Abstract

The pregnancy period is a crucial time for ensuring the health of the mother and fetus through the provision of balanced nutrition. However, nutritional issues such as anemia and chronic energy deficiency (CED) are still commonly found among pregnant women. The use of local nutritious foods, such as moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera), can be a potential solution to support nutritional needs. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in preparing healthy menus and balanced eating patterns using moringa leaves. The activity was carried out through interactive lectures, coaching on menu preparation, cooking demonstrations of moringa leaf dishes, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The participants were pregnant women in the working area of the Wara Selatan Health Center in Palopo City, totaling 25 people. The results showed an increase in participants' nutritional knowledge, with an average pre-test score of 55 rising to 82 in the post-test. Participants were also able to prepare a balanced daily menu based on moringa leaves and produce several processed products, including moringa soup, moringa fritters, and moringa pudding. It can be concluded that the healthy menu coaching activity using local moringa leaves effectively improves the knowledge and skills of pregnant women regarding balanced nutrition. The use of local foods such as moringa leaves has the potential to support the improvement of maternal nutritional status in a simple, economical, and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Breast milk (ASI) is the primary and natural food for newborns, providing the necessary energy and nutrients from birth to six months of life, promoting optimal growth and development. However, according to information obtained, about 30% of mothers face challenges in breastfeeding, particularly during the first few days after delivery. To address this issue, interventions such as breast care and oxytocin massage can stimulate breast milk production and prevent issues like mastitis. Oxytocin massage helps stimulate the milk ejection reflex, while breast care ensures the cleanliness of the breasts, making it easier for the baby to latch. The aim of this community service activity is to enhance mothers' knowledge through an educational program focused on oxytocin massage and breast care to improve milk production in postpartum mothers. The method used for this activity is an interactive educational session using tools like PowerPoint and leaflets, followed by a Q&A session and discussion. The evaluation was conducted through oral questioning, as well as by observing participants' enthusiasm during the session. The expected outcome of this activity is to provide mothers with practical knowledge and skills on breast care and stimulating breast milk production, ultimately supporting successful exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Early marriage remains a significant issue in Indonesia, including in South Sulawesi, with negative impacts on health, education, and social welfare. These impacts include high school dropout rates, reproductive health issues, and increased maternal and infant mortality rates. This community service activity aims to provide education and counseling to second-semester students of the Faculty of Business at Universitas Mega Buana Palopo regarding the dangers of early marriage and the importance of future planning. The methods used in this activity include lectures, group discussions, and individual counseling. Through the lectures, students were provided with information about the health, social, and psychological risks associated with early marriage. Group discussions aimed to enhance students' understanding and awareness of the importance of education and future planning before marriage. Additionally, individual counseling was conducted to provide more personalized support related to issues students might face. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' knowledge and awareness of the negative impacts of early marriage, as well as a positive attitude toward preventing early marriage. This activity is expected to serve as a sustainable campus-based early marriage prevention model that can be applied to other universities. With proper education and counseling, it is hoped that students will make wiser decisions regarding marriage and future planning. Improved knowledge will reduce the prevalence of early marriage and mitigate its negative effects on individuals and society.

