Abstract

Science learning not only aims to improve conceptual mastery but also to develop students' critical thinking skills. One medium that can be used to support this goal is instructional videos. This article aims to examine the role of instructional videos in developing students' critical thinking skills in science learning. The method used is a literature study, analyzing various sources, including journals, books, and scientific articles relevant to the use of instructional videos and critical thinking skills. The results of the study indicate that instructional videos can increase student engagement in the learning process, help students understand abstract science concepts, and encourage students to observe, analyze, ask questions, and draw conclusions based on the information obtained. Furthermore, the use of instructional videos can create a more engaging and contextual learning experience, enabling students to actively explore the material. Thus, instructional videos play a crucial role as a learning medium that can support the development of students' critical thinking skills in science learning. Therefore, teachers need to utilize instructional videos appropriately and integrate them with learning activities that encourage students to think critically.

Abstract

Advances in information technology in today's digital era require extensive specialized training to develop digital literacy skills, one of which is the use of data processing applications such as Microsoft Excel. However, many junior high school students still lack a thorough grasp of Microsoft Excel. Therefore, this community service initiative is designed to improve students' digital skills through Microsoft Excel training at Darul Muwahhidin Islamic Junior High School. This activity was implemented in person through several stages: preparation, training, practice, discussion, and evaluation. The material taught included an introduction to the Microsoft Excel interface, the application of basic formulas such as SUM, COUNTIF, and AVERAGE, managing data tables, and creating simple graphs. The results of this activity showed that the students enjoyed the face-to-face training, receiving positive feedback from both the school and the students. Most students began to understand the basics of Microsoft Excel and were able to perform simple data processing tasks such as attendance and grade recaps. Participant satisfaction levels indicated that 60% of students had a good grasp of the material, and 20% were very satisfied with the training. This activity has had a positive impact on improving students' data processing skills, critical thinking skills, and interest in information technology. Therefore, this Microsoft Excel training serves as a tool for us to more effectively support students' digital literacy development in the modern era.

Abstract

Critical reasoning and communication are key dimensions of the deep learning graduate profile that should be fostered in science education; however, these skills have not yet been optimally developed. This study aimed to produce a valid, practical, and effective science literacy-based electronic student worksheet (e-LKM) using Liveworksheets to enhance critical reasoning and communication skills regarding the topic of temperature and heat. A Research and Development (R&D) approach utilizing the ADDIE model was employed. The study subjects consisted of 32 students from class VII G at SMP Negeri 3 Banjarmasin. Data collection involved validation sheets, student response questionnaires, pre-test and post-test questions on critical reasoning, and communication skill observation sheets. The results indicated that the e-LKM achieved a validity score of 0.88, a practicality score of 90.05%, and an effectiveness score (based on n-gain) of 0,77, placing it in the high category. Consequently, the e-LKM is deemed valid, practical, and effective for use in science instruction.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential competency through which students are able to comprehend scientific concepts and apply them in everyday life. This study aimed to investigate how Google Sites learning media influences students' scientific literacy in the topic of heat and temperature. Quasi-experimental approach with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design was employed in this study. Participants included of 68 seven-grade students from SMP Negeri 31 Banjarmasin and were assigned to experimental group and a control group. Scientific literacy tests and student response questionnaires were used to colled the data, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the N-Gain analysis, prerequisite testing, and the Independent Samples t-test. The finding showed that students who learned through Google Sites significantly higher scientific literacy compared with conventional learning methods. Additionally, studentsexpressed very positive responses toward the implementation of the learning media. Therefore, Google Sites learning mediais effective inm improving students' scientific literacy in science learning.
