Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is an essential aspect in production processes, especially in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which are vulnerable to various workplace hazards. In tofu production industries, workers are often exposed to physical, chemical, mechanical, and ergonomic risks that can impact productivity and health. This study aims to analyze the types of occupational hazards and determine appropriate control measures using the HIRARC method. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through a case study in one tofu-producing MSME in Batang Regency. Data collection methods included direct observation, semi-structured interviews with 15 workers, and documentation. Hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control were conducted using the HIRARC method based on severity and likelihood. The study found multiple risks ranging from low to high levels, such as musculoskeletal disorders, burns, hearing loss, skin irritation, and respiratory issues. Proposed control strategies included the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls such as ventilation and insulation, and administrative interventions. The findings indicate that the HIRARC method is effective for evaluating and managing OHS risks in MSMEs. This approach can support the implementation of a safer and healthier work environment in informal food production sectors.

Abstract

The shift toward a modern lifestyle increasingly dependent on technology has created new challenges in the field of health, particularly among adolescents. Junior high school students are a vulnerable group to sedentary lifestyles, characterized by limited physical activity due to passive habits such as using gadgets and watching television. This condition affects both the physical and mental health of students, highlighting the need for effective health education strategies to foster active living habits from an early age. This study aims to analyze students’ health literacy levels and their needs in preventing sedentary lifestyles. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed at SMPN 1 Bajawa, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The research sample consisted of 152 students selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) covering demographic information, health literacy, and the needs and barriers to adopting an active lifestyle. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and inferentially using SPSS version 26, applying the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test and Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results showed that students’ health literacy levels were categorized as moderate to high (mean = 78.45), while the need for sedentary lifestyle prevention was at a moderate level (mean = 74.63). There was a strong and significant positive correlation (r = 0.648; p < 0.05) between health literacy and the need for sedentary lifestyle prevention. It was concluded that improving health literacy plays a crucial role in fostering students’ awareness of the importance of an active lifestyle. Therefore, participatory and contextual educational programs in schools are essential to promote sustainable healthy behaviors.

Abstract

In 2020, the number of women who had entered menopause reached 30,3 million people, equivalent to 15,3% of Indonesia's total population. In the menopause phase, there are quality of life changes in women, including changes in hormone function, especially in the serotonin hormone. This study aims to determine the correlation between serotonin hormone levels and the level of quality of life: psychosocial of menopausal women. This study uses a correlational design with cross-sectional data collection. The population of all menopausal women was 105, aged 45-65 years in the Pakis and Polowijen Districts of Malang City, with a sample of 83 taken using purposive sampling with the criteria of having entered menopause less than 5 years ago, having a husband, and not having had a uterus removed. The data collection instrument used MENQOL (Menopause Quality of Life) and ELISA techniques. The results of this study stated that there was a significant correlation between serotonin values and the level of quality of life:psychosocial of menopausal women (spearman rho correlation; ρ value = 0.000; r = 0.734), with details of more than half of respondents (52%) have a good quality of life: psychosocial and the majority of respondents (63%) who had low serotonin values. These results indicate that serotonin values correlate significantly with the level of quality of life:psychosocial in menopausal women. As serotonin levels decrease, the quality of life:psychosocial also decreases, thus changes in quality of life: psychosocial can be reduced by carrying out certain activities and maintaining good and positive social and family relationships.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia, which occurs due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Risk factors for diabetes mellitus include genetic factors and age. One of the initial diagnostic methods for blood glucose disorders is the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The purpose of this study is to describe the results of OGTT in the first-generation family members of diabetes mellitus patients. This research is of an experimental laboratory nature, involving the administration of 75 grams of glucose to 10 family members, where one of their parents is a diabetes mellitus patient. Sample collection is done using the test strip method. The research findings show that out of the 10 first-generation family members of diabetes mellitus patients, one child experienced an increase in glucose levels after the administration of 75 grams of glucose, from 119 mg/dL to 204 mg/dL. Based on the criteria of the Indonesian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (PERKEMI), this child can be categorized as having diabetes mellitus. Furthermore, three other children are at risk of prediabetes due to having parents with a history of diabetes mellitus. The glucose levels of these three children increased after the administration of 75 grams of glucose, reaching 141 mg/dL (previously 117 mg/dL), 143 mg/dL (previously 104 mg/dL), and 131 mg/dL (previously 117 mg/dL), in accordance with PERKEMI criteria.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is a major health problem in Indonesia and globally, with significant incidence and mortality rates. Early detection through Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) examination is a crucial step in cervical cancer prevention and control. However, many Women of Childbearing Age (WUS) still hold negative perceptions and face obstacles in undergoing VIA examinations. This study aims to explore the experiences of WUS who have undergone VIA examinations and identify the factors influencing their decisions. This research employs a descriptive phenomenological approach to understand the experiences of WUS in depth. Eight informants, patients at Puskesmas Kembangan, West Jakarta, were interviewed in detail to gather data. The results of the study found 5 major themes, namely the WUS's response during the examination, how to overcome discomfort during the examination, the purpose of the VIA examination, factors influencing the decision to undergo VIA examination, and reproductive health promotion. This study has received ethical approval from the STIK Sint Carolus Institution. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews from July 2024 to March 2025. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to efforts to increase WUS participation in early detection of cervical cancer.
