Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve student’ ability in learning English by using the snake and ladder game method. This research was conducted through Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this study were a group of 16 students of class VII A MTs Mambaul Ulum in the 2021/2022 academic years. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students’ ability in class in using the game of snake and ladder in simple present tense English Grammar. This research was conducted in three test consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data were collected using quantitative data. The result of this study indicate that there is an increase in students’ ability to learn English by using the snake and ladder game method. The mean value of the Initial pre-test was 57.91. The average value of the Cycle 1 pre-test was 68.75, while the Cycle 2 post-test average was 77.29. The percentage of students on the result of the Initial pre-test who scored 70 or more was 3 students. The percentage of students on the result of the Cycle 1 pre-test who scored 70 or more was 8 students. Meanwhile, the percentage of students on the Cycle 2 post-test result who scored 70 or above was 1 students. In other word, students’ ability to master grammar is very good at the first meeting until the next meeting.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the difficulties faced by students in understanding English dialogue and the factors that influence it. In the context of language learning, listening skills have a crucial role because they affect students' ability to speak and interact. Qualitative descriptive methods are used to explain these phenomena, by collecting data through questionnaires to analyze students' answers. The results of the study showed that 84.3% of students experienced major difficulties in identifying the content of the message. Lack of vocabulary mastery, inability to guess words in the recording, and the length of the message conveyed are the main factors. In addition, 71.8% of students had difficulties with speakers. Some of the problems encountered include the inability to listen without pictures or videos, the speaker's speaking speed being too high, and the variety of accents in the recording. From these results, it can be concluded that good listening skills are an important foundation in language learning. Therefore, there is a need for a learning strategy that is more focused on vocabulary development and understanding of various accents in the context of dialogue. This can help improve students' knowledge and respond to English conversations more effectively. The conclusion can be the basis for developing a more effective learning program in improving students' listening skills.

Abstract

The main objective of this research was to find out whether using the Story System can improve students’ vocabulary in the tenth grade of SMA Ar-Rahim Pontianak. This research used a pre-experimental design with 160 students of SMA Ar-Rahim Pontianak. This research used 31 students as a sample a random sampling technique and used multiple choice and essay as the instruments of research. The result showed the score on – the test 62.83 was higher than the mean score on the – test 39.48 and the t-test value was greater than the–table (17.55 > 2.042) It means that the Story System is one of a good technique in teaching vocabulary because it is prove using story system was effective to improve students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

This study, conducted by Siti Nabela in 2023, investigates the effectiveness of using flashcards to improve vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Ambawang Kubu Raya. The students faced challenges learning English vocabulary and differentiating grammatical forms such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. To address these issues, flashcards were implemented as a personal dictionary tool to enhance vocabulary learning, aiming to make students more active, motivated, and engaged in English classes. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, involving class VII A during the 2022/2023 academic year. Data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and tests across two cycles. The results indicated significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery, with mean scores increasing from 45.70 in the pre-test to 70.52 in the first cycle post-test, and 80.13 in the second cycle post-test. The study concludes that flashcards effectively enhance students' vocabulary mastery, as evidenced by the rising test scores.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of background music in improving students' learning concentration through a literature review study. The results of previous studies show that background music can improve concentration. The first article used the Pretest Posttest Control Group Design method and found a significant difference with a calculated t value (3.100) greater than the t table (2.145). The fourth article used Quasi Experimental and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, showing a significant difference (p = 0.000). The seventh article, using qualitative methods, reported 83.3% of students agreed that music helps focus. However, the eighth article noted background music can improve mood but also increase cognitive load. In conclusion, background music, especially slow-tempo and instrumental, is effective in improving study concentration. Variations in effectiveness are due to music preference and learning context. Students and educators are advised to use background music that suits individual needs.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the development of cultural literacy at the Bali Museum for junior high school students in Denpasar City through a storytelling competition with the theme "Men Brayut". The methods of interview, observation, and literature study were used in this research. The data obtained in the field and literature sources that are in accordance with the problem are then described and interpreted qualitatively. The results of this study found that the implementation of the storytelling competition is one of the efforts of the Bali Museum manager which is quite significant in developing cultural literacy, especially for junior high school students in Denpasar City, through the assessment indicators set by the jury. The concept of the activity and the selection of themes are adjusted by telling the historical relics that are a collection at the Bali Museum, one of which is the relic of the statue "Men Brayut" in 2023.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic outbreak has brought major changes to various aspects of life, including the education sector. One of the most significant impacts is the change in the learning process, which was initially carried out face-to-face and then turned into online, which can be done at home through distance learning (PJJ). This change not only has implications for the learning process but also for methods, technology and the role of stakeholders. Learners and educators must adapt to the new system to overcome the barriers and challenges that arise. This study aims to determine the challenges and obstacles in the implementation of distance learning (PJJ) at Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar Elementary School (SD) during the Covid-19 pandemic. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observations, and literature studies relevant to the problem and then described and interpreted thoroughly using a qualitative research paradigm. The results showed that there are obstacles and challenges in the implementation of distance learning (PJJ) for students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar, namely adjusting learning methods with the use of technology and understanding learning materials. The efforts made to minimize this are with the active role between students, parents, and teachers or educators.
