Abstract

Makeup Artist is a profession that requires skill. The ability to apply makeup can be obtained through formal, non-formal, or informal education. A Makeup Artist must not only have the ability to apply makeup to clients but also to identify their skin conditions, which will affect the treatment that should be applied to each different skin condition. The purpose of this research is to analyze the ability of Makeup Artists with formal (university), non-formal, and informal education backgrounds to identify skin types. The research subjects were people who worked as Makeup Artists in Semarang with a minimum of 1 year of experience. Data collection techniques used in this research were interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. The research findings showed that out of the 45 MakeUp Artists with formal, nonformal, and informal education, the dominant level category was at the moderate level, with an average percentage above 60%. This indicates that the MakeUp Artists have fairly good abilities and are capable of identifying various skin conditions effectively. However, upon closer examination, there is a slight imbalance between the low and high levels. The analysis results demonstrated that MakeUp Artists with formal education have better theoretical, attitudinal, and practical skills in applying makeup for clients with different skin conditions. Informal education excelled in the affective and psychomotor skills. On the other hand, nonformal education showed significantly low percentages in both the affective and psychomotor abilities.

Abstract

Facial skincare has become an integral part of the daily routine for many individuals, especially among women, to maintain the health and beauty of their skin. As time progresses, skincare products have become increasingly diverse, with various options claiming to address different skin concerns. However, many consumers face difficulty in choosing the right products, particularly because facial skin problems are highly varied. Therefore, this article aims to help the public better understand facial skin issues in more detail, enabling them to choose skincare products that are more suitable and aligned with their skin’s needs, which in turn will improve overall skin health. The research method used in this study is a literature review, analyzing various scientific articles related to the identification of skin types and the selection of skincare products. Consumers' decisions in choosing skincare products are greatly influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors, such as skin type and condition, play a key role in determining the right products, while external factors such as price, brand, packaging, and recommendations from others also play a significant role. Thus, despite the substantial benefits provided by technology, consumers still need to be wise in utilizing available information to avoid making incorrect decisions.

Abstract

Cosmetic products contain various ingredients that may potentially cause skin irritation, especially in individuals with sensitive or acne-prone skin. One of the natural ingredients commonly used is aloe vera, which is rich in components such as vitamin A and vitamin C. These vitamins provide benefits for maintaining moisture in dry skin, preventing premature aging, and supporting facial care for acne-prone skin. This research aims to review the effects of aloe vera on acne-prone skin and identify the active components found in aloe vera. The chosen method aims to gain a deep understanding of the issues, theories, and findings from previous studies. The process begins with identifying the problem and research objectives, which serve as the foundation for determining the main focus and sub-themes to be studied. Its anti-inflammatory properties are highly beneficial in reducing inflammation in the body, whether on the skin or internal tissues. This makes aloe vera effective for treating wounds, skin irritation, and inflammation caused by infections or allergies. Its ability to reduce inflammation also makes it a good option for addressing various skin issues, such as acne or dermatitis. Aloe vera aids in the regeneration of cells, accelerates skin healing, and maintains skin moisture. With all its benefits, aloe vera is a highly valuable raw material in both the medical and beauty fields. Findings indicate that aloe vera-based skincare products can be an effective and safe alternative for treating acne-prone skin, with active components supporting the reduction of inflammation and bacteria.

Abstract

Abstract The use of natural ingredients in cosmetics has become a global trend as public awareness of the importance of environmentally friendly and health-safe products increases. In Indonesia, with its rich biodiversity, traditional cosmetics made from natural ingredients such as aloe vera, turmeric, honey, coconut oil, and bengkuang have strong cultural roots and promising market potential. These ingredients are known for their benefits in skin and body care and minimal side effects. However, challenges remain, including safety risks due to the lack of standard testing, quality variations, and non-compliance with regulations. This study reviews the benefits, safety, and regulations related to the use of natural ingredients in cosmetics. Although natural cosmetics offer a healthier alternative compared to synthetic products, attention to safety testing, product stability, and information transparency is very important. Regulation by supervisory bodies such as BPOM is key to ensuring the quality and safety of traditional cosmetic products. With the right scientific approach and adherence to global standards, natural ingredients in cosmetics can contribute to sustainable product innovation, support the preservation of local culture, and enhance competitiveness in the international market.   Keywords: Natural ingredients, traditional cosmetics, cosmetic safety, preservation of local culture