Abstract

This research aims to study and offer solutions to the problem of fruit flies that attack citrus plantations in Gadingkulon Village through the Integrated Pest Control (PHT) approach. Fruit fly attacks have caused significant losses to citrus farmers, so an effective and sustainable control strategy is needed. PHT is implemented by integrating mechanical methods in the form of garden sanitation and yellow trap installation, as well as renewable technology approaches to suppress the population and life cycle of fruit flies. This activity is carried out through the stages of socialization, training, and group discussion forums (FGD) which involve the active participation of farmers as subjects as well as agents of change. This participatory approach aims to improve farmers' understanding and skills in implementing PHT techniques independently and consistently. The results of the activity showed that the combination of mechanical and educational methods was able to significantly reduce the intensity of fruit fly attacks. In addition, the benefits of this program can be reviewed from the economic aspect, in the form of increasing crop yields and farmers' income, as well as the ecological aspect, in the form of reducing the use of chemical pesticides that have a negative impact on the environment. Thus, the implementation of PHT in Gadingkulon Village shows great potential to be replicated in other areas that face similar problems, in order to support sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural development.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) of Universitas Sebelas Maret, Group 217, conducted in Tegalweru Village, Dau District, Malang Regency, was designed to strengthen local economic capacity through strategies of value-added product development and the consolidation of MSME identity based on village potential. The socio-cultural homogeneity of the community, which largely depends on traditional agriculture, creates a paradox between strong social solidarity and weak economic diversification. This condition poses challenges such as limited innovation, low competitiveness, and the underutilization of local resources, thereby necessitating empowerment interventions capable of transforming traditional economic practices into more adaptive and sustainable business models. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation to explore community responses to training on product value addition, packaging, branding, and basic promotional strategies. The findings reveal increased awareness and enthusiasm among MSME actors and housewives to develop local products through simple processing, representative packaging, and distinctive brand identity. These results underscore that KKN not only serves as an implementation of the Higher Education Tri Dharma but also as a strategic empowerment instrument to reinforce the foundation of community-based economic independence. Practically, the program provides a transformative platform for local enterprises, laying the groundwork for sustainable economic development aligned with both global dynamics and the specific needs of rural communities.

Abstract

This community service article presents the implementation of the GELORA outreach and training program conducted in Sebanen Village, Jember, Indonesia, focusing on the promotion of low-cost and eco-friendly fermented feeds formulated from locally available agricultural residues such as papaya leaves, rice bran, molasses, and EM4. The program aimed to strengthen the capacity of smallholder catfish farmers and the village enterprise (BUMDes) through a series of integrated activities including a rapid needs assessment, hands-on training sessions, technical mentoring, and knowledge dissemination. As a result, participants demonstrated improved technical skills in household-scale feed formulation and fermentation, a stronger understanding of sustainable and circular economy principles, and an increased willingness to adopt environmentally friendly aquaculture practices. Moreover, follow-up mentoring groups were established to ensure program continuity and local innovation. This participatory model effectively combines community engagement with scientific evidence in aquaculture nutrition and is suitable for replication in other rural aquaculture development contexts.

Abstract

This training supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). The community service activity follows the UNJ Community Service Strategic Plan (PPM Renstra) 2021–2025, focusing on education and environmental initiatives. A needs analysis conducted at SMAN 1 Muara Gembong, particularly in the school canteen, revealed that many food items sold lacked attention to health and hygiene, and did not optimize local food products. Based on this, training on personal hygiene education for the school community is needed to support school entrepreneurship programs. The training uses a practical approach integrated with digital technology through poster creation. Results showed that participants increased their awareness of health and hygiene, which improved the quality of their entrepreneurial products. The training included material on personal hygiene in entrepreneurship, with educational posters as the output. Evaluation was done using questionnaires, with data analyzed descriptively. Expected outcomes include the publication of an article, mass media exposure, YouTube video, partnership recognition, intellectual property rights registration, educational posters, and a profile of personal hygiene education for the school community in canteen management.

Abstract

The program “Youth Empowerment in Developing UMKM Assets through a Basic Business Management Workshop in Balung Lor Village” aims to address the low involvement of youth in the village’s micro-business sector, which is currently dominated by elderly entrepreneurs. This community service initiative applies the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach using observation, interviews, focus group discussions, and community asset mapping. The theoretical framework of asset-based empowerment positions youth as a crucial human asset for economic regeneration. The discussion highlights entrepreneurial mindset building, basic business literacy, digital marketing skills, and youth creativity in generating new economic initiatives. The results show significant improvement in youth understanding of production costing, capital management, business planning, and social media-based promotion. In conclusion, the ABCD approach effectively enhances youth participation in local economic development, strengthens UMKM sustainability, and lays a solid foundation for creating a future generation of adaptive and innovative village entrepreneurs.
