Abstract

This study aims to obtain data on the music learning process using the Learning By Doing method with the melodica as a musical instrument for visually impaired sixth-grade students at SLB-A Pembina Tingkat Nasional (Special School for the Blind). Learning By Doing emphasizes the active involvement of students in the learning process. This is particularly relevant for visually impaired students, as they rely more heavily on their sense of hearing and touch to receive information. To gain a clear understanding of the stages of music learning using this method, the researcher employed a descriptive approach. Several data collection techniques were used, including interviews, observation of learning activities, document analysis, and field notes. The study was conducted over the course of one semester. The results of the research show that the implementation of the Learning By Doing method in music education involves three main stages: the planning stage (lesson plans and syllabus), the implementation stage (interactive learning and hands-on practice), and the evaluation stage. The application of Learning By Doing increased student engagement and understanding of basic musical tone concepts, and also supported their musical skills, auditory abilities, and experience in recognizing expression through sound. Thus, the Learning By Doing method is effective in teaching music to visually impaired students because it provides a concrete and meaningful learning experience.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the visual meaning in the anime film poster Suzume using the visual semiotics approach by Kress and van Leeuwen, supported by Adi Kusrianto’s visual communication theory and Rustan’s visual elements. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on typography, illustration, color, and layout. The findings show that the Suzume poster conveys a profound message through the combination of visual elements and semiotic structure. The transitional serif typography creates a classic and serious impression. The illustrations depict the main characters and symbols such as the door and chair, representing themes of journey, disaster, and personal growth. Dominant colors like blue, orange, white, and green evoke specific emotions and strengthen the visual message. The analysis based on visual metafunctions reveals that, representationally, the poster portrays the protagonist's mission to close disaster-causing doors. Interpersonally, it builds an emotional connection through the characters’ expressions and gestures. Compositionally, it demonstrates effective visual balance. In conclusion, the Suzume poster successfully conveys the film’s thematic message through strong and communicative visual design.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the visual potential of the goldfish as a source of inspiration in the creation of hand-drawn batik works by incorporating traditional Mandailing ornaments. The goldfish was selected due to its strong symbolic meaning in local culture, representing luck, prosperity, and happiness. Meanwhile, Mandailing ornaments rich in philosophical and aesthetic cultural values serve as supporting elements that strengthen the visual identity of the work. The creative method used in this study follows the approach proposed by Husen Hendriyana, consisting of four stages: preparation, imagination (exploration), development of imagination (design), and realization (execution). The creative process involves illustrating the form of the goldfish combined harmoniously with distinctive Mandailing motifs such as bona bolu, bindu pusuk ni robung, burangir/aropik, sipatomu-tomu, bintang na toras, rudang, raga-raga, sancang duri, jagar-jagar, bondul na opat, tagan, bintang dohot tolu lingkaran, timbangan, podang, gancip, takar, pinggan, mataniari, horis, loding/upak, bintang, alaman bolak, parbincar mataniari, gimbang, lotus flower, and gumbot. The outcome of this research consists of 12 hand-drawn batik artworks applied as wall decorations using a contemporary approach. These works function both aesthetically and educationally, as well as decoratively. The artworks are expected to contribute to the development of hand-drawn batik as a visual art form that adapts to modern times, while also promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Mandailing through a broader visual format.

Abstract

Wayang kulit is a traditional art form that embodies moral, social, and spiritual values, while representing human life. In today’s social context, marked by challenges such as power manipulation, economic inequality, and the decline of moral values, wayang kulit remains relevant as a medium of reflection and social critique. This artistic creation applies Bandem’s consortium art method with five stages: preparation, elaboration, synthesis, concept realization, and completion. Through contemporary painting, wayang kulit characters are reinterpreted in expressive and symbolic visual styles. The artwork serves not only as an artistic expression but also as a cultural preservation effort that bridges traditional values with contemporary realities. It is expected that this work will strengthen cultural awareness, function as a medium of social critique, and open broader opportunities for artistic exploration

Abstract

Animated films are not only a medium of entertainment but also an effective tool for delivering moral, social, and educational values through innovative storytelling and engaging visual styles. In Indonesia, although many animated films are broadcast on national television, only a limited number originate from domestic creators. This condition highlights the need to strengthen local creative content that reflects Indonesia’s cultural and environmental identity. The present design project aims to develop an alternative television program in the form of a 2D animated film that emphasizes the preservation of Mentilin, an endemic animal of Bangka Island, while simultaneously serving as an educational medium for the local community. The research and design process employed a qualitative approach, focusing on data collection through observation, interviews, and literature review to identify effective strategies for socialization and education. The animation production of Mentilin, The Tiny Tarsier was carried out in three main stages: pre-production, including concept development and storyboarding; production, involving character design, background creation, and animation; and post-production, which covered editing, sound design, and final rendering. The preliminary evaluation indicated that the animation successfully captured local cultural elements and delivered messages about environmental awareness in an engaging manner. This design is expected not only to provide a creative educational platform for the community but also to contribute to the broader efforts of environmental preservation and the development of Indonesia’s animation industry. Furthermore, the program has the potential to be expanded as a replicable model for other regions in promoting endemic species conservation through creative media.

Photography has evolved into several disciplines, including landscape photography, wedding photography, street photography, photojournalism, and product photography. Product photography is a high-quality photograph taken to showcase and explain the characteristics and details of a product or service. It not only serves as a representation of the product being offered but also serves as an effective marketing strategy. This applies to the culinary industry, particularly in cakes and food products, where product photography is essential to attract consumers' attention and enhance brand identity. In the case of Dee's Kitchen, the business owner believes that providing good store reviews and creating a positive image for the brand require the influence of influencers. Abstract

The musical work “Syurga di Telapak Kaki Ibu” is a rearrangement of the Malay song composed by S. Effendi in 1990 and popularized by Aishah. This work highlights moral and religious values about honoring mothers. The purpose of this study is to describe the creative process of rearranging “Syurga di Telapak Kaki Ibu” using the rentak langgam format characteristic of Malay music. A descriptive–qualitative approach with a work-study method was employed. Data were collected through observation, literature review, and the composer’s five-month practice. The results show a new arrangement featuring a mournful melody, flowing harmonies, and the application of ornamentation techniques such as cengkok and grenek on melodic instruments (gambus oud, sape, bamboo flute, violin, accordion). The arrangement is structured in intro, verse, interlude, verse, interlude, and coda to create more varied emotional nuances while preserving the original essence of the song. This work is expected to strengthen the existence of classic Malay songs in the era of modern music and serve as a reference for students and traditional music practitioners in creating innovative works based on cultural heritage.

Abstract

River pollution has become one of the serious environmental issues in Indonesia, including in the Gelis River in Kudus City. The lack of public awareness—especially among the younger generation—in maintaining river cleanliness highlights the need for effective and engaging educational media. This study aims to design an Android-based educational game as an interactive learning tool for children aged 7 to 12 years to raise their awareness about the importance of keeping rivers clean. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), employing the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The game developed, titled RiverCourse: Petualangan Menjaga Sungai (RiverCourse: The Adventure of Protecting the River), features a sidescrolling mechanic with a visual style combining pixel art and cartoons, suited to the cognitive development stage of children. Testing was conducted on the target age group through observation and simple questionnaires.
