validation. The result of the research showed that form of selfdenial were refusing to talk about the problem, looking for ways to justify their behaviour, lying or ignoring one’s own feelings (manipulative), blaming others for the problems experienced, avoiding thinking about the problem which had the impacts of Lena and another characters namely, lying, breaking the rules, feeling guilty, manipulative, wounding, death. The role of supporting characters in influencing the Lena’s inner conflict could be found in the film Colonia, such as Daniel, Pius, and Gisela.   Key Words: Self-denial, Colonia Film, Lena, Impacts

Abstract

 The objectives of this research were: 1) To find out the analysis context namely Cultural, Social context and Inferential in these poems written by Langston Hughes entitled The Negro Speak Of The River ; 2) To find out the grammatical aspect in Langston Hughes’s poems entitled Negro speaks of the river ; 3) To find out the lexical aspect in Langston Hughes’s poems entitled Negro speaks of the river   The researcher used qualitative research as research method with the type of library research. This research used primary and secondary data as the sources .The techniques of data collection were retrieving the poem of Langston Hughes The Negro Speaks of The River , reading the poem several time, focusing on the sentences of the poems namely the diction, and the figurative word, selecting data, classifying the data, displaying the data, analysing data, interpreting the data, and making the conclusion. In technique of analyzing data, the researcher used interactive data analysis by Miles and Huberman, such as data collecting, data reduction, data displaying, conclusion and verification. To find the validity of the research, was used by triangulation data.   The results of the researcher show that: 1) The Cultural Context, Social Context, and Inferential of poems entitled The Negro Speaks of The Rivers were about the influence of blacks history as a slaves and about the inequity for Blacks. The Social Context were about, racialism and discrimination and about struggling. The Inferential were about refering a longest river as a history of Black people, and giving advice about life condition and also about struggle. 2) The Grammatical aspect in poems The Negro Speaks of The Rivers, were: Reference includes “I”, “Me”, “My”, “It”, “He”, “you”, “rivers”, “vein”, pyramid”, “Ancient dusky”, “the Euphrates”, “the Congo”, and “the Mississippi”. The Conjunction in these poems were “as”, “and”, and “when”. 3) Lexical Aspect in poems The Negro Speaks of The Rivers were: Repetition in these poems were Assonance use vowel /o/ sound, and Consonant Repetition. Synonym in these poems were “ancient…and older”. Collocation in these poems were “I’ve” “I’ll”, “ain’t”, “don’t”, “it’s”, and “I’se”. This research result showed the Cultural Context, Social Context, and Inferential of these poems was refers to the history of Black People in America as a slaves. The Grammatical and Lexical Aspects also presented in these poems. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of educational and moral values in the film entitled “Green Book”. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. Watching the film, read the script, and taking note all data from film was the data collected by the researcher. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. The result of the research showed that educational value in the Green Book film was character education and moral value in the Green Book film divided into 2 categories there were value of being and value of giving.   Key Words: Educational Value, Moral Value, Character Education, Green Book Film.
