Abstract

This study aims to analyse the kinds and forms of expressive speech acts in the movie entitled Luca. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The researcher watching movie, taking notes, organizing the data into several parts based on classification. The researcher collected and classified the data then make conclusion. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. The result of the research showed that there were 9 kinds expressive speech acts; thank, apologizing, congratulation, greeting, wishes, attitudes, praising, blaming, and forgiving and there were 3 forms of expressive speech acts; direct literal speech act, indirect literal speech act, direct non-literal speech act.   Key words: Expressive Speech Acts, Luca Movie

Abstract

The present study entitled a correlation between students reading habit and their ability to write caption on Instagram on tenth grade students of SMK Wijaya Kusuma Surakarta. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there were a significant relationship between reading habit and ability to write caption. Qualitative method with correlation design was used collect the data. The instruments to obtain the data were reading habit and ability to write caption. To analyze the data, Person Product Moment formula was used in manual and computer calculations. Based on the data collected, the mean score of reading habit are 78.6 and the score of write caption are 62.8. The analysis showed that a coefficient ratio (rxy) of 0.088. Based on the result of this study, it can be conclude that there were a positive correlation between reading habit and their ability to write caption on Instagram on tenth grade students of SMK Wijaya Kusuma Surakarta.   Keywords: Reading Habits, Writing Caption Ability, Correlation study, Instagram

Abstract

The aims of the research were: to analyze perceived usefulness in using Google Form in the learning English. This study was descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire to student and interview to teacher. To collect the data of the questionnaire the researcher used the table questionnaire by Google Form. The researcher used Source triangulation, Triangulation technique and Time triangulation to check validation. The result of the research the result of the research, it can be concluded that from several questionnaires using Google Form in learning English can help the student, the learning more interesting, can save time, save energy, and enhance the students’ English skills. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cultural value in the movie entitled Miracle in Cell No.7. The researcher used qualitative method. Reading the script, watching the movie, and note taking record all data movie were the data collected by the researcher. Abstract

This study aims to the moral values which were described by the characters in the “Maleficent” film. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. Reading the script, watching the movie, and note taking record all data from the script and film were the data collected by the researcher. The researcher used the validity triangulation data and triangulation theory to check validation. The result of the research showed that there are moral values that could be found in the film entitled “Maleficent”, such as honesty, bravery, peaceability, selfconfidence, self-discipline, loyalty, respect, love and affection, kind and friendly, and fair and human that depicted by the characters of Maleficent, Aurora, King Stefan, Diaval, and Prince Philip.   Keywords: Moral values, The Maleficent I movie, Descriptive Qualitatives

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery at the eighth-grade students of SMP K Bharata 2 Jumapolo in the 2022-2023 academic year. The researcher used the quantitative method. The research gave a questionnaire consisting of 30 items and a vocabulary test to gather the data. The finding of this study indicated that there is a positive correlation between students’ habits of watching English movies and students’ vocabulary mastery. It is proven by the result of the calculation of rxy 0. 549 > rtable in the significant table 5% (0.396) and1% (0.505). Then it could be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is therefore deemed to be accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In this research, it could be concluded that there is a positive correlation of the research between students’ habits of watching English movies and students’ vocabulary mastery. That means the habit of watching English has an impact, the better student vocabulary mastery.   Key words: Habit Watching English Movie, Vocabulary Mastery, Correlational Study

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation that occurs between students' emotional intelligence with the English speaking skills of eighth-grade students at SMP K Bharata 2 Jumapolo during the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used quantitative methods as well as correlational techniques. The result of this study showed that there is a positive correlation between students' emotional intelligence and students' English speaking skills. It is proven by the results after analyzing the two variables using the Person Product Moment formula, rxy= 0.494. From the results of rx : r table = 0.494 > 0.367 and at a degree of significance of 1% rx : r table = 0.494 > 0.470. It can be concluded that the Null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is a positive correlation between students' emotional intelligence and students' English speaking skills. Thus, the higher the students' emotional intelligence, the better their speaking skills.   Key words: Students’ Emotional Intelligence, Speaking Skill, Correlational Study.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze a ‘google classroom application in teaching writing’ at eleven grade students of SMA Islam 1 Surakarta. This study was carried out in the academic year 2021/2022 at eleven grade students SMA Islam 1 Surakarta. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The researcher took 34 students of SMA Islam 1 Surakarta as the sample. The researcher researcher used questionnaires and interview with the teacher and students. To collect the data of questionnaire and interview, the researcher use questionnaire by Google Form. The data from questionnaire were analysed by using Likert scale. After collecting the data the researcher analyzed the data by using data triangulation to analyzed qualitative data. The result of this research showed that the implementation of Google Classroom in Teaching Writing was the student’s responsibility is good enough. The strengths and weakness of Google Classroom in Teaching Writing was the students who feel they can focus on learning lessons using Google Classroom, which according to them, the learning media is very interesting and plentiful.   Key words: Google Classroom, Writing, Online Learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ attitude towards the use of Google Classroom in English learning at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 27 Surakarta 2022 / 2023 Academic Year. This study was conducted in the eighth grade of SMPN 27 Surakarta 2022 / 2023 Academic Year. The researchers utilize descriptive research which was conducted from June until July. The students of VIII-E were the subject of this research with totally of 30 students. Questionnaires to the students, interviewing the English teacher, and observing the class were the data collected by the researchers. To analyze the data, the researchers used qualitative data. The result of the research showed that the use of Google Classroom in learning English provides advantages and disadvantages for students. Using Google Classroom is quite effective for use in online learning. However, the use of Google Classroom in learning English is not good if it is applied continuously because it will make students difficult to learn English and improve their English skills. Most of the students also disagree that using Google Classroom is more flexible than face-to-face learning. Could be concluded that learning English using Google Classroom is quite helpful in learning during the pandemic, but the use of Google Classroom is not recommended to be used continuously in learning English. Abstract

This research were aimed : 1) to find out the types of errors using Simple Past Tense in the Eighth Grade Students, 2) to know the most dominant error made by the students of using Simple Past Tense in the Eighth Grade Students, 3) to identify the causes of error found in using Simple Past Tense in the Eighth Grade Students. This research was conducted on December 2021 until January 2022. The researcher took 25 students in class VIII B of MTs Negeri 3 Sukoharjo. This research was descriptive qualitative research with the type of Error Analysis. To collect the data, the researcher used test, interview and documentation. The data were analyzed by using percentage formula by Corder. The result of the research show that : 1) There were four types of errors found, 138 or 57% error of Omission, 50 or 20% error in Addition, 51 or 21% error in Misformation, and 5 or 2% error in Misordering. The students made total of 244 errors. 2) The most dominant error made by the students of using Simple Past Tense was Omission, because the students made errors by omitting some words and made incomplete sentences. 3) The causes of error found in using Simple Past Tense was the students’ carelessness. It can be concluded that the students had many errors in answering and changing sentences into Simple Past Tense in positive, negative and interrogative forms.
