Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a health problem throughout the world, and its prevalence continues to increase every year. Diabetes mellitus is often not realized by diabetics because it does not produce typical symptoms in the early period. Diabetes is a non-communicable disease (NCD) because of 80% unhealthy behavior. The problem in this research is that the diabetes risk group cannot yet carry out independent early detection of diabetes; they are not aware of their health conditions related to the incidence of DM, so they have not made efforts to change behavior to prevent diabetes mellitus and reduce risk factors that can be changed. This research aimed to determine the effect of early self-detection of diabetes mellitus on the health behavior of DM risk groups based on the Health Belief Model (HBM). This quantitative research used a quasi-experiment design with a one-group pre-post-test approach. The sample was 100 respondents by purposive sampling. The data collection used questionnaires based on HBM. The research intervention was by teaching the use of the SEDAB application and educating on healthy behavior to prevent DM; the interval between intervention and post-test was 4 weeks. Analysis of research data uses the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The research results show that the intervention has the effect of increasing perceived susceptibility (p-value=0.000), Perceived Severity (p-value=0.000), Perceived Barriers (p-value=0.000), Perceived Benefit Perceived (p-value=0.000), cues to action (p-value=0.017), Self-efficacy (p-value=0.000), and healthy behavior (p-value=0.000). Early detection of diabetes in diabetes risk groups is essential to prevent DM and improve healthier lifestyles.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that contributes significantly to the global health burden, with a rising prevalence globally. Understanding nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) is crucial because knowledge provides essential insights into how diet affects blood glucose levels, a positive attitude encourages support for patient adherence, and efficient practices ensure the consistent application of dietary management strategies. This study aimed to assess the KAP among nurses about the nutritional management of Diabetes. This descriptive study involved 100 nurses working in medical and surgical wards of a hospital, with 99 respondents included in the analysis following the dropping out of one respondent. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire designed to evaluate the KAP of nurses concerning diabetes nutritional management. The study found disparities in the levels of knowledge among nurses: 14.1% demonstrated high knowledge, 49.5% demonstrated intermediate knowledge, and 36.4% demonstrated poor knowledge. Despite these variations, none demonstrated a bad attitude, a lousy 11.1% demonstrated an intermediate attitude, and the majority of nurses (88.9%) exhibited high attitudes towards Diabetes nutritional management. Additionally, 0% engaged in harmful practices, 4% demonstrated intermediate practices, and nearly all respondents (96%) reported engaging in good practices. These results underscore the need for targeted educational interventions to bridge knowledge gaps. Enhancing nurses' knowledge in Diabetes nutritional management is essential to improve the quality of care and health outcomes for patients with Diabetes.

Abstract

Fitness for children is related to optimal physical condition. Fitness influences mental and social development, especially children's concentration and learning abilities. Fitness must be maintained to support activities. Diet is a supporting factor for children's physical fitness. Diet is the foundation for long-term health. The research aimed to determine factors related to eating patterns that influence children's physical fitness. The research design was cross-sectional. The research population was school children aged 10-12 years totaling 96 students in 2023 using the total sampling method. The independent variables were BMI (Body Massa Index), physical activity, and rest, and the dependent variable was the child's physical fitness. The instrument used the Physical Activity Questionnaire to measure activity, eating patterns using Food Frequency, rest using The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and physical fitness, calculated using the Technical Guidelines for Health Screening and Periodic Examination of School-Age Children and Adolescents in 2018. The analysis test used linear regression (P<0.05) to determine the relationship between factors related to eating patterns and influencing children's physical fitness. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship between BMI (p 0.661), physical activity (0.783), and rest (p 0.756) on eating patterns. An eating pattern is a significant mediator for physical activity and rest but not for BMI (p 0.733) on children's physical fitness. Rest (p 0.000) and physical activity (p 0.004) influence children's physical fitness. BMI does not measure the position and location of fat, so people with the same BMI have different fitness levels.

Abstract

The contraceptive injection method using medroxyprogesterone (a type of progestin) which is injected every 3 months has side effects, namely menstrual cycle disorders. The longer the injection is used, the more women do not menstruate and also experience irregular bleeding. This was a descriptive study that aimed to see the menstrual disorders of 3-month contraceptive injection acceptors at the Binangun Midwife Independent Practice, Blitar Regency. The population in this study were active contraceptive injection acceptors who visited the Binangun Midwife Independent Practice, Blitar Regency, with an average population of 87 people. The sample in this study was 3-month contraceptive injection acceptors who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of samples in this study was 66 people with a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis used frequency distribution to describe menstrual disorders experienced by 3-months Contraceptive Injection acceptors. The results of this study indicated that the menstrual disorders experienced by 3-months contraceptive injection acceptors were mostly amenorrhea, namely 53 people (80.3%). While bleeding outside of menstruation was 10 people (15.2%) and the rest, namely 3 people (4.5%) did not experience menstrual disorders. The 3-months contraceptive injection method has been proven effective in preventing pregnancy, the therapy needs to pay attention to the side effects caused so as not to interfere with the 3-months Contraceptive Injection acceptors.

