Abstract

This community service aims to improve the numeracy skills of elementary school students in Marendal Village through contextual mathematics-based training. The methods used in this program are lectures, discussions, and practice questions based on everyday problems. The evaluation results show an increase in students' understanding of basic mathematical concepts and an increase in their learning motivation. This activity is expected to be a model for numeracy literacy improvement programs in other areas.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students' learning outcomes in Natural Science (IPA) through the demonstration method in fourth-grade students at SD Inpres Teas, Noebeba District, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency. The research was motivated by low science learning outcomes, with 60% of students failing to meet the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM) of 70. Conventional teaching methods contributed to students' passivity and lack of engagement. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) follows the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles with four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study involved 10 fourth-grade students, with data collected through learning outcome tests, observations, and teacher interviews. Descriptive quantitative analysis compared student performance before and after intervention. Results indicated that the demonstration method effectively improved science learning outcomes. Initially, students scored an average of 73.5, with a mastery rate of 40%. After applying the demonstration method in cycle I, the average increased to 84.1, with 70% mastery. In cycle II, refining teaching strategies led to an average score of 90.1, with 90% mastery. The method also enhanced student engagement, teamwork, and conceptual understanding. These findings suggest that the demonstration method is an effective strategy for improving science learning outcomes. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate demonstrations regularly, and schools should provide necessary resources to optimize learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse and improve the efficiency of waiting lines in government institutions by identifying the reasons for the length of these lines, using modern technology, overcoming obstacles, and evaluating the impact of improvements on beneficiary satisfaction and service quality. The study is based on the descriptive analytical approach, and is based on a sample of 300 employees and customers. The results showed that improving the efficiency of waiting lines enhances beneficiary satisfaction and increases the efficiency of the institution by reducing waiting times and relieving pressure on beneficiaries, while lack of resources and ineffective technology hinder the implementation of effective management strategies. Based on these results, the study recommends increasing the number of employees, improving the technical infrastructure, adopting modern technology such as electronic reservation and electronic payment systems, enhancing training and awareness for employees, in addition to establishing an effective system for monitoring and evaluating performance to improve the efficiency of waiting lines and the quality of services provided.

Abstract

Understanding fraction concepts remains one of the biggest challenges in elementary mathematics education. Many students struggle with grasping fundamental fraction concepts, performing calculations, and applying them in problem-solving contexts. This study aims to analyze various factors contributing to students' difficulties in understanding fractions using a systematic approach Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data were collected from relevant scholarly articles published between 2020 and 2025. The findings indicate that the primary difficulties students face in understanding fractions stem from a lack of conceptual comprehension, weak operational skills, and challenges in converting word problems into mathematical models. Additionally, low learning motivation and limited teaching method variations also contribute to students' struggles with fraction concepts.

Abstract

Math phobia is a psychological disorder characterized by excessive fear of mathematical concepts or activities, which hinders students' learning process. This study aims to explore the use of the abacus method as an intervention in improving mental arithmetic and reducing math phobia in elementary school students. The abacus method, which has been proven effective in improving concentration and mental arithmetic skills, is integrated into learning to provide an interactive and fun learning experience. This study used a descriptive qualitative method involving 15 students and the third grade teacher of SDN 19 Tarung-Tarung, and used data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles & Huberman research model. The results showed a significant increase in mental arithmetic skills and a decrease in students' anxiety levels in math subjects, which had a positive impact on students' learning motivation. The application of the abacus method can be an alternative strategy in designing more effective mathematics learning interventions to overcome math phobia.

Abstract

Understanding geometric concepts is an essential part of the mathematics learning process in elementary school. However, many fifth-grade students face challenges in grasping these concepts due to monotonous and less interactive learning media. These difficulties contribute to students' low comprehension of geometric concepts. The purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of interactive media in strengthening students' understanding of geometric concepts in elementary school. The research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation. The findings reveal that less interactive teaching methods, the lack of concrete learning media, and an unconducive learning environment are the main factors hindering students' understanding. Increasing student participation and facilitating their comprehension of geometric concepts can be achieved by implementing interactive media such as digital simulations, animated videos, and educational games. Thus, interactive media can enhance students' learning motivation and create a more enjoyable learning atmosphere. By integrating interactive media into the mathematics learning process, students are expected to become more actively engaged, focused, and able to understand geometric concepts more effectively.

Abstract

This study explores strategies to address students' difficulties in understanding and solving mathematical word problems involving long division in elementary schools. These difficulties can stem from internal factors, such as a lack of conceptual understanding, low motivation, and inaccuracy in solving problems, as well as external factors, such as ineffective teaching methods and minimal use of instructional media. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research examines previous studies that discuss the causes of learning difficulties and possible solutions. The findings indicate that a contextual approach based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and the use of concrete teaching aids can significantly enhance students' comprehension of long division. This approach helps students connect learning with real-life experiences and visualize mathematical concepts more clearly. Therefore, innovative instructional strategies are essential to improve elementary school students' understanding and numerical skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using instructional media in enhancing the understanding of multiplication concepts in elementary schools. The research employs a library research method. The findings indicate that the use of instructional media in teaching multiplication in elementary schools is significantly more effective compared to conventional methods without media. Media such as Powtoon, PAKALILO (Papan Perkalian Kelinci Lompat), Papan BAPER (Batang Perkalian), and multiplication pockets based on the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach significantly improve students' understanding of multiplication concepts.

Abstract

This study explores the application of the normal distribution in analyzing the height data of Mathematics Education students at FMIPA Universitas Negeri Medan in 2024. Employing a quantitative descriptive-analytic methodology, the research involved collecting primary data from 10 randomly selected students through a questionnaire-based survey. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed a mean height of 161.4 cm with a standard deviation of 8.79 cm. The median height was found to be 164 cm, while the mode was 150 cm, indicating a slightly skewed distribution. To assess the suitability of the normal distribution model, the Shapiro-Wilk test was applied, resulting in a W value of 0.921 and a p-value of 0.361, which exceeds the 0.05 significance level. This confirms that the sample data follow a normal distribution pattern. The findings were further supported through visual representation using histograms and analysis based on the empirical rule, which showed that approximately 68% of the students' heights fall within one standard deviation of the mean (152.81–169.99 cm). Additionally, probability calculations demonstrated that the likelihood of a student being 160 cm tall or shorter is approximately 43.64%. These results validate the effectiveness of the normal distribution as a tool for analyzing biological or physical characteristics, even in small sample sizes. However, the study acknowledges its limitation in terms of sample size and suggests that future research involve larger and more diverse populations to enhance generalizability. The study highlights the relevance of normal distribution in statistical modeling, particularly for educational and health-related data interpretation and decision-making processes.
