Abstract

Procrastination is basically putting off starting or finishing things that really need to get done. This study looks at how students at an Islamic boarding school procrastinate with memorizing the Quran and doing schoolwork, what factors are connected to this behavior, and how it’s handled through one-on-one counseling. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study of a female student. Information came from chatting with her and observing during two counseling sessions. The first session used Motivational Interviewing (MI) to dig into why she was procrastinating, what goals she wanted to reach, and her readiness to change, and the second session used a behavioral approach, involving setting goals and giving herself rewards. The case study results show that procrastination is related to feelings of inferiority when seeing friends who have memorized more, as well as feeling neglected by the ustadzah. Support and appreciation from the environment also help boost the motivation to start activities. After some handling, changes started to appear in Quran memorization activities; students who used to procrastinate began to open and start their memorization at night after Isha prayer. These changes are still just the initial steps and need to be followed up to see if they remain consistent.

Abstract

The low interest in reading at the elementary school level is a crucial challenge in national literacy. This research aims to describe teacher strategies in fostering reading interest in fourth-grade students at SDI Laran. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana models which include data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that teacher strategies included the habit of 15 minutes of reading before teaching and learning activities, management of a conducive classroom reading corner, use of illustrated storybooks, individual reading guidance, and providing motivation/rewards. Supporting factors include the principal's commitment, allocation of School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds for literacy, and the School Literacy Movement (GLS) program. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited variety of book collections, the negative influence of gadgets, and the lack of support from the family environment. The implementation of this strategy has been proven to significantly increase student enthusiasm from 5 to 18 students who are active in independent literacy activities.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of Grade II students at SDK Manumuti to write simple sentences in the Indonesian Language subject. The primary issue was indicated by students' difficulties in constructing words and arranging simple sentences according to proper grammar and spelling rules. This study aimed to improve students' ability to write simple sentences through the application of picture story cards. The methodology employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis & McTaggart model, conducted across two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were 28 Grade II students of SDK Manumuti (13 male and 15 female students). Data were collected through observation, achievement tests, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students' simple sentence writing skills. The average score increased from 68.75 in Cycle I to 77.57 in Cycle II. The classical learning completeness rate also rose substantially from 64.28% (18 students completed) in Cycle I to 93.00% (26 students completed) in Cycle II, thereby exceeding the target success indicator (≥75%). The use of picture story cards proved effective in boosting student engagement, enthusiasm, and skill in translating visual ideas into structured written sentences.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that some students still showed a lack of discipline in complying with school regulations and classroom rules, including arriving late, paying insufficient attention during lessons, and failing to complete assignments on time. These conditions indicate the need for teachers to implement appropriate strategies to develop student discipline. One strategy that can be applied is positive reinforcement, which encourages students to repeat positive behaviors. This study aimed to describe teachers’ efforts in instilling discipline through positive reinforcement among fifth-grade students at SDK Betun I. The study employed a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of the fifth-grade teacher and fifth-grade students of SDK Betun I. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings showed that teachers implemented positive reinforcement through verbal praise, rewards, motivation, smiles, and applause. The implementation of positive reinforcement positively influenced students’ discipline, as reflected in increased compliance with classroom rules, punctuality, responsibility in completing assignments, and active participation in learning. It can therefore be concluded that consistent positive reinforcement effectively supports the development of disciplined behavior both inside and outside the classroom.