Abstract

One of the most common diseases causing death in women is mammary carcinoma which is the third largest cause of death in Indonesia after heart disease and stroke. Chemotherapy and surgery are treatment methods that have been widely used. The body image of patients who have undergone mastectomy will change as they no longer have breasts. The purpose of this study was to determine how coping mechanisms were used in patients suffering from carcinoma mammae post-mastectomy. This study used a qualitative-quantitative research design. The data was obtained through semi-structured interview guides and coping mechanism questionnaires as support. The data validity test method used triangulation of sources and methods. The data analysis in the study used domain analysis. The researcher analyzed the data using domain analysis and found seven main themes emotional distress when first diagnosed with Ca mammae, body image disturbance after mastectomy, breast loss after mastectomy, the use of active coping in seeking recovery, use of healthy lifestyle planning to reduce disease risk, use of religious coping mechanisms for illness perception, use of acceptance coping mechanism in illness. Some psychosocial problems such as mental emotional disorders such as severe stress, fear, and worry about the disease are often felt by patients. However, participants use adaptive coping mechanisms to adapt to psychosocial problems through the use of active coping, religion, planning, and being able to accept deficiencies in their body image.

Abstract

Stunting is a child growth disorder characterized by a child's lack of height compared to children his age. Morbidity and mortality rates, decreased growth, learning achievement, increased risk of infectious and non-communicable diseases, and decreased productivity are all effects of stunting. This research aimed to find predisposing factors that contribute to stunting preventing behaviors. This research focused on the working area of Sidomulyo Inpatient Health Center. The research design was cross-sectional, with 95 mother subjects. The measurement used a questionnaire. Research results from bivariate analysis using chi square analysis showed that there was a correlation between age (p-value 0.022), occupation (p-value 0.024), education (p-value 0.000), and knowledge (p-value 0.015) with the level of stunting. It is recommended to the community and families who will have children under five that the mother's age, occupation, education and knowledge influence their behavior in preventing stunting. Health workers can provide counseling or education about predisposing factors related to stunting prevention behavior to their patients.

Abstract

Cataracts are the main cause of blindness throughout the world which can actually be prevented. Lack of knowledge, increased anxiety and lack of self-resilience in cataract patients cause patients to be afraid to seek treatment from health services. The research design used Quasi Experimental Pre-Post Test with One Group Design. The sample in this research was 42 cataract patients. The instrument for this research was the Knowledge, Anxiety and Self-Resilience Questionnaire. Data analysis in this research used the Wilcoxon Test statistical test. The results of the Wilcoxon Test of knowledge in the experimental group showed that Sig. equal to 0.000 or <0.05 (error level), meant that there was a difference in knowledge results before and after treatment. Meanwhile, the results of the Wilcoxon test for anxiety in the experimental group showed that Sig. equal to 0.008 or <0.05 (error level), it could be concluded that there was a difference in anxiety results before and after treatment. And the results of the Wilcoxon Test of self-reliance in the experimental group showed that Sig. equal to 0.000 or <0.05 (error level), meant that there was a difference in the results of self-resilience before and after being given treatment. Video-based Educational Demonstration Of Eye Exercises is effective for increasing knowledge, reducing anxiety and increasing self-resilience in cataract patients. Health workers can increase knowledge about cataracts and non-pharmacological therapy independently to increase personal resilience and reduce anxiety in cataract patients, as an effort to improve optimal health services.

Abstract

It is not yet known precisely which targets and forms of health education can be used in handling stunting both on a national and global scale. This gap requires study to find an effective and efficient solution. This research aimed to examine the target and whether complementary therapy methods, health education, are appropriate in preventing stunting. This research used quantitative methods with an experimental design. Carried out in Gogagoman Village, subdistrict of Kotamubagu Barat of Bolmong Raya, North Sulawesi. The population was 76 teenagers, and the sample was 50. The instrument used a questionnaire distributed online. The inclusion criteria was teenagers who lived in Bolmong Raya. The exclusion criteria was teenagers who lived outside Bolmong Raya. Primary data was from the questionnaires, pre and post-tests. The secondary data came from reputable journals. The training participants were divided into two groups, 25 people in the treatment group and 25 people in the control group. Data analysis used SPPS by conducting a paired t-test. The average knowledge value of 25 respondents in the control group after participating in the training increased by 16%. The treatment group was an increase of 7.3%. This complementary therapy training, play major role in preventing and overcoming stunting with a p-value (0.001 and 0.034) < 0.05, which means there is a significant difference between before and after training. It is recommended that complementary therapy and health education programs targeting teenagers in Bolmong Raya, North Sulawesi, be implemented as an effective strategy for preventing and addressing stunting.
