Abstract

This study aims to find out the character formation strategy of students of the Department of Office Administration of the Makassar National Vocational School. Character formation in the Vocational High School (SMK) environment is very important, especially in preparing students to not only have technical skills but also strong moral and social values. Characters such as discipline, responsibility, and cooperation are the main foundations in dealing with the world of work and community life in general. In the world of vocational education, character formation often receives less attention than the mastery of technical skills, even though the two should be balanced. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants consist of educators, students, and school management. The data was analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana and combined with SWOT analysis to formulate a character-strengthening strategy. The results showed that most students demonstrated good responsibility, discipline, and cooperation, although there were still several challenges such as low intrinsic motivation, the influence of the outside environment, and inconsistencies in the application of character values. The strategies implemented by the school include an exemplary teacher approach, project-based learning, extracurricular activities, and strengthening the role of parents and BK teachers. The recommendations from these results emphasize the importance of implementing holistic learning methods, strengthening a positive school climate, and increasing the capacity of educators in guiding students' character. Character building is not an instant process but requires continuity, for example, and synergy between schools, families, and communities. With the right strategy, vocational school students are expected to be not only technically competent but also ethically and socially superior. This study offers a distinct contribution to the existing literature by highlighting how character-building strategies in vocational schools operate through a combination of classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and teacher modeling.

Abstract

Learning motivation is critical for students because it can improve student learning activities such as having a passion for learning, participating in active learning activities, and achieving optimal learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of learning motivation on the learning activities of grade XI students at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar. Learning motivation is an important factor that influences the quality and quantity of student involvement in the learning process. This study uses a quantitative approach; this study involved 63 grade XI students as research samples selected through proportional random sampling techniques. Data was collected through a questionnaire consisting of two main parts: learning motivation and learning activities. The results indicated that the indicators for each variable revealed learning motivation to be in the low category, whereas student learning activities were categorized as high. The indicators of learning motivation were intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Indicators of learning activities were viewing activities, oral activities, and listening activities. Based on a simple linear regression analysis, it was concluded that there was a significant influence between learning motivation and student learning activities at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar.

Abstract

This study analyzes the correlation between classroom management and students’ learning outcomes in the Department of Office Management and Business Services at SMK Negeri 4 Makassar. A quantitative associative approach was employed with 63 respondents selected from a population of 75 students. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression. The results show that classroom management and learning outcomes are categorized as satisfactory and high, respectively. The correlation coefficient (r = 0.278) indicates a positive but low correlation, with a determination value (R² = 0.077) meaning that classroom management explains only 7.7% of the variation in learning outcomes. Although the effect size is relatively small, the relationship is statistically significant (p < 0.05), suggesting that well-organized classroom environments contribute to better academic achievement. This study highlights that other factors beyond classroom management also influence learning outcomes. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on classroom management within vocational education, which differs from regular schools due to its applied learning orientation and discipline-based environment. The findings contribute to understanding how classroom organization supports effective learning in vocational settings.
