Abstract

Reading interest plays a crucial role in students' cognitive development and academic achievement. However, the low access to interesting reading materials and the lack of library facilities are the main obstacles in improving the literacy of elementary school students. This study aims to identify the impact of educational-based library revitalization on increasing students' interest in reading at SDN Sukolilo 01. The method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with a spiral approach from Kemmis and Taggart, which includes planning, action, observation and reflection. The implementation of the creative library program included library rearrangement, interactive reading, and literacy activities. The results showed a significant increase in library visits, book borrowing and student participation in literacy activities. The main obstacles faced were the limited book collection and students' low interest in non-fiction books. Therefore, there is a need for collection enrichment and innovative strategies to sustain the reading culture in the long term. This study contributes to providing recommendations for schools in creating a more interactive and sustainable literacy environment.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative descriptive study with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out in two ways, quantitative data was analyzed by non-parametric statistics and qualitative data was classified through coding. The population and sample of this study were all 12 teachers. The results showed that (1) all teachers at SDN Kepanjen 01 Kepanjen District, Malang Regency carried out WFH according to the Government Circular Letter, namely the learning planning stage: using it for making lesson plans and discussing with fellow teachers; stages of the learning process: using google forms and WA for student attendance, zoom for delivering material, WA for giving and collecting assignments, youtube and the web for learning media; and the learning evaluation stage: using google forms for PH or PTS and gadgets to correct student evaluation results. (2) The implementation of WFH at SDN Kepanjen 01 encountered various obstacles. (3) Obstacles during WFH are categorized into obstacles in gadgets, internet, material understanding, finance, communication, and level of focus. (4) The solution to the problems experienced is adjusted to the situation and condition of teachers and students' families at SDN Kepanjen 01 so that WFH and BDR can still run optimally. (5) WFH has a positive impact, namely creating a feeling of security because it avoids the spread of covid-19, has more free time, is free to determine work schedules, and automatically reduces transportation costs. While the negative impact is that teachers experience boredom, reduced interaction with colleagues, lowers the quality of performance results, and is addicted to social media. The researcher's suggestions for teachers are that teachers should (1) implement whatever policies have been set by the Principal with full responsibility and enthusiasm; (2) discuss all the obstacles that arise during WFH with the Principal and fellow teachers in order to obtain the most appropriate solution; (3) always teach students to apply health protocols at home; and (4) although WFH has a negative impact, teachers must be able to overcome it in various ways so as not to affect the quality of learning for students.

Abstract

This study examines code-switching practices in Asian professional workplaces, with a specific focus on its linguistic and cultural dimensions. Through a multidisciplinary theoretical framework incorporating Communication Accommodation Theory and Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions, the research investigates how professionals strategically employ code-switching to foster workplace inclusivity, manage hierarchical relationships, and adapt to industry-specific communication demands. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, collecting data through semi-structured interviews with 50 professionals, online surveys (n=200), and 100 hours of workplace observations across various Asian business settings. Results indicate that code-switching serves multiple functions: enhancing communication clarity (87% of respondents), reflecting and reinforcing cultural norms (73%), and mitigating power imbalances in hierarchical structures (65%). The findings underscore code-switching's strategic role in navigating multicultural professional environments, offering practical insights into effective cross-cultural communication strategies and fostering of cohesive professional interactions in Asian workplaces. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on linguistic adaptation in professional contexts and provides practical implications for managing multilingual workplaces in Asia.
